Hi Joshi, welcome to the party.
I had noticed you blasting your way through the lower rankings a while back and was wondering where you came from. Nice of you to introduce yourself here. I hope you take the time to browse the rest of OT and stay for a while.

As for me, I've been having an extreme streak of bad folding for the past three weeks. My connection is getting crappy, and it disconnects very often, resulting in many a WU lost. I hope I can finish this one to get back in the action.

I tried downloading the Windows 2000/XP/Vista Graphical client 5.03 and it kept telling me "The self extracting file is incomplete. The total filesize should be and then it gives me some numbers. For some reason I'm only getting the first 82kb of the download and then it says complete but then the rest of the program is missing.

Then I downloaded Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista text-only console and that worked but I can't see any progress, does the text only console work just like the graphic one?

Nevermind on the 5th try the graphic downloaded. Thanks anyway

Apparently I have a dual core CPU because it's only running 50%, how do you get it to use 100% again? I remember someone else having that problem but I don't remember how to fix it.

At least I'm officially listed as having 2 CPUs now, :)

You have two options: either run two copies of the client you are currently running; or run a single SMP client which shares out its processing across the available cores.

I'm sorry to be so much trouble, but how might I make either of those happen?

I'll just run at 50% then, thanks. I'm simple, I don't do complicated well, considering it took 5 tries to do the simple thing. :crazyeye:

Sorry, I should have said you have a third option - stick with what you have :)

Well, I've still doubled my folding power, because half of this one is still about as good as the other one.

I haven't actually done this, since I don't have a dual core, but isn't as hard as it looks. Either run the beta SMP client, or install 2 single clients. At least one of these must be the console client. During the config, change the cpu number to something other than 0(1?, not default anyway), and everything should run ok. The F@H forums will have instructions for the current clients.

A little note for everyone else, there's a beta GPU2 client out, it supports the 2xxx and 3xxx ATI series of video cards. If you have one, take a look. Nothing for Nvidia yet though.

I simply ran an installer for the SMP client on my Mac, and it works fine. The computer has to be on something like 24 x 7 in order to meet the tight deadlines for the SMP work units, but it pumps out about 2000 points per day using around 50% of my 4-core system.

My time at #1 on the points per day list is ending shortly, my biggest point-producing server is going into production (i.e. won't run F@H anymore) today, and my second-biggest point producer went into production yesterday; between them they were cranking out probably 3000 points per day. :(

I'm doing my part!! Unlike some before, I leave it on whatever I'm doing on the comp. It's actually much less taxing than my anti-virus.

OMG! We lost 7000 points on our average PPD !
Okay, I'll try the new version next week and get back to folding. It will not amount to amount to much, but every little bit helps, doesn't it ?

It's behaving very oddly (and not working) on my Vista machine at work and I can't seem to make sense of it. :(

I'm in. I tried installing two clients for my duo cores, but ended up in confusion. I guess I'll stick with one core for now...

I installed it on my sister's laptop, so now I know how to explain how to do it.

1)Create two folders somewhere on your HD. Doesn't really matter where, I put a 'Folding' folder in Program Files, and inside that I have Folding 1 and Folding 2.

2)Download the Windows 5.04 console client, saving it in one of your created folders. Don't run it yet.

3)Copy and paste the file into the other created folder.

Do the following in each folder separately.
4)Double click the file(should look like a big red gear, is actually a protein model).

5)Read each option before choosing. Use whatever username you want, our team number is 47958. You can mostly accept the defaults until you get to choosing advanced options. Select yes on this one. When asked if you want to run as a service, yes means the client will start as soon as you boot. No means you have to manually start the client. I always run as a service.

6)You'll probably want the defaults until you get to machine ID. Default is 1. One of your folders can use 1, the other must use something else. 2-8 are fair game, use 2 to keep it simple.

7)After all config is done, you'll see F@H start connecting to the servers. The program will only run as long as the window is open, closing it will end F@H. For now, as soon as it downloads the core and starts work, close it and move to the next folder.

8)Repeat for the 2nd folder, remembering to change the machine ID.

9)If running as a service, both cores should start working on the next boot, you can also start them manually if you don't want to reboot.

Hope this helps, feel free to PM me if you run into trouble.
