The American Mod

After a far too long hiatus from modding, I plan on returning as soon as I get a new mouse. As a bit of a teaser, I've started work on a scenario that will be titled "These Fractured States".

Does anybody have any ideas for UUs or UBs for the Southwest/Deseret? I'm a bit stumped right now and only have the Autoloading Rifle. Perhaps a Mormon Church instead of a Christian Temple? I feel as though that would be very restrictive though.

EDIT: I might throw in Apache Brave as well, but it's already a UU for Native America. I don't think it would be too big an issue though.

Hmnn, off the top of my head for UU; Posse ( the SW was notoriusly lawless)
UB; Boomtown ( mining + pop bonus)

Just as an amusing anecdote, you could probably make Tombstone a a national monument, or something special.

there are other tribes in that region, Pueblo come to mind off the top of my head. Think the commanche and the Shoshonie/Arapahoe were in that region as well, but it's been awhile and I may be a bit fuzzy on accuracy.

I would try your current progress for you but my antivirus decided that not enough people have downloaded it and it was "dangerous"

Similar to myself. Norton actually flashed red and stated that it blocked a "web attack"

...well my Avast says it should be fine. :badcomp:

Hmm, could it be because it's an .exe file from an unverified source? I can assure you there's nothing wrong with it, but that may be the issue.

Yes, that was it. It was just a PITA to get Norton to let me do what I wanted. My thx.

Ok, just a few questions/observations and this is in no way being critical. I'm actually enjoying playing your mod :).

1) Ok, is there a specific scenario map that places the civs to there origin? i.e. I'm playing cascadia on the USA2 map, and I started in the SW instead of the PACNW. Was curious if you had a map for this.

2) Rescources; why elephants? not that i'm complaining ( lol, well, not much), but wouldn't bison, deer, antelope, even jackalopes be more appropriate?

3) Are you planning on incorporating usable mountains into your mod? I find that this add-on ( fm ROM AND I believe) adds considerable enjoyment when playing, and may prove useful in your mod, especially considering how many mountains the USA has.

4) Similar situation with Advanced Diplomacy options. Given that you have so many NA civs, it may prove interesting to add this feature to your mod.

5) Just because i'm curious, are you planning on keeping the normal civics that you currently have? or do you have some devious plan involved in perhaps changing things a bit.

Overall, I'm really enjoying your mod so far, and find the concept interesting and wish you well on the continuation of your project :goodjob:. I look forward to your next installment.

1. Don't worry, with the next version, there's going to be a "These Fractured States" scenario and I can also make one with historic starts.

2. Elephants because I'm not sure how to vhange resources, but I'll look into it.

3&4. I have zero experience with the DLL, so don't expect anything from me any time soon, if at all. If somebody else were to merge and troubleshoot, I wouldn't be opposed to adding another download.

5. I've been thinking about changing mostly just the names, but also minor balance and flavor changes.

Thanks for the feedback! Keep it coming!

Out of curiosity, what leaders, UUs, and UBs do you currently have for all your civs?

Gee, there's a lot, there's an average of 5 or so leaders per civ, with 22 civs, so that's like 110 leaders, and I really don't want to list them all (sorry).

Here's an incomplete list of UUs, it's incomplete because I'm only looking at the most commonly replaced units (once again, it's just a pain to look at each civilopedia entry, there's 66 in all.)

Rifleman replacements:
Redcoat
Union Soldier
Confederate Soldier
Patriot Sniper (should probably be changed to "sharpshooter")
Iron Brigade
California Battalion
Autoloading Rifle

Musketman
Minuteman
Rebel Conscript
Fort Garrison
Fabian Infantry

Cavalry:
Rough Riders
Confederate Cavalry
Peacemaker
Texas Ranger

Cuirassier
Apache Brave
Robber Baron
Californio Lancero

As for UBs, they're quite across the board, and once again, I'm forced to apologize for my laziness, but it'd be quite tedious to look into each civ's civilopedia entry for the info.

That being said, the best way to find this information is probably to download the mod, I'll try to get a more complete list up tomorrow, but for now, I have some multiplayer civving to do.

Best wishes,
Radio

Here's some ideas:

UUs: Hippie, Talent Scout, and something else. UBs: Film Studios, TV Studios, and Music Studios which would replace religious buildings)
*Conservatives (Led by Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, and Mitt Romney. UUs: Gun Enthusiast? I don't know. UBs: Conservative Talk Radio)

Leaders:

Emperor Norton I for California
Spiro Agnew for New England
Billy Graham for Religious

Unique Buildings

Maple Syrup Distillery (or whatever it's called) for New England
Indian Reservation for Great Plains and Native Americans

Sorry I haven't responded in a while, been busy with holidays then an English essay.

Anyway, I like the ideas for criminals, as I'm missing many of them, however many of the other leaders are already in the mod in some way so they likely won't be included. However, your UU and UB ideas are great, and could provide some welcome variance to the otherwise rather homogenous replacements, after I finally finish leader civilopedia entries, I'll look into them.

Thanks for the feedback :)

I totally support Emperor Norton I as a leader for California.

RN, are you still working on this mod, or has it been abandoned?

Unfortunately, I've been quite busy irl and it doesn't look like that will die down anytime soon, so for all intents and purposes, it is dead.

EDIT: Although, if anybody is interested, I can post the current civilopedia entries I have done already

That might be good. I'll see if I can't get keldath to take a look at it. He's not busy enough with SOTM and Barsoom, so gotta up the ante a bit :mischief:

Hahahahahahaha! I knew you'd be interested.

Hmnnn. Let me think. Civ's? chk. Pedia? chk, Maps? chk. Crazy inventive modder showing interest? chk. Anyone wanna give me Vegas odds? :mischief:
