Every human being has dreams, and quite often, those dreams involve moving to a different area of the nation or the world for various purposes.
Do you have that dream of migrating somewhere else ? Or have you had those dreams in your young days and what became of them ?
And most imporantly, why ?

---

Personally, I really want to move to any US state east of the Rocky Mountains or Australia within 3 years after graduation.
There are lots of reasons for me to consider the move actually.
Economically and politically, I see a darker future for Europe than for the US or Australia because the aging population will most definately strain our economies due to the expensive social security programs than can't be overturned easily thanks to national labor union strikes to extort the governments. In a less socialist economy with a far less powerful union culture those problems will also arise, but not to the same extent.
Ofcourse, the weather is a second reason and we all know that nortern-western Europe isn't the place to be for good weather ;)
Also, culturally, I think the more conservative nations are better fit for me than the highly liberal social views reigning over western Europe. That's a personnal choice, nothing more. Though I do consider some areas of the US too conservative, every region in the modern world will continue to get more liberal so that problem will get smaller. Over here, it is going a bit too far in my opinion and I really wonder what ever happened to ethics and morality.
Lastly, that conservative thinking also implies a more conservative view on the family life and even though divorce rates are high in the US and Australia, over here there are 3 divorces for every 4 marriages and very few children (1.55 per family on average, compared to 2.2 in the US)
I still have that ideal dream of a 4 or 5 person family and no divorces ... the odds of that ever happening are higher elsewhere.

But there's a downside ofcourse. Less taxes mean higher medical care prices and expensive college fees. Especially the latter is one point of concern for me, as I'm used to pay no more than 500 € per year tuition for a top-notch college.

How about you ?

I lived all 18 years of my life in Massachusetts, and dealt with cold winters and a less-than-ideal political setting. I wanted to get out of the Northern part of the country and move to warmer climes, somewhere with a lower cost of living, perhaps. I didn't like the sentiment that private colleges were much better than public colleges, and became increasingly irritated when people would ask me why I wanted to go to Georgia Tech and not MIT.

Needless to say, here I am in Atlanta. I haven't really gotten involved in the political scene (although I'm convinced that the State of Georgia is run by Boss Hogg et al.), but the weather is far nicer, and that makes a heckuva lot of difference.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if my next move is West ("the American Dream"); but I'll stay in the South for at least a few more years before that happens.

As a young lad I figured I'd move somewhere big and fancy. Then I realized how much the Twin Cities pwn every other location in the world.
Excellent answer. I don't think anything could ever replace Minnesota.

I've lived all over the place. Europe, North America, South America.... I'm in North America currently but will move back to Southern Europe soon. Guess the grass is always greener on the other side ;) It's not an illusion for me though, I prefer to live in a latin culture.

I've been all over the country and I there's no place else that I would rather be than where I am, in California. If anything, I might want to move from the San Francisco area to San Diego. Sure other places have their advantages, but after awhile the glamor wears off and one might realize that living in Hawaii with 85º and humid with rain in the afternoon everyday could get monotonous after a month or so. Although it's not my favorite region politically I can make that sacrafice for the variety of things in California, be it in climate, lifestyles, politics, whatever.

I have dreamt going to Japan suring Autumn. Love the sight of Japan during that period and live and walk in the cool mountain area surronded by fog. Just that in my dream, i got lost and need to find direction by a mobile icecream seller, haha. weird.

I didn't mean a nightly dream, I meant a dream of life ;)

Funny though how the Americans usually want another place, but they never ever consider the world outside the borders :D

Its one of my dream of life too, to retire in Japan. But of coz, i will stay in Singapore for realistic reasons.

I would like to go back and see Bathurst and everywhere west of the Blue Mountains one day... Just the thought of those sunsets... it makes me want to  for longing...

hehe, totally, its funny to see the American sterotypes being fulfilled  .

My dream is pretty much identical to yours SonicX, with the same reasons and everything, but add climate to that. Thats why I want to go to California, the best climate in the world: They have seasons, but its mostly warm and not too humid, its perfect! Anyway, on monday I was accepted into a college in Michigan, the only college I applied to. I wanted Cali, but this college has a scholarship for Norwegians.

Oh, I got hung up on the "where do I want to live". If we're talking "life dream" I would want to be a great man of God, seeing many people come to the Lord, making an impact like the Apostles, the christian philosophers (Tertullian and the likes), Martin Luther and all the martyrs of course.

I had the climate as a reason too, but I choose east of the Rocky Mt's because I want the summer to be hot and the winter to be quite cold, while at the west coast, the seasonal differences are not that long.
But ofcourse, as western Europeans, I think we ALL want a better climate

One little thing though, Norwegian women are worth staying for a little longer

And the topic is about the dream of living somewhere else, so you were right in your first post ;)

Oh, ok thanks (I need more sleep, I cannot focus)
Yeah, you're right, there are always pro's AND con's, the American women being one of them. No offense to Americans, but your women cannot even compare with Norwegian and Swedish women. The few hot girls that I've got to know in America had either Norwegian or Swedish blood, except for one who had Armenian blood.

I want to immigrate to Australia, the pays better than any I get here, the women are hotter, fantastic beaches and financial/personal independence. All good reasons, I also signed up for green card lottery to the USA once, but thats just to keep my options open :D .

I'd like to move either back to Singapore or to Australia. In Singapore, people are very polite and well behaved and nothing out of the ordinary happens! Sure you get weird looks for having facial hair and the American schools are now fortresses in of themselves, but the transportation network is astounding, the feel of the city is amazing and besides, it's where I spent the totally awesome 80's! But Australia is just as cool because there's just a huge contrast between built up area and untamed wildlands. Plus I so want to ride that train that goes from the east coast to Perth. There's a line of railroad track that is precicely straight for miles and miles and miles. But in the end, both Singapore and Australia are right next door to Indonesia, which is where I plan to dump my mom in since she's always complaining about wanting to go back to Indonesia.
