They had an almost entirely Nordic population with few Jews. The Dutch received similarly preferential treatment, though there were far more Jews in the Netherlands.

Just to elaborate. Denmark was also used as a propaganda example of how a good occupied nation should behave towards the nazis. And actually there were a sizeable jewish population 3-4000 I believe here in Denmark but we got them all to Sweden before the Nazis could do anything to them(dont take away the only thing we as a nation can be proud of during ww2;) even when it isnt that much in the grand scheme of things)

But both countries were/are very homogeneous and we sort of saw the futility of waging war against such a military(although in Norway there were terrain that made guerilla warfare possible) Denmark is retardedly impossible to defend if you dont have a superior navy and even then a very cold winter can make that useless:lol:.

Also I believe most of the german soldiers occupying the nordic countries were normal wehrmacht soldiers and not ss-fanatics. I remember my grandfather telling stories about he as a kid liked the german soldiers because they brought chocolate and candy and were quite friendly.

Sidequestion: I believe I read somewhere that Denmark was not included in the Jalta-agreements and it was basically a race between the Brits and Soviets. Is there any truth in that?

Probably France, or Benelux, Norway, even Italy is possible...:p

I define my most pleasant living place during WWII based on how heavy the destruction was, I chosed France because she was "liberated" soon, and French have a sense of nationalism which was still rare in Baltic states, former-Ottoman states, etc., although as a fallen belligerent, Germany caused devastating effects on it...however, I just like it (it's an personal option ;))

German and Russian occupied lands were battlefields actually, they stole from you, they robed you, they raped you, they frightened you, they owned you and your dog, etc., living those places had no difference with hell.

France, Benelux and Norway were osculated as I think that they were "higher people"(of course not the highest) in according to Hitler's theory...it shown great difference when comparing how they treat the Slavs and Jews in their "Wonderland" :D

Edit: They don't treat Polish well either.

None, I'm the wrong skin colour.

Without looking at any posts: Norway. The major lines of fighting on the eastern front and western front were never going to reach me.

I'm pretty certain Masada could fit in with some swarthy Bulgarians.

My paternal grandfather served the entire war in Norway, so I really hope what you say is true.

Masada is notably an Australian, a Territorian, and a Maori.

Oh really! I thought he/she stayed in Indonesia, :thanx: taillesskangaru.

And what is a "territorian"? I don't understand?!

Okay, talking something about him/her is just out of my curiosity, should we go back to the topic now:)

It seems like Norway is the current best destination for building large-scale refuge for modern residents, (current over 55%), and no one choose Germany or Czechoslovakia.
This result makes me feel... ..., the war was over and the answers seems unnecessary (?!) as everything is already known and predictable.:crazyeye:

What's the matter of having different skin colour...

You do realise that people of colour kind of got gassed alongside the Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, Communists and Socialists (etc) right? I happen to be one, ergo I'd prefer not to be in reach of the Nazi's full-stop. You white people might be fine; I certainly wouldn't even had I sheltered in somewhere like Norway, Denmark or freaking Finland. Japanese occupation on the other hand I would have be fine under; you lot on the other hand, including neutrals, and co-belligerents, would have been placed in camps.

(from somewhere in Sumatra (Medan? Palembang?) to Japara)

Why the heck would I be from Sumatra? (Statistically I'm far more likely to be from Java than Sumatra, assuming I'm from Indonesia in the first place). And the title suggests I'm from Japera and not Japara whatever that is. I also notably like to take my photo in black and white, wearing early twentieth century Javanese garb.

Kind of like a New South Welshman or South Australian only with a functional government.

Depends. You might get unlucky and get drafted for slave labour.

As a Chinese I probably wouldn't fare very well in the Coprosperity Sphere.

Which is kinda ironic.

The thing that puts Norway a huge step above France, Benelux, or Italy is the actual war. Most parts aren't nearly as heavily bombed and had less troops moving through blowing stuff up (many Dutch, for example had an absolutely terrible winter of 1944-45 due to lack of food)

Well I wouldn't chose France precisely due to the heavy bombing it sustained. By the Allies. Which at the time made eminent sense. It did however make France the most heavily bombed country in western Europe.

Also, the food situation. Under German occupation the French public were only allowed 1200 calories/day, instead of the required more like 2400. The Danes ate a LOT better, so much so German troops stationed there brought lots of surplus foodback home, and Denmark got nicknamed "The Butter Front". Even the Norwegians ate a lot better than the French.

It amazes me that so few people are picking Finland. Even you'd be safe there, Masada. The Nazis had absolutely zero influence over Finland, right up to the point that the Finns turned on them in 1944. Even then, it was basically a fighting retreat on the part of the Germans, who were trying to evacuate to Norway without leaving any of their supplies behind.

Iceland would still be better than Finland. Finland would be the second best choice. For me personally Finland would be problematic because of ideological issues - my family is Red and would probably already be dead, having been killed by the Whites during or after the civil war...

Iceland isn't listed among the options there. It also fails under the criteria listed in the OP. Of the choices, Finland is by far the best. And the question is where would you be more likely to survive WWII, not where would you be most likely to survive the Russian Civil War and its aftermath.

The way the poll is set, voting for Finland means voting for Hungary or Romania, two places I would not have wanted to be in 1944-45. Separate Finland out, and I vote Finland. As stated in the poll, Norway.
