TAM BTS v0.82 Released!

Actually, I often leave games unfinished when the outcome is certain. Most of my games end about 100 turns or so early. Rather than loading my previous game and playing through the long turns, I like to start fresh and try out a different civ. I am quite lucky because I work the night shift and have a lot of down time at work. I generally get about 25-30 hours of gaming time in each week at work. I also play some nights when I am at home after the family has gone to bed (since I'm used to staying up all night).

It's funny that you mention the heroes. That is one of the areas that I thought could use some improvement. Right now they are like a carbon copy of the civ's unique unit with a couple of free promotions. When a hero dies, they can be rebilt in one turn. I'll start another thread with ideas for heroes.

Very good I dont feel so old and slow now..... haha... Before I was a tester, I played very similarily as you do. I could tell very quickly how the game was going to turn out, and if it was bad, start a new game... haha....

Now that Im testing, I try to go at least to the end of the Tech Tree, and make sure there are no bugs associated with the Techs and Wonders.

I finished my first test Thursday night as Carthage, and won the Time Victory and had completed the Tech Tree prior to that, so it was a long long test run.
But found and fixed nearly all the bugs that have been reported to date, about the time they were being reported in most cases.... haha.....

My second test will be as Rome as I promised Snake to check out some of the game play issues he was having.

Keep me posted on any new text bugs, thanks for the help again.

For those of us who are computer impaired:

Do we delete the old version? Override it? I assume it goes in the BTS/Mods directory.

Where does the map file get downloaded?

Thanks,

Breunor

Bruenor,

At the least remove the TAM mod file from the BTS/Mods folder. If you dont have any use for the old one, then toss it.

Download the maps in the BTS/Public Maps Folder,
Shqype suggests downloading it in the BTS/Public Maps folder in

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Public Maps

as well.

Enjoy the new update. Check the TAM threads before you post any Text Bugs.Mmost of which should be caught, but if you find one that hasnt been mentioned, please post it.

Happy TAMing

A note on the public maps.

When you download the maps, they will be zipped into one archive file. When you unzip that archive file, it will include a folder with the four map files inside. If you unzip this directly into the "Public Maps" directory, you will have a folder inside the directory with the four map files, and they will not be playable.

I recommend unzipping the archive file to your desktop or to a directory where you keep mods that you have downloaded. I unzipped it into the same folder that I have the installation executable for the TAM mod stored in. After unzipping the folder, highlight the four files and copy/paste them into the "Public Maps" directory.

If you are using Windows XP, the "Public Maps" directory will be in two places. You can find it by navigating through the directories of the installed game. Alternately, there is folder located in "My Documents" area. I believe the entire path would be ...My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword/Public Maps.

I hope this was helpful.

Mesix,

This is very helpful. These are the kinds of issues people like me really need help with.

Best wishes,

I am curious as to why the maps aren't nested inside of the mod in the 'PublicMaps' folder (no space) as they aren't really intended for use with other mods anyways

Good point. They're available as a separate download so that you can put them wherever you want. It's not necessary to put them in Public Maps folder.

I suppose you could just double click on the map file and it would load?

The only way that I can get the maps to appear in the scenarios list to load them from the ingame menu is to put them in the public maps directory. Is there another way to do it?

Mesix,

I put a copy in the Public Maps Folder and in the Public Maps folder in the Documents/My Games/Civ4/BTS/Public Map folder as Sqype has mentioned before.

I have found unless a MODpack is tightly put together with a self execute command/program, that its a hit and miss thing. so i put multiple copies as mentioned above AND in the mod folder. Sometimes you have to make sure the Mod name corresponds with the map. But most of the time the simplest thing is to just make sure the maps are copied in the two Public Maps folder.

it can make a modder go mad...... haha

:crazyeye:

did you get my private emails i sent you this weekend? (message to Mesix)

Hi all,

Love the mod. In fact, I only like to play in this time period! Anyway, I'm not sure where it originates, but I miss some XPs on military units that I produce. I play the Scythians, have their special stable that should give 4 XPs, have a legendary instructor that should give +2 XPs, Conscription that should add another 2 XPs, a National Wonder (think its National Epic?) that should give another +2, a barrack that should give another +2... So If I had all that, it should give 12 XPs but I only get 6 XPs... Is something wrong?

THX

Scythian Stable will give xps to Cavalry units not melee units. Baracks give xps to melee/archery/skirmish units

Heroic Epic will give you two experience points in the city it is built in

Military Instructor will give two experience points in the city he is training in

Conscription will take place in all citys of your civilization

you would have to have all those factors in play in a single city to produce that many xps for a unit.

Hope this explains things for you

THX Graywarden for the explanation. I double checked and even if Baracks do not give XP to my cavalry units, I should still reveive the benefits of the rests of the improvments! So 2 for epics, 2 for instructors, 4 for Scythian stable, 2 for Conscription so 10 XPs. But when I build a Scythian Cav, I only get 6 XPs... Is it a bug?

PasLef,

So lets double check, you have one city that has the following improvements:

Heroic Epic = 2xps

Military Instructor =2xps

Barracks = 2xps

Total SINGLE CITY = 6xps

My next test I will play as the Scythians, and double check everything (Scythians are one of my fav civs).

Please verify that you have a problem with the above scenario in a single city.

Exactly, plus scythians stables (+4 xp) and conscription (+2 xp).

Would it be quicker to send you my save file?

PasLef

Graywarden, aren't you missing the scythian stable? PasLef is saying that he built a Scythian cavalry, so he should get the benefits of that one too.

Marmoteo,

The Scythian Stable gives xps to Cavalry units, not melee units as mentioned earlier.

Sorry I forgot the Conscripton Civic.

Remember the point is ALL those factors apply to a single city, not all cities.

Conscription Civic = 2xps (all cities)

Heroic Epic = 2xps (single city)

Military Advisor = 2xps (single city) (multiple advisors in a single city are possible)

Barracks = 2xps (single city)

Total Single City = 8xps (melee units) in city with Heroic Epic, MA, Barracks with Conscription Civic

Total Single City = 6xps (cavalry units) in city with Heroic Epic, MA, Barracks with Conscription Civic

Only the city with Heroic Epic can reach the above equations, any other city will top out at 6xps per equation (unless you install multiple MAs)

you have to look at the situation city by city, not across the board.

does that clarify things?

I'm sorry if it has been already mentioned and solved. But I still suffer modern look workers and roads in the imperial age.

I've got BTS patched to 3.13, TAM 0.82

Am I doing something wrong?

No those graphics have not been converted to a TAM graphic as of yet.
Art guys are tearing it up on new buildings and cityscapes.
Hopefully the modern workers and roads will be fixed by next patch.

Happy TAMing
