Sumer - CBP Compatable Custom Civs

That sounds too powerful to me, to be honest.

It would be weaker (late game at least) than the system we already have when it's used to it's fullest capacity, but stronger than it used poorly

We could change the numbers to be +1F/C * era if you think that works

Alright! Progress Update.

Everything is done except for:

Civlopedia Entries
Leader Scene Art
Dawn of Man art and quote
Leader Icon
Ziggurat Yields (Technically done, I'm just tweaking them)

I'm self-balancing the Patron bonuses a little before I post the beta for you guys to try out yourselves. I won't bother waiting until the civlopedia and art is done to let you guys try it, as I can write that while I wait for some feedback. Hopefully, I'd like to give it out as a few alphas/betas while everyone tells me their opinions before a Official first release, and from there I'll make some hotfixes and maybe a few stronger updates while we get it into a good standing regarding other cbp civs. Don't hold me to this, but as it is now the first alpha should be ready by Friday the latest. It could be tomorrow (the due-date I gave myself when I started this -- Whoo!) if I don't hit any unexpected obstacles. After the official release, I'll start a poll about which civ I should do next with about 5-10 options, so you guys have that to look forward to!

SHAMELESS ADVERTISEMENTS: ANY ARTIST WHO WANTS TO LAND THEIR NAME ON THE MOD, PLEASE MESSAGE ME ABOUT MAKING THE LEADER ICON AND/OR THE LEADER SCENE AND DAWN OF MAN IMAGES. I can do them myself if I have to, but I guarantee they won't be very good looking. There's also the option of literally using Neb II for the leader scene, which I personally would like but understand that some people wouldn't want that. Please send any feedback on that Leader Scene option if you have any, even if it's to say "i dont care, go ahead if you want." Also, if you guys have some CBP friends around the forums, tell them to check this thread out, as I would like to have more opinions from the users! I know Funak pretty much carries the conversation on their own, but it'd be nice to see some new faces too!

Thanks all,

Pope

Nice. I'm excited to try it.

My gift to the world :D

Awesome work so far, looking forward to the release and seeing how poorly we managed to balance it all :D

Oh yeah, and since this is already in the Leader Balance forum, we can continue using this thread after release to discuss the balancing down the line.

Should I start a poll thread for the next Civ in leader balance or would it be better the general CBP forum?

Yeah, this thread is still for balance.

I have no real clue how to pick the next civ. Start a thread, either in this subforum(the correct place, probably) or the main forum (more likely to be seen). With some smart thread-design you could probably re-use the same thread over and over again, for consistency.

Can we rename threads? If so, I could just post a poll in leader balance, then rename the poll to the resultant civ and go from there.

You can ask the forum-mods to rename it, but that probably isn't the best solution.

Regarding the civ leader. If you guys want to use Neb anyway, instead of having a boring 2d leader screen, perhaps you guys might want to do a Neb reskin. Change the background, change the textures, lighting and such. Even a bit of remodelling is possible nowadays, but that's a bit more on the advanced side.

Deliverator has done amazing tutorials on this subject.

It's worth a try.

It would be worth a try if I truly had time to give it my best effort, which I don't. As it is, I'm spending a lot of time working on this mod in relation to my school work, partially because I'm a scrub at .lua and partially because (as I've begun to learn) lua is a dumb language anyway. It's not actually dumb, I'm just not used to it, and the Civ5 lua reference wiki is pretty much useless, as there are random methods listed there that don't actually exist.

I thought the coding part of the civ was done? Or are you moving on to other civs?

Sorry, I meant that I had been spending too much time on this for the past few weeks, And that I'm behind in shool work because of it haha

That's dedication :D

Friday now by the way, where's mah Gilgamesh at? :D

He's about ready. I'm busy with class and work all day, but after that I should be able to fix a small bug I ran into while playing it last night (the Patron Select screen goes away forever if you close it before selecting a Patron. Should be an easy enough fix.) Also, I'm changing around some of the Patron bonuses, as I realised some of them could reduce unhappiness sources in CBP. I'm trying to come up with one god for every source (illiteracy, poverty, etc) while having it still make sense.

Just messing with you :D
Keep up the good work.

Sad news:

By fixing the small bug I mentioned earlier, a new one has revealed itself. There's a goofy bug going on where finishing a ziggurat and choosing a patron puts that patron's ziggurat in all cities that have previously chosen a patron. I'm sure it has something to do with my lua so I'll look it over tomorrow probably. I'll still release the civ later tonight woth some info so you guys can spot any other bugs that don't regard the Ziggurat (I dunno, the vultures could be bugged or the free pop might have a wonky gameplay effect.) I'll also list the 'finished' patrons with their bonuses as well as the skeleton ones that pretty much do nothing so we can brainstorm on what benefits they should do.

"99 bugs in the code, 99 bugs in the code
take one down, patch it up,
177 bugs in the code."

Are you releasing the current broken version or the old one (seemed less broken)?

Mostly interested in if I want to avoid settling diverse cities or if I want to avoid closing to selection-window :D

It'll be the new one, simply because the current bug I just mentioned might have been in the old version, I just didn't hit the right circumstances for it to happen. It looks like it also affects buildings that are currently constructing the Ziggurat as well, which should help point me toward the cause of it. I might fix it tonight but honestly I have to catch up on schoolwork. It feels bad to disappoint you guys

Don't worry about it.
