SysNES 1: A Murky Pool of Light

OOC: Are you going to provide answers to all the symbols? Furthermore, what are the four Geashial virtues?

:p

Ominous ship is Ominous

That's for sure. It's certainly very different from the rest of the other ships. :(

Keep it away from me.:p

Man you guys pattern recognition is poor. Also it looks lower tech when you can see the girders:

Spoiler :
kationhellebore2.png

It would help if I knew which end was the front and back () and not write off the Hellebore as a possibility because the sides were pointing to the wrong end. Also, that diagram is really cool.:goodjob:

The Hellebore was going to be my suggestion, but you revealed it before I had a chance to post.

Since no one else seems up to the task, my full-scale attempt on the symbolism.

Gardeners:

1. The Tree of Life, obviously.
2. The circles representing the dual worlds of Kaus II and III, hot and cold, balancing one another.
3. Some type of possible shared (Iskandrian?) heritage with the Soulon as denoted by circles.

Al:

1. The inward pupils, as I mentioned before.
2. The six-pointed star, potentially a stylized star of David? It would fit in with the ‘Al theme of exile, exiled by pseudo-Muslims no less.

Ik:

1. Islam is the obvious one, with the crescent moon.
2. My hypothesis on the triple crescent is that a moon orbits a planet, which orbits a sun. So, the expansion of the crescent moon to include the domination of the planets and suns signifies the imperial ambitions of the Ik.

Unfortunately I don’t know much about ideograms, so I’m gonna have to take a pass on the Esani and Lantians.

Vazan:

1. The Diamond Network.
2. I can only think that the circle and rectangle emphasize the application of pure geometric forms, which manifests in tool using and then in technology. Of the two cyborg factions, the Vazan lean more towards the application of the “tech” in biotech.

Kations:

1. The Diamond Network.
2. As I said earlier, the caduceus, symbolizing the unlocking and exploration of the biological organism. Of the two cyborg factions, the Kations lean more towards the application of the “bio” in biotech.

Soulon:

1. Chevrons, and all the military/nationalist connotations therein.
2. Six circles, perhaps the six rocky worlds of Kaus? There’s definitely some type of symbolism about the various worlds of the Republic, all contributing to the Cause ™.

Akresians:

1. I’m not satisfied with a simple representation of chaos. The swirl in the center looks like a chakra, perhaps symbolizing inner strength?
2. There might be some biological symbolism going on here, also reflecting the belief of the Akresians that they are a superior brand of humanity. Perhaps an inner ear, or a digestive tract, I can’t quite tease it out, but there’s something.

Liberes:

1. The meaning of skulls shouldn’t be too hard to figure out. They’re looking in all directions, which symbolizes mobility and omnipresence.
2. While the image is 2d, I can’t help but think that the third bone is operating on a z-axis. More emphasis on the omnidirectional nature of space and space combat. Regardless, reminds me of the outward arrows of chaos from WH/WH40K.

Priors:

1. Hydrogen atom was a pretty classy explanation. But any type of core-ring symbolism, also expressing a sense of unity, simplicity, and symmetry.
2. There’s a sense of mystery in the circle as well, with the inexpressible true value of pi mirroring the inability of humanity to understand what the Priors were actually about.

Other Alien Faction Observations:

Too much mystery to figure out much here, though the first faction does look like a snake eating its own tail. The second faction has the Prior symbol in the middle of it, which indicates some type of connection with the Priors themselves. The circle is slightly off center, which might just be a mistake, or it might indicate a low-tech Prior-worshipping civilization. The gear-type thing around it could have a ton of meanings. Nothing much to say about the third faction, but the fourth seems to indicate some type of intersecting/duality going on.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Republic of Ik

The Colonist Faction:- Made up of the remnants of the former Rasheed faction, and various bits of the Al’Hassan and Solani, the Colonist faction’s main goal is as its name suggests. After PC Rasheed retired from office, his faction was left in disarray. Most of it was kept together by the political will of Rasheed so after his departure there was nothing left to hold them together. It was political new comer Fatih Mehmet, and close ally Omar Bashir, who happened to be one of Rasheed’s oldest supporters, who formed the new Colonist faction. Mehmet had only served in the Senate for two years at the time, and had experienced enormous success, despite his youth. Using this, he catapulted himself ahead of his competitors and was able to, in a rather stunning election, grab the office of the Prime Chancellor after Rasheed. So far Mehmet has established his political dominance using similar tactics that Rasheed used, however they have been, of late, not as effective.

