A hundred and twenty years have passed
And nothin's really changed
For the first time in three decades, travel and communication across entire continents is possible and mostly safe, and even transoceanic relations are becoming common. International organisations have sparked the flames of intercontinental trade. Infrastructure between polities has made rail and road transport across continents possible. Increased satellite, combined with the repair of some underseas communication cables, has at last made stable diplomatic relations between all of the world’s polities possible. And increasingly necessary.
While the common civilian can not afford the costs of satellite communication, regional data networks pale in comparison to the internet of the pre-war days, and movement between polity borders is heavily restricted, every year these barriers are bridged. And with that, the peoples of the world come closer to one another, and so to do their ideals. Some polities are going full bore in closing these distances, while others shore up the walls.
The growing international contact is on full display in northeast Asia, where the Russian-backed
Siberian Soviet Federation and
Iron Blood State client
North State had a brief period of conflict in Transbaikal. North State supporters eventually persuaded their Soviet opponents, either diplomatically or otherwise, but the North State’s advance northwards was halted in Yakutia. The North America-based
NorSoc also made inroads across the Bering Sea with Kamchatka joining the socialist polity. The
EAEC went through significant changes as well the last five years, with the last remaining pre-war Japanese islands joining the polity, which then underwent significant internal changes, resulting in the EAEC officially changing its title to the
Society. Tensions between the Chinese successor states continued to grow as the
Iron Blood State worked to match and surpass the military advances made by the
Republic of China in the beginning of the decade. While both the IBS and RoC mostly focused on internal development, the Republic also reclaimed more of western pre-war Chinese territory.
The
Republic of Vietnam continued its non-expansionist, domestically focused development policies, which has lead the polity to having one of the highest wealth per population rates in the world. Meanwhile, territorial acquisitions in pre-war Myanmar and western Australia have given the
Nijima-Haus Directorate multiple borders with other polities for the first, and many are curious how the so-far quiet Directorate will enter the international stage. In Oceania, the
Dunedin Treaty Organisation has been largely quiet, while its sponsored polity, the
Commonwealth of South Australia, continued to reunite the southern Australian territories.
The borders of the twin Indian polities remained largely static, with only the
Federation of South India changing through the annexation of Ceylon. The
Dominion of India mostly focused on domestic development, while its sister polity focused on space and technology, while also expanding its military. The
Islamic Khilāfa of Afghanistan was not so reserved and expanded rapidly, leading to tense borders with the newly formed, Russian-backed
United Soviets of Central Asia in the north and the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the west.
Both Saudi Arabia and the
Sanctuary Republics reacted quickly to the advancing Afghan forces, significantly expanding their own militaries. While the two middle eastern polities can’t compare to Afghan martial juggernaut, they have invested much more into creating strong economies to support the troops they do have. The
Republic of Cyprus meanwhile has heavily focused on advancing its research abilities. While Cyprus may not be on the bleeding edge of any one scientific field, the island has become the overall technologically advanced polity on earth.
Africa remains comparatively quiet compared to the rest of the world, with around half the continent not under the administration of any polity. The expansive power vacuum has enabled two outsider polities to make footholds, with the
Republic of Italy taking control of pre-war Tunisia, while the Caribbean-based
Kingdom of Zion has returned as promised to eastern Africa. While the Italian presence in Africa is for now separated both geographically and diplomatically from the local polities, Zion has been welcomed into the African community, joining the
Union of South African-founded African Trade League. A newcomer itself to the world stage, South Africa has quickly made its mark with the creation of the ATL, as well as significant domestic development and a ‘peacekeeping’ invasion of southern Mozambique. The invasion has created a border with the
Zanzibarland Reclamation Authority, which also made territorial acquisitions in Madagascar and pre-war South Sudan. Opposite Zanzibarland, the
Treda Union and its bubble of sponsored polities, the
Jovian Triumvirate, Oort Aspirant, and newly-founded
Little Titan, continued to spread through central and East Africa. The
Sahel Protection Alliance expanded into Guinea, Cape Verde, and Morocco, bring it into spitting distance of the Iberian polities. Perhaps this was also the reason for the SPA’s extensive focus on growing its land forces.
The situation in Europe has grown increasingly tense over the last half decade. In a move that is seen as fairly blatantly focused on containing the
Nordic Empire, the
Federation of Soviets of Russia,
Federal Republic of Germany, and the
Socialist Union of Democratic Societies have declared a defensive alliance, along with the
United Nations of Earth, the
Dominion of India, and the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. While appearing formidable, there are strains in the organisation, with many questioning the ability of the socialist polities to work with their globalist allies. The SUDS and Germany have already come into low-level conflict, with SUDS-backed socialist and German-backed social-democrats clashing over the fate of the Netherlands, with the area eventually joining Germany. The Socialist Union made gains in Andalusia and Sardina, though this has only increased tensions with their Iberian and Italian neighbours. The futurist
Atlantica and
Ibericus polities have reacted to the climate in Europe by signing a full military alliance with their fellow technocrats in the British Isles; the
Oxford-Cambridge Directorate, Administrative State of Ireland, and
Edinburgh-Glasgow Directorate. The cause of much of Europe’s fervour of bloc-making, the Nordic Empire, did not actually make any territorial or military expansions since the early `50s, instead focusing on domestic development and solidifying its ideology in its newer territories, though its mainland client polity, the
New Teutonic Knights, annex territories along the Baltic coast. While western Europe has come entirely under the control of major polities, a swathe of eastern Europe remains in chaos. This pocket of anarchy is surrounded mostly by minor polities, with the Knights in the north, Germany’s
Czech Republic in the West, Russia’s rapidly growing
Ukrainian Federation of Soviets in the East, and Bulgaria’s
Croatia and recently organised
New Romanian State. The
Republic of Bulgaria’s project of an independent, isolated Balkans has progressed smoothly during the past decade, with the steady growth and improvement of Bulgaria itself, as well as its northern border client-polities. Amid the tensions and expansionist ambitions of the European polities, the desires of the Swiss-based
TransLuna appear conservative, with most of its attention turned inwards or upwards.
