TerraNES2: SilliNES Part 1: The Invisible Hand is In Your Pants

I don't know what day it is for you, Terrance, considering I'm in Japan with rather sparse internet connection right meow.

Also, can't edit a map right meow either. :/

BUT I BEG YOUR ACCEPTANCE. And copy-pasta names here plox.

Spoiler :
Name: Celestial Kingdom of Yanawratharyedynlwin

Color: Dark Green

Capital City: Kyaunpyawngadaw Rangyigon Ngathaichau Yriyankrungyi Yrimnpyawray Ryawngdawmyawngey Yri Yanawratharyedynlwin [Heavenly and Celestial Grand Palace on the Great River of Many Lights of Peace and Tranquility in the Great City of Yanawratharyedynlwin]

Or just Kyaunpyawngadaw.

Or Ryawngdawmyawngey.

Location: Mawlamyinegyun, Burma/Myanmar

Government: ULTIMATE HIGH AND CELESTIAL KINGDOM. Ruled by the Kyaunthai Ngawang Shaw Ytou Ngadaw Mnaupyadawgyi Pyaw Doutsengryin [Heavenly Great King Who Rules the Celestial Kingdom and All its Inhabitants]

AKA Thang Ngawang.

The title of Thang Ngawang has, since its conception, always been and forever will be held by a member of the most prestigious and grand Mnkrungyichau family.

Army: The Grand and Most Powerful Army of the High King [Rangpyaw Tsnryi Tsodnga Yri Thang Ngawang] consists of a small but well-trained contingency of archers armed with heavy shields and even heavier bamboo bows that can pack a heavy punch, but are unfortunately very slow to fire. The Rang Tsodnga also can, in situations of dire circumstance, call upon every citizen of Yanawrathareydynlwin who will be willing to devote their lives to the High King [should be everyone; if not, then they'll die anyways] and arm them with the same shields, as well as cheap spears and maces, and send them into battle with little to no training. These Fanatical Soldiers [Ngukng Pyantryi] act well as arrow fodder, makeshift barricades, and overwhelming flood troops.

Navy: The sea is too big right now. Call again in a couple of centuries. The Thai Chau [Great River], on the other hand, is perfectly navigable. In fact, the High King himself has commissioned a singular "war barge" of sorts (really not much more than a cute display of wealth and power) and regularly sails up and down the Thai Chau, presenting his Majestic and Celestial Presence to his subjects.

Economy: You want rice? We got rice. Not much else, but we have rice. Oh, and a few trinkets and odd gemstones come up on occasion. We also have fish, but mainly rice! But apart from rice, our other main products are timber, rice, sugar, rice, ceramics, and rice.

Religion: There is no God but the Most Heavenly and RIghteous High King, Whose Glory and Power we all Bask in and Praise.

Stability: There is no instability in the land ruled by the Most Heavenly and Righteous High King, Whose Glory and Power we all Bask in and Praise.

Gah. So many requests for Blacks/Light Whites/Greys. THOSE ARE BARBARIC COLORS!

Map mostly done. I WILL UPDATE ON SCHEDULE DAMNIT.

This is a horrible map. I should be sad to have posted this.

This is what you guys get when you call for spots WITHOUT maps. :3

Please give any suggestions and stuff and I will add it in tomorrow night. My birthday reverse-present for y'all!

Your Role Playing Challenge is to name and describe your neighbors! If you don't have any major neighbors yet, propose some. Maybe you and another player name and describe them differently: that is totally fine! Maybe your cultures have different perceptions and names for the same people, or two peoples share the same land.

Spoiler Update 0 Map A :

EDIT: Bair the Normal's.... something and Siam are confirmed to be a individual cradle.

That Egyptian State is called Musuru.

Any players are free to A) Claim an NPC and mold it as they wish B) Claim a spot currently held by an NPC and do whatever you want with it or C) start a new place, as long as they get another player to start there with them. Players > NPCs! Also, I need reserves.

The Kingdom of Maraca is a city-state. Maraca is the largest city for miles and miles, and as such holds a degree of primacy. Nearby villages, both settled by Maraca subjects and not, pay tribute, forming most of the kingdom's small territorial reach. The largest cities of which Maraca is aware are: Warramol, some distance east along the coast; Begum, slightly nearer west along the coast, and three towns inland. Maraca, however, is twice the size of the next largest.

Warramol, about half the size of Maraca, trades primarily in cloth spun from local flax-type plants. Its present ruler is an extremely pious man, but has no head for intermunicipal politics.

Begum is slightly smaller than Warramol, and has a bustling merchant navy. It functions as the stopover between Maraca and its neighbours, and river peoples to the northwest.

