Succession game - The glorious Persians

Malys Faisent,

Well hopefully be the time you are back Persia will be nice and strong :p

:crazyeyes Despite being a whip manaic, Susa in particular, Persia is still hurting for military. 20 years and I got one spearman for each city. Most of the Immortals are at least toward the front line.

A pity no great leader from Babylon war. Persian production sucks, and we could really use forbidden Palace in Babylon.

I don't know when it will be safe to leave depostism. We just don't have the infastructure yet. Whip is must much powerfull that a few bucks for production. We want cultural border locks, and maybe a flip of the junk behind our lines.

SkidiWili raises (again) to power! People run away in terror, but in vain. The reign of Whip&Carrot begins!

290AD -The Carrot&Whip development strategy is started. Little whipping and the people can enjoy the culture of temples and libraries and luxuries of marketplaces.
300AD -Invented feudalism, and started to move towards chivalry. Few enemy civilizations started to build Sun Tzu's Art of War immediatly even without me trading the tech. Weird.
310AD -Germans build a city to the south to a small patch of land.
320-380AD -Whips&Carrots, lots of temples, libraries, courthouses and marketplaces built with little help of whip.
390AD - A realization: They fear us. Every other civ fear us. I can always demand them to leave our territority, because they won't say a word against it. Maybe with some diplomatic persuation we could ally most, or at least the Zulu, against the German? I don't think we should fight them alone. We could, but it would take too much of our resources.
410AD - Bought theology from the Chinese. Started to build Sistine Chapel in Persepolis, but I'm afraid that we won't make it in time.
420AD - The top dome of the palace is finished.
430AD - A new source of iron appeared to our lands. It's next to Susa.
440AD - Chivalry has been invented, started to move towards education.

While visiting Pasargadea SkidiWili goes to swim at the river. With a sudden tidal wave he's washed all the way to the sea. People rejoice and select a new leader, before SkidiWili even has a change to return. No search for the former ruler is made.

Are we really going to build the Forbidden palace to Pasargadae, or is it just stockpiling shields for some wonder? I know that the normal palace is movable and so on. Also they might not fear us for long. Building some knights or other units might be good for maintaining the balance of terror we have over them. Conclusion of my turn: quite uneventful, but I think that the world is ready for something devasteting to happen.

I played 15 turns.

1 - Do we build the forbidden palace in Pasargrade? If so, we could the build a new palace and hopefully get a bigger production base. Our production sucks! This is what scares me about our position.

2 - TRADE those luxuries! Take anything you can get from France. We are hurting for cash. I wish more AI players would build harbors. We are one road segment from trading with Zululand. Build the road 2 squares east of Umtata and we can trade with them. Maybe there road net connect with other players.

3 - Switch suza Pikeman. We can whip a pikeman out every couple of turns. Susa will go UNHAPPY next turn, so crack the whip.

4 - We still need a larger army. I agree with Skidiwilli about knights.

5 - You call, but I wonder if we should build a city next to the grapes. Would secure them for all time.

:goodjob to Skidiwilli. Our military is somewhat stronger. Question - Why did you let the coliseum get built in Persolopis? I was trying to get a wonder jump.

The good news. #1 in the Histograph. Our culture rating is getting very strong. However, I suspect +79 a turn won't be enough for 100000 culture. We have sucked this game for getting wonders. Though I am not surprised. I had a bad feeling when I started this one. When war comes, Germany is the clear target. Zululand is in our culture group, and would probably ally with us.

a little question...... don't you find it hard not to crush your culture group for the sake of an empire that's close together?

Well, we did crush Babylon and they are part of our culture group. At this point of the game it looks like we are heading either towards a Diplomatic, Space Ship, or Cultural victory rather than trying to go for domination...so leaving the Zulus is a good decision, our empire is large enough to be unweildy after conquering Babylon no need to add further headaches.

Personally I think we should goto war with Germany, especially if we can swing a few AIs on our side...keep it going as long as it takes to get a Great Leader out of our Immortals, and keep the AIs busy fighting each other while our military is not up to snuff...but then I am being rather warmongerish (as I usually am playing the Persians!). Then we can switch to Monarchy and rush build the Forbidden...give it around 15~20 turns, long enough for the popular resentment against our earlier whipcracking fades (which we can compensate for with troops in Monarchy...) and then switch to either Democracy or Republic depending on which is available.

Domination is still possible. My biggest worry is our military strength. The war versus Babylon streched us to our limits. It took me 20 years just to clean up Babylon. After my follow up player, we finally have troops where they belong. Near our borders.

