(If you don't need to lose weight, don't bother)

Ok, so who remembers the "How heavy are you?" thread from a while back?

I do (probably because I created it, but whatever). After searching for the thread, I found out that 40 of us were either overweight or obese. So I decided, hey, why not try to help everyone out?

I've already asked a moderator about this, and he said it was fine. I'm not exactly sure what we're going to do, but I'll try to start it out:

Starting July 1st, you'll post your height/weight. Then, once a week, you will PM me/repost it, bringing it to my attention (if you're embarrassed about posting your weight, that should be even more of a motivation for you to lose it!). The challenge will end August 1st.

Now, on to the "I need help with losing weight part"(I made this all myself, I didn't take it from any website). This is what you should refer to.

DO:
- Eat breakfast right when you wake up; it will jump-start your metabolism
- Eat a High-Carb and High-Protein Breakfast (Like Oatmeal with Tuna on the side)
- Drink at least 48 oz. of water every day; NOT soda, NOT juice, just plain water. It flushes out your fat. You will notice that you're going to gain weight those first couple days, because of your gained water weight.
- Eat Dinner around 3 hours before you go to bed

DON’T:
- Eat snacks after dinner, unless it's a low-cal vegetable, like celery, lettuce, or carrots (no dipping)
- Eat cereal with high amounts of sugar in it
- Eat foods with a lot of Trans-Fats and High Fructose Corn Syrup
- Eat Power Bars or Drink Energy Drinks with high amounts of sugar in them

MORE TIPS:
- Clean out all of the junk food in your house (make sure you ask your family/parents/spouse if you can do it first!)
- To lose weight, Eat 10~12 calories per lb. of body weight (150lbs=1500-1700 calories), no more than 2600 for anyone weighing over than 260 lbs, no less than 1500 for anyone weighing under 150 lbs.
- Always Remember: What has night eating and junk food done for you? Nothing! If you eat poorly, it won’t do anything good for you
Remember: You might want to consult a doctor before changing your habits, especially the part in italics. Eating low amounts of calories is not good for you.

Physical Health Tips said:
- Get off your butt and exercise! -skadistic
-Get a gym membership. If you can't, at least buy a few weights!
-Do your cardiovascular exercises after dinner: take a walk/jog, go to the gym, swim, etc. This will help move that fat through your arteries.
-Try to do those Cardiovascular excercises every day
-Try to work out with weights 2-3 times per week

This could be an example of what a good meal plan is (This is what I'm starting to follow:
Breakfast: High Protein, High Carbs, no more than 600 calories, avoid grease
Ex: Egg Sandwich; Oatmeal and Tuna Fish
Snack: Anything low in Calories and Sugar
Ex: Baby Carrots; Crackers; Beef Jerky
Lunch: Salad or Sandwich with a Vegetable
Ex: Turkey Sandwich with Green Beans; Salad with low amount of dressing
Snack: Fruit
Ex: Fruit Cocktail; Orange; Banana; Grapes; or any 2 fruits
Dinner: Anything fairly healthy under 800 calories, no fast food
Ex: Grilled Chicken w/ Mashed Potatoes; Steak w/ Corn; Fish w/ Asparagus; for desert, have one fruit item (Apple; Banana; etc)
(Consult a doctor)

Alright, back to the "Challenge" part. What do you win? A healthier you. The reason I'm posting it all, is so that we can try and outdo eachother. Whoever loses the highest percentage of weightgets their name at the top of this post, everyone else gets their name just at the top, no bold.

I'm giving you all a couple days to prepare...take pictures, clean out your house, etc...it might be a good idea to take before/after pictures, but just for yourself.

So, that's it. PM me if you'd like to join.

It's a nice idea but i dont really need too/want to take part :) no offense.
No problem :) if you don't need to lose weight, you can pretty much ignore this thread, unless you want to give some helpful tips.

Under your do's list you need to add things like get off your butt and excersise. I know its under more tips but lose of pounds comes from burning excess off more then limiting new intake.