By ‘59, the entirety of North America has come under polity control. By area, the
United Nations of Earth is the largest polity, though much of its territory remains underdeveloped. Along with its ambitions of a global democratic organisation, the UNE also formed a non aggression agreement with
Black Rose. The enigmatic polity remained silent for the most part, though its rapid military enlargement has drawn some sideways glances. The
Combined Syndicated States of America likewise invested heavily into its armed forces, doing little to relax the UNE populations along the border. The second socialist polity in North America, the
Columbian Union, poured most of its resources into propaganda and reeducation, along with the annexation of Kentucky and some internal development. The last North American socialist polity,
NorSoc, spent considerable time and effort to bring eastern Siberia and Hawaii into the fold, as well as bolstered its military to maintain a presence in its distant territories. With the acquisition of the Yacatan Peninsula, the
Mexican Federation has finished its reconquest of pre-war Mexico, and now held sway over most of Central America, but most of Mexico’s attention was fixed on intensive development of its capital region. Outside of the great journey to East Africa, the
Holy Kingdom of Zion continued to develop and strengthen its Caribbean base. By ‘59, Zion was the most smoothly functioning and governed polity in the world, greatly easing its African expedition.
As tensions between polities rise across the world, the South American community appears to be locking arms together. The South American Trade Alliance, spearheaded by the
People's Socialist Republic of Uruguay, has brought together
Intendência Verditas,
Gran Colombia, and the
Brazilian Democratic Workers' State to ensure the horrors of the ‘30s neocolonialism and environmental destruction never return. Most of the continent is under the administration of the polities, but the few that remain are expected to be divided in peaceful manner through the Alliance’s diplomatic channels. It also expected that Uruguay’s latest project, the
United Socialist Republic of Araucanía and Patagonia, will also be admitted into the organisation.
With the situation on Earth growing more economically stable every year, more polities are looking upwards again. The late ‘50s have seen I
ntendência Verditas, Black Rose, the Mexican Federation, the United Nations of Earth, the Zanzibarland Reclamation Authority, and the Nijima-Haus Directorate all launch space programs. This brings the total number of polities with active satellites in orbit to eleven, though among those, only the
Federation of South India and
TransLuna have expended extra resources to clear away orbital debris.
While transoceanic trade and travel is only in its infancy, the transcontinental expansion of the
Holy Kingdom of Zion, and the more so the founding of the Global Democratic Trade and Defence Group between North American, European, and West Asian polities have sparked the flames of a global community, and with it the infrastructure needed to support the flow of people and goods across continents and oceans. The effects of these closing global ties may take years to truly be felt, but it is undeniable that change is underway.

This turn will cover from the beginning of 2060 to the end of 2064.
This will be the final intro turn. While the stats posted are still not in use until after the update I highly suggest you at least look at the economy and cohesion sections to make sure you aren’t going to collapse on the first turn. I by default set all of your policy spending at the ‘expected’ amount to give a feel for what your economic situation will look like if you want to keep a stable budget. Trade Groups are likewise worth looking at, but the effects of joining them won’t be felt until this update, so feel free to leave or change them this round without any ill effect.
If you have any questions, do ask.
This next turn, all major polities have 7 development points to spend, except for the below:
SUDS 8
Italy 8
Siberia 4
Dunedin 14
Sanctuary 8
Federation of South India 8
All minor npcs have 3 development points.
Available actions are:
- Claim a province. In the event two players claim the same province, rng will decide the winner, and the loser will be refunded their point next turn. Newly annexed provinces will have randomised ideology. Claiming a distant overseas province requires 2 points. There's a handy little line on the map in Antarctica that shows what is considered 'distant'. 'Blitz' claims are okay, but any encircling, wall building, snake chains or any other silliness will be dealt with.
- Improve a province. This will improve the wealth of a province by 5. (note: value may change as balance is fine tuned)
- Change Political Freedom/Centralisation. May change freedom/centralisation to any degree.
- Improve/Change Tech Expertise: provides 2.5 tech points, which can be placed into expertise. Can be placed in amounts as low as 0.5.
- Improve Cohesion by 5%. All polities begin at 50%.
- Improve military. Raises military readiness by 5, military reserves by 5, and 5 EP worth of military units (Army Div=1, Air Wing=2, Navy Group=5).
- Convert province ideology. Change the ideology of one province within your polity to your preferred ideology.
- Space program. Opens up an orbit ‘province’ for your polity with a small amount of wealth. This represents satellites.
- Improve space. Improve the orbit ‘province.’ NOTE: at game start, orbital development is greatly restricted by space debris. Represents expanded satellite programs.
- Remove space debris. Removes 5 ‘debris’ from orbit.
- 2 points, create npc in a neighbouring province. You may create an npc using the regular signup sheet. Next turn the npc will handle its own development, but will be friendly with your polity and share your ideology. In the following turns, the npc will receive 3 points to spend each turn. Creating an npc in a distant overseas province requires 4 points.
This is the last turn new players may join as new polities, just follow the sign-up instructions in the first post. New players can also submit orders the turn they join, using the current turn points (7 for this turn). After this turn, new players will only be able to join by taking over an NPC.
Once again, please send orders via private message (conversation, whatever). Orders posted in thread will not be processed.
Let’s try to get into the full game quickly. Orders are once again due on
Friday the 23rd at around 19:00 JST. As before, I’ll give a heads up a day or so before ‘lock.’