The three towns to the north, Dalangad, Sangar, and Porrol, lie on the river. They are in a loose league which opposes Maraca over the plains between them. At present, competent leadership by the king of Sangar is outdone by petty bickering by the other two rulers, and they are incrementally losing ground. The cities trade in several goods, exporting especially pottery and surplus food.

Lastly, Maraca. Maraca functions as a trade hub of sorts, rivaling Begum due to its size, site and situation at the center of the southern sea. Maraca artisans are known for their talent for construction with both wood and, when available - which is rarely - stone. In addition, Maraca is the premier location for the fermenting of grains into alcohol. The army extracts tribute from villages to the north, and periodically skirmishes with parties coming down from the river cities for the same purpose. The disputed zone fluctuates depending on the exact position of the constantly-moving armies, but half the time lies between 45 and 60% of the way from Maraca to the river, so that is the best estimate for an outside observer.

There are isolated fishing villages on the islands to the south as far as we know.

In dark green on this peculiarly futuristic map is our Most Glorious Celestial Kingdom of Yanawratharyedynwlin. Despite the fact that our High King is the Only and Greatest God and Ruler of Our Great Peoples, there do exist some outlying states. Pay them no mind, as they are either unwilling or unable to submit to the will of the High King, and are thus lower than dirt!

Oh, but you want me to describe them? Fine, I will.

Our Grand Capital City of Kyaunpyawngadaw Rangyigon Ngathaichau Yriyankrungyi Yrimnpyawray Ryawngdawmyawngey Yri Yanawratharyedynlwin lies at the mouth of the Thai Chau, the Greatest, Purest, and Most Heavenly River on Earth! But above our lands, there exist two other entities, petty kingdoms of sorts, who center their entire existences on the Thai Chau. They cling like parasites to the Great River, and periodically, our Most Celestial Kingdom must give some encouragement to... brush them off.

The closer state to us is the Confederation of Myentalapuringaw. They rule themselves in an extremely amusing and pitiful way. Lost from the Light of the Kyaunthai Ngawang Shaw Ytou Ngadaw Mnaupyadawgyi Pyaw Doutsengryin, these people rely on a coalition of supposedly smart people that regular peasants choose! They call these silly processes elections, where every peasant in the country is expected to choose from amongst themselves a group of four people who will lead them for the next ten years. Imagine the disastrous consequences of having not one, but four people not of the Great Mnkrungyichau Dynasty attempting to rule a state! Nonetheless, the Four Dictators center themselves in their capital city of Yadangomandara, a city touted as grand, and sprawling, but little more than half the size of Kyaunpyawngadaw, really. Nonetheless, I will admit that Yadangomandara is the center of gem and precious metal production and distribution in the area. They can sell some fine gems.

North of them are the dirtiest of the dirty northern folks. They apparently style themselves celestial, seeing as they came from a collection of high hills even farther north. As if. Their own Kingdom of Chyangphyawngari also has the nerve to leach off the Thai Chau. Nevertheless, despite being farther north than Myentalapuringaw, they have the sense to give themselves a monarchy, and are smart enough to not call their own "king" a God like Our Own. Nonetheless, there is, like Myentalapuringaw, one good thing about Chyangphyawngari. Their capital city of Mgutkyinawngo lies atop the largest jade mine in all Mrangama, which sure nets them a pretty income. I'm actually not ashamed to admit that we buy their jade in order to make our own temples and jewelry even more grandiose.

Farther east of us, at the mouth of a dirty and weak river called Thangawyaun, there exists a similar, but very different state to us. We both lie at the mouth of a river, we both rely on rice to support our economies and livelihoods, we both rely on rivers for transportation and trade, and we both consider ourselves to be the top of the world. The thing is, we're right, and they're not. The so-called High (but really Low) Kingdom of Malwayngamaeangi is a pitiful state, lowest of the low. It is a known fact that our current Thang Ngawang wishes to crush this state into oblivion, and to incorporate its people to be our slaves. If that were to happen, His people would be much obliged. To the north of Malwayngamaeangi is quite a mysterious state that has much to offer to the Celestial Kingdom. The Shyam Kingdom, a state hidden high in the hills of the north-east, is an isolated state, far from the Celestial Kingdom. Nevertheless, tales have spread of their military prowess, great wealth, and extreme simple-mindedness. If they can be manipulated for the purpose of the Thang Ngawang, they might be able to prove a huge asset (mainly against Malwayngamaeangi).

