The Biggest, Baddest Unit

I for one can't wait till Civ V to come out and happy they added a :scan:future realistic unit and have pre-order my Civ V copy of $100. Besides it will be limited to resource, initial building cost and cost per turn. There is still more game info to be release so I am still looking foward to the new game info. Everyone including myself is going to have something they dislike and like about a game, we are never going to be completely happy with a game.:) :) :)

Could be good, could be crap. But for those saying "if you don't like it just don't build it", surely the AI will still be building them and so they'll still be involved...

This is a happy, happy day! :band:

I'd say we're a lot closer to building giant death robots than getting to Alpha Centauri. Your realism conplaints fall on death ears, naysayers.

Apparently, no one has ever won a space race victory because its more likely we will have GDR in some form before we ever go to Alpha Centauri.

Its funny how people will stretch their "suspension of disbelief" for one thing since it has been in since Civ1, but not some other thing that is new. :crazyeye:

I do love the blindness people seem to be showing. An automated, fusion-powered walking tank is infinitely more likely than us building a FTL drive, a self-sustaining colony ship, and then leaving to settle another star system!

Indeed, people seem to ignore that.

This is :):):):):):):):).

What kind of idiot would want giant death robots in a civ game?! Well it doesnt matter because the one who putted them in the game must be even a bigger idiot!

Maybe in Civ 6 we have a Giant Pile of :):):):) unit floating around the earth and sometimes even in space with strength of billion just because some idiot asked for it because even a Giant Death Robot wasnt "extreme" enough for him.

I really hope you're joking...

No i am not.

GDR is a stupid stupid idea for vanilla version of the game. I dont understand what would you guys loose if those GDR were to be put in some scenario or something like that and not in vanilla.

IMO, GDRs are way too extreme/scifi for vanilla version, im NOT talking about realism im just saying that no GDRs for my civ game thank you. But sadly it looks like the basic gamer has to mod them out (if they know how to) so that these :scan: guys can have theyr crappy GDRs.

GDRs in vanilla civ is just very stupid idea :(

EDIT: Now we get futuristic Giant Death Robots so whats next? Magical elve units in vanilla version of civ6? If you want to play civ6 without those magical units you must mod em out? I dont care about some techs or some wonder that are futuristic, that is fine by me, but what i DONT want is go to war with futuristic robot units. Im not annoyed about the realism, im annoyed about those GIANT f k n DEATH ROBOTS wich IMO, doesnt belong in vanilla version at all!

I do hope that GDR vs GDR battles come with cinematics xP
Overall, I love the idea of GDRs, it sounds perfectly plausible to me.

The thing that bothers me more is the religion thing, which I'm unsure of, but that doesn't belong to this thread.

As some people said, you can just mod the GDRs out.

When I first saw the GDR post I thought it was a joke. I wish Firaxis would make better use of their time.

Now we get futuristic Giant Death Robots so whats next?

Let me think about it for a second......

I know! How about space flight to Alpha Centauri? I bet THAT's realistic eh? :mischief:

Well that was clever :)

But sadly i think you missed this:

Oh wait a minute! Was there a rule that if Alpha Centauri is ok for me then i must also like GDRs in vanilla civ?

I for one, think the GDR is a great idea. Socialism will always triumph over capitalism and I'm just happy Firaxis agrees and are willing to make their beliefs known.

Godspeed, East Germany! :goodjob:

Oh... ahem... I mean... I like the killbot :p

Giant Death Robots succumb easily to Fairly Ordinary Tank or Remotely Accurate Missile.

I don't like the inclusion of this weird unit in the game. Oh well. I guess it satisfies some, but I won't have to see much of this unrealistic cartoon unit, since I'm going to be most involved with the Middle Ages myself.

However, I bet they have reverted resources and energy from making serious, good stuff in the Middle Ages and all other real historical eras, into making the sort of weirdness that the Super robot represents. Therefore I cannot see why people are so turned on about the inclusion of it either; since it obviously sucks some of the historical realism out of the other, real eras as they give us this, instead of some real units.

This unit uses uranium yet apparently uses a fusion reactor. Explain that one.

It has armour needing uranium:

And weapons needing uranium:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M242#Ammunition

I will mod this out immediately, problem solved.

Yeah, too much awesome is a real problem for some people.

I don't see what your problem is with them. It's just a unit.

And powered exoskeletons and robotic assistants have existed for years. There's one, BigDog, which is designed for the military. How long till they put a gun on it? Probably last week. ;)

So if I understand you, you don't dislike GDR because they are unrealistic, or because they are too futuristic or because they're not good tactically. You just don't like them because you don't like them. That's some really good reasoning, but you might want to be a little bit more rational if you want to convince people. If you don't want to try to bring people to your point of view, then fair enough, but them I see little reason in posting about it several times.

I really hope they remove archers from the game because I really dislike f k n archers! They don't belong in vanilla version at all!
