Here's a question...
I've seen people from the pro-USSR side or "non-committed" types, which means (to me), pro-USSR, state that you cannot judge the USSR any more than the USA. Both were equally bad.

So, as a simple litmus test for this...
Where would you have rather lived in 1972?
Why?

I went with USA, because it was separated from Europe and the threat of immediate invasion from the USSR... and I would prefer not to be rounded up by the Stazi or KGB for "dissidence". (Nowadays I would choose Europe!)

Not in USSR- unless my name was Gorbachev and I was the First Party Secretary of the Stavropol Kraikom.

Ew, the seventies?

What a stupid poll to prove a stupid point that is not even related.

Lol. Calling out both the USSR and the United States for it's bloodied hands in the Cold War is being Pro-USSR?

At what point did I got back to 1950?

The Soviets won in the end by deciding to drill into Lake Vostock which was realized years after the dissolution fo the union but resulted in the release of ancient microrganisms that wiped out all human life by December 21, 2112.

I wanna be in the USSR, as long as I get to be in a position of power. :D

Lol... thanks for your cutting edge commentary! It has added a lot.

You want commentary? Go back to the Ronald Reagan thread where I called you for hypocrisy.

(Or better yet, bring it here since this is topic relevant)

If I might just point out...

This is about the 5th time this question (or, a form of it) has been posted in about the span of an hour.

Regardless...

As I have never shown any love for the soviet method of rule I will remain in the USA thank you very much.

Where you failed, you mean to say...

Says the man who didn't respond to my post. No.244. Start addressing points and stop just dropping them just because they don't fit in you McCartyian view.

Why does not wanting to live in the USSR make me Pro-USA? Are we trapped in some Star Wars ep. 3 version of politics now?

Is the OP trying to deny that both side were involved in some very shady dealings?

Western Europe because I am a European Nationalist.

If it was a few years later (late 70s/early 80s) then Yugoslavia for the awesome punk rock.

Actually, thinking about it, my love for comedy means that Western Europe is kinda the lamer option during this period. Overt Liberalism (i.e. "the West", Capitalist nations) just doesn't provide the same comedy basis as Covert Liberalism (i.e. the Eastern Bloc).

USA!!!! Of course during that time Disco was starting to kick in and defense contractors are hiring like crazy!

The first genetically modified organism was created in 1972 by Paul Berg at Stanford. What an exciting time to be a biologist in the US, to witness the dawn of the field of genetic engineering. Whereas the Soviet biological research community would probably still be reeling from the effects of Lysenkoism.

Western Europe (West Germany, France, Spain, etc)
Does Kochman realise that Spain was a military dictatorship in 1972, or does he just have a particularly low opinion of Edward Heath? There's some untenable generalisations in every category, but this is frankly taking the piss.