To the west of Myentalapuringaw lies a weak, small, but rich coastal state. The Duchy of Ngrakhaeng grows rich from connecting East to West, or so they say. In reality, they only act as the client state connecting Us to Them. Still, I hate to admit that their capital city, Kyaukngapauyiu, which is really the only thing to note about them, is actually a decently sized city, with plenty of ports and harbors for ships (mainly their own) to dock at. Despite connecting us with the West, and despite our heavy and deep gratitude to them, they spit in our faces and call us weak, only because we don't have boats. The sheer nerve of them! One day, once we build our navy... They'll be sorry. But farther to the south, there exists a similar state to Ngrakhaeng. The island City-State of Khaeyangar Khyung has built an extremely centralized and rich, though still weaker and poorer than our own Celestial Kingdom, of course, state, extending their reach far into the mainland. They garner most of their riches from trade, of course, connecting us with supposedly rich and exotic nations farther south. Unlike Ngrakhaeng, though, Khaeyangar Khyung has maintained a pleasant rapport with all the Thang Ngawang they have met since their conception as a state. Indeed, Khaeyangar Khyung is one of the few, but first client states our Proud Kingdom has under Its Domain.

Tales from both Shyamnga and Khaeyangar Khyung flow to Kyaunpyawngadaw, distorted, but many in number, about a wonderous land far to the east and south. A land of warriors wearing (rather silly) feathers, a land of several exotic resources, a land of riches. A land known as Syaingawmgarn.

OOC: Go bias! Also, Siam. :P

I think you got my intended place on the map wrong.... I was thinking something around that island to the west of Finland and the land slightly inland from there. Oh well.

The Ostrian Despot sighed, once again the history of the country repeats once more. The rebeliation is right now charging into the palace, looting and destroying what little peaceful culture Ostrina had. What little of the Despot's family retreated to the sea, over to the 'Grand Terra Longboat', those who didn't were slain like animals by the 'Republican' armies. He stared over at the door out of his room, waiting for the civil barbarians to slay him as well, and end this nightmare...

The revolution is over, and the Ostrian Republic is once more! The greatest leader of the Republican army, Lucas Otto, has been declared the Volks-König. The Volks-König is the title granted to the leader of the Republic, in which they have total control over the Republic from the grand nobles to the lowest slaves. Otto's first request was that after overthrowing of the scum within, the conquest of the foreign scum who lives outside is the next step, as those lands belong to not the filthy barbarians of tribal huts, but to Ostrina!

*Convert all of the Ostrian Kingdom's territory to the Ostrian Republic*
*Convert parts of the barbarian territory bordering the Ostrian Republic to the latter*

Question: Are the NPCs around me the cities of Hakra and Mehrgarh? because if so, they should be under my control. If not, then RP follows.

Also to finish my signup post with my cultural description, which I unfortunately never finished:
Useful Notes 5: Gender and Sexuality The people of the Indus valley started out highly patriarchal. This is evident in that the traditional role of chief must be held by a man, and in that, while a man having many wives is common, polyandry is much rarer. However, the real position of power, High Priests can be held by men or women, due to a historical accident. The elders councils, which later became high priests, were just the oldest and wisest members of the tribe, often women. As priests acquired more and more power, they did so regardless of gender. Hence, unusually for its age, much power is actually held by women in Ghaggar.

The same is not true of Ghaggar's Vedic allies, who maintain their ancestral patriarchal ways.

Despite this, other aspects of Ghaggarian society are highly traditionalist. Homosexuality is regarded by the priesthood as a deviation, spawned from the influence of the chaos, and hence is punishable by burning. For obscure historical reasons, adultery is punished, but divorces are actually fairly easy to get, with the blessing of the local priest.

Vedic society has a double standard in both divorce and adultery, in keeping with its patriarchal warlordship. Men can and routinely do acquire new wives and divorce them, but the vedics view it as unacceptable for a woman to divorce or have many husbands. The two different views have remained largely separate and constant despite the merger, because the two ethnicities live in separated districts and bow to different leaders (and sometimes, different gods, some vedics retain there ancestral faith).

has update 0 happened yet and is it time to send orders?

I'm not sure whether the map was meant to be update 0 or not.

The map is as update 0 as you guys will get.

Update will be in 26 hours. Orders due in 18 hours.

Orders MUST be in thread. MUST be clearly labeled. MUST have "stats" of some kind to mark comparative strength.

Players may contest each other's stats. If the defending player's argument is considered weak, I will provide judgement.

If you proposed NPC's and no other PC has changed them or are refuted by my map, assume they are on there and I was too busy to put them on yet.

Map update tonight.

Good Role Playing so far!

