Team CFC: Folding@Home project

If I had the money ( which I dont ) I would totally set up a rack of quad-GTX295 nodes. http://atlasfolding.com/ -- This guy is doing that, and he's getting 66k Ppd. If each of his nodes is a 4U shelf, then 20 of them should do some amazing numbers (1.32m Ppd to be exact  )
Maybe if I have that much disposable income, or set up a donation-based project to get the money, I will do it.
Team CFC will quickly rise to #1 :D

EDIT - to answer my own previous question. I run the GPU client, no CPU one cus its not behaving very well. So far I get around 4k Ppd, and thats not running it 24/7

Does anyone knows what this is all about:

For some reason, and honestly I cannot remember why, I think that transparency on your windows is causing it.

I setup F@H on my father's computer a year or two ago and that just seemed like it fixed the problem.

Take this advice with a massive can of Morton's salt, I don't remember.

That happens to me all the time when I shut down my pc. I generally disregard it though because it resumes as normal after I boot again

I once saw that error, and no matter what I tried I could not restart the F@H application. I finally deleted F@H entirely and reinstalled it to fix it.

Anyone running the GPU client run into problems with fahcore_14?

What do you mean? I dont think you can choose which WU you get. Its possible I think to write a program that checks the deadline on the WU and if its too far away, it shuts down the core, deletes the work and restarts.

Ive actually had an idea about doing something similar but for points. The 500+ point GPU WU's take over 2 hours to fold but only give 500 something points unlike the 353 point ones which take only 1:30 so get around 100 points more than the 500 point ones int he same amount of time. Kinda defeats the purpose though and it just becomes point whoring.

As aside: ive finally hit 8000ppd but I can only run the CPU client on 3/4 cores and have to let it cool down every 12 hours. Gonna get a new heatsink in a week or so and some better fans. Possibly a second GTX 260+ in a couple of months.

Uhhm, find out why FaH is doing that is your first priority. It should not be downloading a new WU when you already have one going ( which is what I'm assuming is happening here )

If you have two clients running - eg. one GPU, one CPU - then you will have two work units, I guess. But I've no idea whether they live in the same directory.

if you have more than one client running you need to give them separate folders ( so CPU 1 is in C:\Program Files\FAH6 CPU1\ and CPU 2 is in C:\Program Files\FAH6 CPU2\ -- your folder names may vary. ) You then need to run the clients with the -local parameter

Does there happen to be a CFC team on the World Community Grid? I've been letting my extra CPU cycles do work for it, but have no team at the moment.

Not as far as I know. I think most of us that do contribute to a distr. computing project use F@H

:bump:

I've managed to get the latest client running on my workstation, so while I doubt I'm going to climb back into the top-10 CFC folders, at least I won't be on the inactive list any more, and perhaps can defend my #2 total points spot for a bit longer against stickciv/GenocidicBunny, schmiddi, and fezzic.

This is good news.

You mean #3 ;)
And I wouldnt worry about me overtaking you. Thats still 200 days away. Until I get a second GPU that is.
