The Drunk and After the Party thread and stuff.. 1

Don't tell me you mix gin and whiskey together!

But Jameson is a mighty fine tipple.

As is practically any single malt.

You can keep that Isle of Skye peat flavoured rubbish, though.

You know, I never understood people who claimed to be able to drink 10 or 20 pints of beer in a session. I always lost count after 5. And working out how much I'd drunk by seeing how much money I'd got left didn't work either. As I could never remember how much money I'd started with nor who else I'd bought beer for. Or who'd bought beer for me.

The beer is easy. I had four beers during the night.

It's the unknown amount of Soju and my 50-50 Jäger & Red Bull drinks which got me. As far as I know.

Nursing one of these after a long ass day.

Gin is great, btw. My go to mixed drink is a gin and soda. I'd do tonic but unnecessary sugar. Plus, more hipster :egypt:

Currently indulging myself:

2 Towns Cider House "The Bad Apple". 10.5% ABV. Tastes like red delicious apple, not too tart. Sort of like Martinelli's apple cider, except with alcohol! And it's from a local brewery that just started up about 2 years ago, so yay for supporting local bizness and all that.

what i was rolling with last night:

I've never tried Beefeater, but I've had some good times with Fleischmann's discount gin.

gin is pretty awesome.

I'm drinkin' Jameson. Goes good with tears lol.

Ahh, Jameson. I had way too much fun taking shot after shot of Jamie's for my 21st birthday, along with copious pints of microbrew. Oh, to be young again!

Never have drank it while in a teary mood however. Might have to try that.

I might have had Laphroaig before, I can't quite remember.

However, Oban and especially Lagavulin make some spectacular scotch!

I remember a time when I thought it would be impossible for me to black out just by drinking beer only. I think I started the evening with some 7-8% ABV microbrew, about 4 pints' worth. Then we started drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon, and the next thing I knew I was waking up the following afternoon.

Never had just gin and soda, but I'd recommend a gin rickey if you haven't tried it. IIRC it's gin, soda and then lime juice squeezed in. No sugar, just a subtle limey taste.:goodjob:

What's it taste like? The IBUs are quite low.

I've never had this beer, but maybe Perfy can vouch for this review:

Overall: Holy crap - the flavor profile is as impressive as the aroma is average. Just when I think it's just an amber ale with a French twist, it unfurls a few additional layers to my palate. It really is a beautiful beer, one that I'll definitely have to seek out in the future. (4.25)

3.9/5: The nose is like a cheese-eating surrender monkey; the flavor is like Charles De Gaulle

Anyway, moving right along:

Sierra Nevada "Torpedo Extra IPA" 7.2% ABV, IBU 65. One of my staple beers. Super hoppy taste with hints of pine, citrus and herbal flavors.

Medium bodied, malty, slightly sweet, enough hops to give it character.

Very drinkable, goes with everything.

Mostly though it's a better selection from the crappy liquor store next to my pharmacy.

Other beers Perf drinks some regularity:
New Belgium 1554
Session Lager
Guinness Foreign Extra Stout
Deschutes Fresh Squeezed
Surly Furious
Summit EPA

I like Chimay Blue, Gulden Draak and Duchesse de Bourgogne a lot too, But thems spendy.

Next somebody will buy one of their cars?

I always thought these were quite stylish myself.

French engineering is good, imo. Their knowledge of beer less so.

What? Can the French brew beer now?
Well this beer from a suburb of Chicago so it's American beer inspired by French beer.

But yeah, France can put out some good stuff, I mean they're next to Belgium, a little bit has to rub off.

Nah. The major beer brewery is at Saint Omer which is so next door to Belgium you might as well call it Belgium. And it's true that Belgium makes some fine bottled beers.

But none of their technique seems to have crossed the border. The Artois lot don't seem to do anything but churn out generic bland Budweiser type beers. (They're OK. But just as something to drink.)

A person can understand it, of course. The French are notorious wine-drinkers.
-------------------

Anyway, this is all besides the point I've been feeling the urge to make:

Bottled beers are a pale imitation of their draught elder cousins, imo. Even though some of them can be very good, you're generally (though not invariably) comparing a sterilized product with a living thing.
