Decloak: Though at 3000 BC, I don't think human migrations would be able to outrun the pace of skin colour change in the same way that has happened in the past 500 years or so.

Mostly the former, though I suppose that it really is quite flimsy. Still, worth a try.

Still, migratory patterns aren't all that useless... Now I'm going to be really impatient for the next set of maps; it's beginning to look like a curious puzzle.

It also matches quite well with bacterial and fungal skin parasite density, thus african (subtropics where everthing is optimised to kill us) populations gained/retained large amounts of melanin. Combination of factors being the answer here of course .
