The drawing thread

Here's my attempt at animating my earlier shuckle (plus i changed the lighting a bit).

It's not a hundred percent done yet.

Is it a wacom? I find that sometimes the nib gets a little stuck. Give it a pull and a jiggle and it should be working fine again. I can confirm this works on the Graphire 4, but I don't know about the newer tablets.

I have a Wacom Bamboo. The pen does get stuck sometimes, but the main problem I have is that the pen itself is hard to hold. I can hold a normal pencil for hours without problems, but holding the pen starts to hurt after a few minutes. Another problem is that using the tablet exaggerates all the mistakes I make because I can't keep the pen perfectly steady.

Mine is an Adesso. Not sure if that is relevant...

All I know is tablets are good for training hand-eye coordination since many of them don't seem to wanna draw the picture on there for you. :p

A quick pic of Lightning Lynx, aka Lord Raiju, for IOT IX. Basically just showing off his bandana, with the symbolic lightning bolts and red chaos emerald visible.

Black and red outfit for the win!

But the lack of it gives it a weird feel, which suits the 'theme' of the drawing.

Outlandish if you want. But I didn't mean anything bad by weird.

Here's an update and comparison with an older picture:

Recent update (still not a finished, not a 100% happy with it yet!)

Until I'm able to actually get back to drawing the Sonic Shift project, I've been designing some of its canon-exclusive characters. This is supposed to be the leader of the Green Hill Freedom Fighters. But, woe is me, I can't decide whether his fur should be the tan or the white. The tan is a good blend of brown and white, since my goal was to make him reference Kogenta from Onmyou Taisenki and Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank.

Granted, I kind of failed on that second part barring the tail but hey feline is feline right?

Name suggestions are welcome, though since Green Hill is located in Southeast Asia culturally, most of the GHFF's names should be Thai or Vietnamese or the like.

Spoiler :

The four members of the Green Hill FF.

From left to right:

-Group Physician; was designed with Mario in mind for hilarious irony.

-Group Scout; a rabbit with lynx genes, was designed with Klonoa and King Kazma in mind. Top speed is about 60 mph. Impressive for the team but kind of sucks compared to Lightning's 300 or Sonic's 770+.

-Group Leader; a lion/tiger hybrid. A second-generation immigrant from the Dragon Kingdom, his capability to lead is obscured by his relaxed, goofy nature. He likes to play on stereotypes about his homeland for laughs. Case in point: everyone expects him to be so formal and reserved due to the nature of Dragon culture, but he dashes those expectations quick. Notably has not lost a single friend or family member to the Imperial regime; he believes a true hero feels a need to fight evil long before it has personally wronged him. Designed with Kogenta and Ratchet in mind oh god I failed horribly.

-Bazooka Bandicoot; group weapons expert, muscle, and weapons designer. A pacifist, he tries to find weapons to minimise civilian casualties and maximise damage to Imperial forces. Also the only member of the group thus named. Received a serious re-design from this; he is less clunky looking but still gives off the gentle giant vibe. Designed with Crunch and Crash Bandicoot in mind.

As a note, the names chosen are not birth names, but are war names donned to protect the families of the rebels. I assume they know how corny their chosen names are and have made it a "requriement" of sorts. Case in point. I've thought of naming the physician "Veteran Marian."

The far left guy looks like this guy:

The Group Physician even has that Weegee stare!! :p

If you wanted him to look like Mario, you could have made him more chubbier (Not Robotnik chubby, but pudgy enough to have a beer belly) and more bumbs on the bottom part of his stash along with a big olde nose ;).

On one of the few upbeat notes of this week, I've started the slow path towards Inkscape mastery. Guess I'll start posting once I've figured out how to draw adecent kitten.

Some mighty fine drawering, eh?

Of course, need you ask? Found 'em on Geekologie.
I suggest using the calligraphy tool with just 0-2 mass, and adjusting pressure to the point that you feel confident enough that you can vary line thickness
I've been doodling around, an interesting feature is that -unlike GIMP- you can draw a couple circles to keep in mind where body parts should go -if drawing a scene with many characters- and then draw only the visible parts.
Much like I sometimes do when drawing by hand.

tailless, I love your style, I can even forget they're my hated underfed-horse enemies!
