SymNES II - Ash Like Snow

For future reference, the Hit List of People Who Said They Were Interested, Have Not Yet Joined (Yet May Do So) Whom You Are Free to Hound if They Do Not, or HLPWSTWIHNYJYMDSWYAFHTDN:

- TerrisH
- Slavic Sioux
- Kal'thzar
- LittleBoots
- Azale
- ~Darkening~
- Luckymoose
- Justo
- Dachspmg
- carmen510
- Disenfrancised
- Niklas

LightFang and Swissempire have been excluded due to having joined and then having quit or disappeared, and Head Serf for apparently having left NESing. Once all state-breakup maps have been posted, collated, the results posted, and stats generated, there will be a one-week window before deadline. If after that time these people have not weighed in, or joined, you have my blessing to aggravate them. ;)

Anyway, we have 6/10 maps with Chandrasekhar, Birdjaguar, North King and Fuschia remaining. Props to Origin Two for being the first three to get their maps in, you've redeemed yourselves for being the later order senders.

I am happy to start playing but I can't decide on any nation.

So Symph either you can choose a nation for me or some of the current players can recommend some nations they want played and I'll decide from there.

I don't want anything big just something that's average or small sized.

I would appreciate a player to take control of Eiho'abanae'iegohae so the two major Alarkien nations can be filled. Anyone wondering if they want it should read some of my older stories and PM for background, as it is very important to playing IC.

If you want an unusual, small, and rather nomadic nation, I'll probably have one or two of those available.

Speaking of which, Symphony, I'll hopefully have those in tonight, but no guarantees, as I am performing.

Would it be viewed as valuable to include an order requirement section on the front page?
I've generally been using the template you gave us in the old thread (with Societal Development/Entropy, Timeline, etc.)--it might make sense to repost that on the front page, as well as to modify it as we get into shorter turns with actual spending and the like.
What kind of additional information would be beneficial on the front page?
It's pretty good right now; only thing I could think of would be a general description of technology at the moment (i.e. whether a given origin has bronze/iron, crop rotation, chariot/horses, pottery, writing, bricks, arches/domes, irrigation/aquaducts, etc.). I realize this varies from nation to nation, but I'd think the essentials (relating to war and agriculture) would be similar.

Would it be viewed as valuable to include an order requirement section on the front page?

It certainly would be, especially if and when said requirements grow more complex.

What kind of additional information would be beneficial on the front page?

Aside from what jalapeno_dude said, I think the official names for celestial bodies and geographic locations would be most useful.

EDIT: And possibly whole glossaries, at least for terms used on a frequent basis (like the Irad), but that might be a bit too much. A timeline would naturally become useful as more time passes and as our history grows more detailed; not sure about right now.

Yes, that is the largest thing keeping me from an outright "I'm in". As a prospective player, I would find this highly valuable.

Is my waiting approriate or should I be actually doing something?

Two of my states: Kalimaka and Kalioha are certainly open for new players to command.

It has now occurred to me that a basic example of what you expect, format-wise, would be very useful (especially for such sections that require our own descriptions of something, as with Progression, Society or Tenets).

Speaking of Tenets, that would seem to be the most unobvious part. Are we supposed to list ideals, or describe the dominant ideology, or both, or what?

Zhedai Ascendancy

Government: 90,000 / Despotic / hereditary monarchy, ruler is also general

Cooperative/Autonomous: 3
Individualist/Collectivist: 2
Hedonistic/Ascetic: 1
Idealistic/Pragmatic: 2
Productive/Conductive: 1
Urban/Rural: 2

Tenets: expansion, honor, wealth
Overview: The Zhedai Ascendancy has, over the last hundred years, managed to establish control over the entire Dhide river, making it the most populous, and richest, Shaituhu state. Under a succession of war-oriented rulers, it has sought to expand its zone of control to the coast through conquest.

Sisai

Government: 150,000 / Major cities / quadruple monarchies with power-sharing agreement
Military: Average / Strong; trained spearmen and early warships
Vitality: Stagnant / Strong

Idealistic/Pragmatic: 2
Productive/Conductive: 1
Urban/Rural: 1

Dhauhai
Progression: Low Imperial / Advanced irrigation, monumental architecture, developed astronomy
Development: Developed /
Government: 40,000 / Tribal / aristocratic caste with assembly of patriarchs
Military: Pathetic / Weak; trained spearmen and merchant galleys

Tenets: wealth, glory, duty to the clan
Overview: Dhauhai is the only Shaituhu state that originated before the Great Collapse, and thus still has entirely clan-based organization. Dhauhai is also blessed by an outstanding natural defensive location, as well as being the main gateway between the western and eastern branches of Shaituhu civilization. It is caught between two much more powerful states.

Haitsu Principate
Progression: Low Imperial / Advanced irrigation, advanced navy, rudimentary bureaucracy
Development: Less Developed /
Government: 130,000 / Despotic / hereditary monarchy
Military: Colossal / Strong; spearmen and advanced warships

Tenets: power, expansion, land
Overview: The Hiatsu Principate is an aggressively expansionist state that seeks new territory above all. After securing its place on the mainland it has aggressively been incorporating Shaituhu settlements across Lake Ningi through a combination of economic and military pressure (enforced by Haitsu control of entry and exit from the lake). The Principate is currently expanding to the east, but would not hesitate to move in the opposite direction if it saw an opportunity.

Dzixau Confederation
Progression: Low Imperial /
Development: Least Developed /
Government: 30,000/ Villages / confederation of city-states
Military: Average / Average; spearmen and warships

Productive/Conductive: 1
Urban/Rural: 3

Tenets: peace, stability, expansion
Overview: The Dzixau Confederation is a relatively new entity created originally to resist incursions from the natives to the east and south, but which in recent years has found itself acting as a counterweight to Haitsu ambitions of further expansion. It is primarily concerned with preserving the security of its constituent populace.

I assume I'm correct in stating that the Shiatzu societies are in the Low Imperial world? If not, I'll need to rethink some things...

Retroactive deletion.

Presumably. The only one I could see making a halfway decent case otherwise would be the Dzixau Confederation, but it's a coalition of city-states, so it doesn't really fly.
...explain. Do you mean that you see the Dzixau Confederation being more advanced? Because from my point of view they're the least advanced society I detailed.

I'll edit in the rest as the day goes on.

I'm interested in one of Jalepeno dudes nations.

Zhedai Ascendancy, Sisai or Dzixau Confederacy all look good to me so I'll wait for Jalepeno to choose which nation he wants and he can recommend which one he would like to have a player out of what's left.