The Sajara Wasala Faction:- The growing dominance of the Colonists and the failure of either the Al’Hassan or the Solanist to mount any credible defense created something of a backlash against the ruling faction. Thus the Solanist crumbled and from the rubble came the Sajara. Mainly composed of reactionary elements of Ik society, the Sajara, unlike both the Al’hassan and the Solanist, toed the line between the defense of the home system, to the colonization of Arrakis. Instead of being staunch isolationist and conservatives, they argued that the resources of Arrakis should only be used to further the cause of the home system. Without developments on the home front expansion would be not only impossible, but futile. The Sajara won over many people, and collected a majority of the Solanist base, and even snatched a few seats from the Colonists. However they still remain a minority in the Senate.

The Department of Bio-Preservation(DBP):- As colonists swept over to the Arraksi system and settled onto Eve, there was a growing concern that the precious eco-system on Eve would be damaged. Thus on August 14th 17 AT the Bio-Preservation Act was passed by the Senate. This bill put forth numerous stipulations on immigration to Eve, however the main component of the bill was the creation of the DBP. This department is dedicated to ensuring that Eve, remain its current state of glory. Some politicians, mainly those of the Sajara faction have suggested that the DBP’s powers should be widened to include Taik, however the economic need and the current wealth that the mines on Taik produce is to great to be quickly replaced. However with the Arrakis system opening up, many believe that the need for mines on Taik will soon be no more.

Arrakis Development Corporation(ADC):- The ADC is possibly the largest construction firm in all of Ik. Founded at the beginning of the colonization of Arrakis, they have handled the majority of the construction contracts on Eve, and have continuously been awarded some of the largest contracts yet. however the recent popularity of the Sajara faction as seen a decline in their funding as defense on the home front receives billions of Afshati in funding. As such they have relied solely on local contracts, and although they are significant due to the boom in population, the company has been facing tough times. Their stock has, of late, begun to decline, worrying many investors as to their stability, however with the creation of the trade route between Arrakis and Errai, a steady stream of raw materials can now be transported between the two systems, despite the high cost.

The Arrakis-Eve Trade Highway:- Founded in 17 AT by Fatih Mehmet, the A-E Highway was an attempt to appease his own Colonist supporters as well as many individuals in Arrakis itself. The highway has allowed for a much more smooth flow of resources from one system to the other, instead of the bursts of progress previously exhibited by colonial efforts.

Taik Broadcasting Company(TBC):- The TBC had been around, even before the Tumult, as a local news station for the colony on Taik. The tumult, consequentially knocked out most of their infrastructure, however since they were the only company with the training and technology to provide the service, they became the largest broadcasting network in the Republic. Few competitors have arisen to challenge their current dominance over the news waves, however they do not experience a completely unchallenged hegemony. With the new colonization efforts the TBC has failed to make head way into the Arrakis news market, since most Arrakis natives choose to rely on local networks, who have a smaller profile that has continued to remain much more in touch with the needs of Arrakisians.

Omar Ghanzani and the Frontstep crew:- Possibly the most popular band since Sharif Al’Mossad’s sensational band, the Blue Dudes, the Ghanzi fever has swept the nation and has even managed to make head way in Arrakis. They ranked #1 on the top 100 charts 10 times in a row and have sold four platinum albums. It remains to be seen if they can beat the Blue Dudes, who hold the record at six however.

Holofunk:- The new sensation that is taking the Errai system by storm, Holofunk is a new brand of music, which actually might not be called music. It blends the use of funktastic base beats with crazy 3D visuals on its Holo-Emitter Array. Abdul Jabar, a not-to-well known musician from Abnuik city on Taik, developed the HEA while he was fiddling around with a few spare parts of a small holographic projector. He configured the device to display and organic array of shapes and colors in relation to the music he played, thus creating a unique display of shapes each time the same song was played. At first he simply amused himself by showing his friends the device while he played on his Funktron (some what poorly), however after word reached the ears of CEO Mohammad Akbar, of the tech giant Dynamic Inc, he paid a visit to Jabar’s garage. After only a week Jabar had bought a patent for his device (oddly enough with the aid of Akbar), and then together they built the company Funk Tech, a subsidiary of Dynamic Inc. currently Funk Tech is ranked #3 on the Tehran Post’s list of Fastest growing companies, behind Osman Industries (producer of new-age computer parts), and Shukran Inc (producer of some of prosthetic body parts).