@ Spaceman: no idea what those two cities are. or where they are.

Barkindji Orders

Spoiler :
Stats-wise I'm going with a system of representing size or strength with a descriptor (for culture and economy: Non-existant -> Pitiful -> Poor -> Meagre -> Average -> Moderate -> Thriving -> Prosperous -> Wealth -> Dominant.
For military: Non-existant -> Pitiful -> Tiny -> Small -> Moderate -> Sizeable -> Large -> Huge.) as well as abstracting 'techs', as in, things along the path of modern civilisation that the culture has adopted and put into use in a way similar to how Civ does it. Some techs are qualified with a descriptor as to what these techs have been applied to.

*A species of freshwater crustacean which is edible and reportedly delicious. Still eaten today, by indigenous and non-indegenous people alike, who live near freshwater sources.
† Its hard to pin down the indigenous concept of the Dreamtime, especially given that there really aren't words in English to describe it properly and as a result most non-indigenous people like myself don't really grasp it properly, but the best way to explain it is as a sort of gigantic creation myth and geography textbook rolled into one. Various spirits roam the unformed world, changing it as they go with their actions and creating the landforms that we see today.

Orders

-Barkindji envoys, backed by their wealthy merchant fleets, sail upriver to the various villages further up the river, particularly those with closer trade links to the mountains where it is mined. These villages are convinced to join the Confederacy for protection against barbarian tribes and the growing might of the Wergaia Empire.
- Villagers among the Barkindji begin adding emu eggs to their diet, gathered from the wild emu birds that run free across the outback. Though dangerous, they eventually settle into a state of semi-coexistence with humans, being able to be lured away from their nests with food allowing their eggs to be eaten. Thus, the emu comes to be considered domesticated, allowing enterprising emu farms to spring up along the river basin and providing emu eggs as a part of the diet of the Barkindji civilisation.
- Large scale farming of the , or Warrigal Greens plant, begins in the farms of the Confederacy, helping to avoid scurvy in the population.
- The Elders of the Barkindji Confederacy convene, and, with the threat of the Wergaia growing from outside the valley, raise the levies that are normally called. The levies are armed with weapons, and called to fight if the Wergaia attack or invade, seeking to sack Widiwirri. The Elders also allow members of the council to be elevated to command of the levies individually, rather than having the entire council serve as a single commanding unit during previous engagements.

Orders for the Celestial Kingdom of Yanawratharyedynlwin

no moar WIP but stehl bad orders i is berry sory.

Spoiler :
Stats:
Celestial Kingdom of Yanawratharyedynlwin: Bair_the_Normal
Government: Religious Monarchy
Capital: Kyaunpyawngadaw Rangyigon Ngathaichau Yriyankrungyi Yrimnpyawray Ryawngdawmyawngey Yri Yanawratharyedynlwin
Size: Fun-sized
Culture: Respectable Glorious Under the Light of the High King
Economy: Weak [Based on rice; and foreign goods]
Religion: Kyaunthang Ngawangtyao*
Army: Strong central archer-based presence; occasionally some untrained Ngukng Pyantryi as well.
Navy: lolwut we have only 1 ship

*Literally Celestial High King Worship.

ORDERS:

The High King doesn't know how they got there, but the annoying "republicans" to His north must be punished swiftly and mercilessly. Myentalapuringaw, the Gem State centered in Yadangomandara, will justly and quickly fall to the might of the Rangpyaw Tsnryi Tsodnga Yri Thang Ngawang. The Thang Ngawang himself will see to it that the heads of the Four Dictators of Myentalapuringaw will be thrown into the very bottom of the Thai Chau as a worthy sacrifice to the Great River that Protects Us All, and will, upon the inevitable and most worthy victory of Yanawratharyedynlwin, take the former Myentalapuringaw-owned gem mines into his own care and demesne, and share the glorious profits with all the citizens of Yanawratharyedynlwin. The invasion of Myentalapuringaw shall basically consist of throwing our Ngukng Pyantryi at the enemy and then piling up the bodies to make cover for our archers.

Yanawratharyedynlwin needs even more rice. And although we can facilitate it all, the consistent flooding and monsoons around the Thai Chau are rather annoying for rice production, and actually daily life as well. As such, the Thang Ngawang sees it fit to detail the construction of several advanced [not really] and huge systems of dikes and canals to help control the flow of the Thai Chau, and to provide space for monsoon rains.

Basically the Thang Ngawang wants his peasants to build big ditches from the Thai Chau, as well as massive waterproofed [with patented elephant dung] entrances, able to be opened during flood or monsoon season.