I am 275 now and I was 360 last August 23rd ...so Your on :king:

BTW very good tipsI agree whole heartedly

No offense intended GoldEagle, but are you trying to mock us fat boys with your fancy 6'1" and 165 lbs? ;)

I am currently trying to lose weight (5'10" 203 lbs and beating the ladies away with a stick  ) but I'm going for a lowly 1lb a week target so I don't think I'll bother with the contest. Nice idea though!

GoldEagle, your BMI is 21.8, That is normal. You don't need to lose weight, but maybe gain weight by converting fat into muscle.

For myself, I am game, as I do have a paunch and this might just help me regularly exercise. 6'1" 190 BMI=25

Marshy, you have the right idea. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week at most

Okay yeah I had surgery but my stomic wasn't cut at all and it is very safe (about one in 1,500 death rate ...allmost all ways due to neglegence compared to 1.5% in gastric bypass    )

I highly recomend it but the stuff I have read show not everyone losing weight on it because if you drink soda and eat ice cream all day (foods that pass threw easily) you can still gain weight but the fact of the matter is I've been eating 2,000 calories a day (give or take 400 if I go over one day I'll go under the next)

It makes you eat much slower (because otherwise the food won't fit)
Less hungry ...I dunno maybe the nerves are attached at the top of the stomic

:goodjob:

That's what I'm trying to do.

If I were not too lazy to exercize, I would do it. Right now I eat oatmeal for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch, but I only eat dinner about every other night as my fatigue sometimes overpowers my hunger. I haven't actually weighed myself with an accurate scale in quite some time and have no idea what I weigh.

I would like to wish good luck to all the participants and I hope you guys will be able to get to your desired weight. :)

I wont participate cuz I don't need to loose wight I need to Gain some :(

I have a tip for all of you. Eat lots of fiber!

If you need to gain some, eat 3000 calories/day, and eat over 500 of those about 15 minutes before you go to bed. Also try not to exercise.

And the fiber will help...uhh..."clear out" your bowel movements ;) so eat lots of Raisin Bran ;)

If i was fat, then i would.

I'm not fat, but I wouldn't. The problem with collective initiatives as this one is that it leverages the amount of individual failures. Let me explain, before some of you raise their Marx Capital :
The aim in such a project is personnal, it differs much from one individual to another. Making it collective is not very rational from the start.
But above that (and this is experienced by your servitor several times while stoping cigs and other stuf) : When the first of the group abdicates the other wont feel too bad with abdicating too afterwards, so people abandon one after each other. This pervert effects stops when there is very few people left on the pitch (~10%) that find another motivation than the original one : "I'm better than all these guys, I'll prove them."
Besides, I think making it common tends to point out even more the "sacrifice" aspect of the diet, thus relying only on the will of each participant. One can hardly count on it's very will 100% of the time in front of envy, multiply this occurence bythe number of participant and you get your 90% of failure.
 Sorry to be rude

Good luck to all of you ! :)

I think I tried everythink in the OP backwards and I've done it for years now and I still stay at 145 lbs. I think in my condition its genetics that keep me that way.

BTW I always eat my "huge greacy breakfast" 15 mins before going to bed.

That's rather bad for your digestive system (eating just before bed) IIRC.
What's that huge greacy breakfast (souper) ?

I have to disagree with you.

My GF did the exact same thing on her "new mothers" forum with exellent results for her and for a lot of the other posters on her forum. I know the results were good because they met a couple times while doing the challenge. so they could not lie to each other.
The being in group part helps those with low .... ehhh .. body estime. When one suceeds it help the others get more confidence that they can do it too. My gf tried for a year to loose wight alone but did not succeed. When her forum contest started she started to shed pound after pound. Tips from the others help alot too, one is limited by what he knows, in a group he can learn from the others and vice-versa.

I trust these guys to succeed, sure some of them wont, but all in all its a good initiative and you sound more fatalist than anything else, cheer them on instead of telling them that groups dont work and Leverage amount of faliure.