Cultural victory is possible. Only problem here is lack of wonders. :(

As for Monarchy / Republic - I don't know. The only source of good production I had was Susa and mass whip cracking. I don't know if our infastructure can support a higher goverment.

I like to keep at least one culture group member around. Zululand has made very good allies for me as Babylon (Persia in same group). Only reason I got my 20000 point super city.

A great leader :) No matter how we use it, always nice to have.

Hey I'm back, but won't finish the game til tomorrow around noon...looks good so far!

Please do NOT automate workers.

I found this is my Greek game. The automated workers are very stupid such as over mining mountains and hills that a city can not use. I plan to make this a ground rule in future games.

Okee..

1.) Susa changes to produce pikeman, as ordered. There is a civil disorder in susa!!
Arbela finished courthouse -> Pikeman
Ellipi finished courthouse -> pikeman
Akkad finished temple -> Barracks
Antioch finished Marketplace -> Pikeman
Uruk finished temple -> Library
Science -> 30% + 3 gold per turn

2.) People are invading with their settlers. Order restored in Susa. Umtata is overthrown and builds a temple

3.) More work is done

4.) Disorder in Susa...gives entertainment

5.)....

6.) India trades world map for world map

7.) more work

8.) Disorder in Arbela. Pikeman -> colliseum

9.) Disorder in Susa. Pikeman -> colliseum

10.) Izumo is built near our borders.
Tarsus builds immortal and starts colliseum

11.) Government goes into anarchy for 6 turns. Disorder everywhere

12.) Disorders fixed. Settlers are leaving our territory

13.) More work is done. Group of immortals in Umtata

14.) Disroder in Tarsus. Group of Immortals are waken and move to umtata

15.) ....

16.) Government - Monarchy....Sci - 30%
temple is hurried in umtata

17.) Umtata builds temple -> library

18.) we lost wines

19.)Forbidden Palace is finished!!!
Bombay finishes colossus
Science because of the palace is raised to 40%!!!
Antioch starts colliseum after building pikeman

20.) Education is discovered and starts Astronomy.

No worries about me automating workers...I'd rather just click the little skull on them instead...:satan:

Edit >>>

Looks like things are going well!

"Umtata is overthrown and builds a temple." :) One of the reasons I tend to not attack Zululand. They seem to love to culture flip to me.

Start working the hill with Susa. Way to much food, and to little production.

Perselopis - Switch to the hill one of the flood plains. Saves 5 turns on Sistine chappel. The number of times I have lost by one turn ...

Establish embassies!

Trade is finally allowed :) Sell some product. Maybe 50% science, and money for a larger military.

Only bad news - The civ attitudes toward us suck.

I wonder if we are light on workers?

Up next - Belisarius

I think we should plan on War with Germany. Move our units near Zululand north toward the German border.

When the war starts :confused:

Zululand is the least likely one to start war. We keep our troops there?

Yes the Germans look the likeliest target but I think we need some Knights to prepare the ground for our Immortals since they have the Great Wall. It would also be good if we can get another civ to join us in attacking the Germans.

Belisarius, glad to see you are still here. You moves are due.

I agree, I don't know WHEN the war with Germany starts. You are right, we need some knights. It is only the planning stages for know, but we should have a game plan. My first goals, shift most of the troops away from Zululand borders. Outside of the one unit making sure somebody doesn't build next to our ONLY wine source.

We should set up strike range to cleanup those oddball German cities. In particular, that city next to OUR gems. Luxuries are very powerfull in this game, and I want those gems.

If I know Zululand, they will join the war. The have always been the easy civ for me to get to ally with me.

I am half way through my turns and will finish it tonight.

I had moved two strong forces near to the German cities of Stuttgert in the south and Cologne in the north. I was just waiting for some new Knights to arrive when Stuttgert defected to us. :lol:

The Cologne attack force is being moved to Nurenberg while the erstwhile Stuttgert attack force moves to Cologne. When they are in position I will start the war against the Germans.

"I was just waiting for some new Knights to arrive when Stuttgert defected to us." Not surprised. Maybe Cologne will do the same.

Try to see if you can annoy Germany and get him to declare war. Our reputation isn't the best and would prefer that he declares war. I know Zululand will ally with us.

I hope you kept a unit on the forsest by the wines. It can simply be a warrior.

When Colongne falls, get a worker to those gems. You can never have enough luxuries.

Note to all players. 20 turns is the maximum to play. You may play less at any time

I am downloading the patch as we speak. I suggest all succesion game players get the patch BEFORE moving, so that we are all on the same version.
