The drawing thread

I am! I only do portraits.

Man, what I would give to be able to do a portrait... I think I'll stick to coloring in lineart in a vaguely/totally cartoony style.

It's definitely great fun. You know, I play piano, and it's great also...but I can't capture peoples' essences with music like I can with a picture. I always felt I was missing something when I played...so I started teaching myself.

There is something so satisfying capturing the emotion present in a face, whether that be a beautiful woman or grizzled veteran...it's definitely hard to explain.

You're doing very well, especially freehand like that. I do my portraits from a photo reference.

The bookmark's for the tutorials, this thread I'm already subscribed to, Mr. Amateur turtle-samurai.

I just doodled a Superfast Jellyfish in GIMP.

I took a this biplane sketch and colored it!

Spoiler The Process :

First I got rid of all the faint lines showing everything's position under the visible structure

Then I colored

And then I shaded and highlighted

I'd need a DeviantART account first. ;)

That would be cool. Easier to spread ideas and such.

Oh, and nice plane. Very cartoony (especially because it doesn't look like any WWI American biplanes I'm aware of.)

Yeah, it did come out cartoony, I think it looks kind of like clip-art. I thought that the olive drab would be a bit darker, and the plane wasn't actually based off any real model that I could tell.

And the deviantART thing, I'd have to sign up as well.

EDIT: I just found this online, my picture must have been part of a step-by-step to draw a biplane.

EDIT 2: Any tips on sketching, I'd like to get better, and general tips could be helpful, here's a sketch I scanned, then used paths to trace the lines and color.

My friend wanted me to color in Stephen Colbert line art. I couldn't find any line art so I made my own and colored it, and added a Colbert-approved background.

Well, once again, I don't like outlining figures. I contrast light/dark.

LOTS more shading. Up the contrast and lighten the image.

Here's some more crap from me:

Here's a better version with differing colours!

With the help of a tutorial i made the base sprite, and then deviated (applies to the previous two pics as well!)

fc, judging by the stuff you post in this thread, the improvement you've made is crazy.

This pretty much.

I'm hoping to improve my art, but it's still along way of from being decent
