The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I'm still loving this game. I also like the discussion in this thread, because there's actually some continuity. The official forums are useful, but topics disappear down the list in seconds because it's so busy.

Oh and do you guys know know where I can buy cheap house for all of my items? I'm carrying all the time at the limits, even that I have constantly Easy Burden spell on. It's not so shaby to notice that you couldn't pic cool enchanted sword from Oblivion gate just you had too much stuff to carry with

There's a cheap shack near the Imperial city - go to the market district, there's some economic office there you need to visit. Bravil also has a cheap house, I think you talk to the count.

And I have the same problem on the PC... Minus the load times, but it does freeze. And also it's almost sure to freeze after a long playing time when I try to exit the game. I had to reboot my PC a few times already. So that would indicate some problem in the code... I hope there will be a patch before I finish this.

It seems to be a fairly common problem for PC at least. I get the crash on exit about 2/3 of the time, and the 1/3 of the time it doesn't happen are usually the times when I don't play very long. But is your whole system freezing, or just the game? I've had this crashing on exit, and even on a couple rare occasion during the game when I've just pushed it too far, but it's always crashed to desktop. Windows itself has always been ok and I've never had to reboot (or been forced to).

Spoiler :
In terms of quality / price I think nothing beats Anvil but......

All cheap things are cheap for a reson. Still after a bit of hassle it's a great mansion only problem that Anvil is far from everywhere.

It seems it never freezes the whole system but there is a weird effect I can't get around. I can press Ctrl-Alt-Del and I see that Windows is reacting to that, because the cursor changes to an hourglass and so on. There even appears a square region of the screen where the mouse cursor is an arrow. It is the task manager window, but the problem is that I can't see it or click on anything in it, because the game screen is sort of overlayed over it in full screen mode....

There was one other game I had a simillar problem with, some demo though I can't remember which. With I was even playing mp3 music from the background AND I was downloading something. After the "freeze" the music kept going, and I left it sitting there for half an hour and even the download did complete ok - so the system seems to be completely ok, only the screen is sort of locked in showing the frozen game and there is no means to close the game process (at least I don't know any, though I'm by no means a Windows guru).

I tried all the task-switching, minimizing, closing shortcuts I know but to no avail. Maybe there is some other way to do this or minimize a full-screened application but I don't know it.

Sometimes Oblivion just crashes on exit with an "illegal operation" message and exists to the op. system, which is not a problem, but not always. :(

There are falling mines?Awesome I gotta find one.

Also the realm of Oblivion is dangerous.Landmines, falling rocks, wild plants, traps I could go on.....

And I was in one mage's dream :) Kind of reminded Max Payne dream worlds :D

I just checked house prices in few cities, damn min cost was 10K gold

Trapped in a painting? Mages dream?! Wow I didn't know Oblivion was that indepth!

Someone making this game had an obsession with painting.

Aside from the number of paintings there's so much painting utensils lying about in strangest places. Your average chest in a goblin cave seems to contain 50 Septims, a skull, a lockpick and a paitbrush

So far I've seen two quests directly dealing with paintings.

I've yet to see a chisel or a musical instrument for example, no, it's just brushes, brushes and then some more brushes. :hmm:

Can you give me a hint about where to go to try starting this quest? It sounds really neat!

I did the mage's dream quest. That one was fun, because you're not quite sure what's going on and whether the way the game plays in the 'regular' world of Oblivion still applies in the dream.

EolTheDarkElf, it sounds like your version of the exit bug is definitely different from mine. I usually get the "Illegal Operation" type of popup, then get asked whether I want to report it to Microsoft, etc. Then closing that popup leaves everything ok from there. Hopefully a patch will be out soon to fix all of these kinds of things.

I don't know if it's bug or not but there's a spell in Bruma what absorbs health 50pts and duration 10sec. It's magicka usage is 27pts and it costs 97 gold pieces IIRc :D You can buy it from mages guild.

Save before you do it, it can be very tricky.

I just noticed that you can enchant your weapons with portal stones, those you find from Oblivion Gates and shuts it down. Damn! I have to go to gate spree and enchant my items. You don't need soul gems or money used to make those items, rather nifty huh? :)

Did this ship with an editor like Morrow?
And are people playing around with it already?

I got the game, installed it, played the tutorial a bit...

No problems running it, nor error problems. :)

Grand Champion of Arena!!WOAHA!!!

The shack in Imperial City is only 2k gold. It's furnishing the house you buy that is really expensive.

I'm currently a level 14 Wood Elf. I've been taking my time leveling up (the icon telling me I can level up has been a constant item on my screen for about a week) since my Wood Elf is a wimp, so I'm focusing in on improving his magical skills (primarily conjuring, illusion, and alteration). I've been using invisibility spells like crazy since my character doesn't stand much of a chance toe to toe with most of the characters/monsters in the game. Just the other day I got mauled to death by a mountain lion and found out the hard way that the will-o-wisps are nasty SOB's.

This game has taken over my gaming time completely. I haven't touched another game since I got Oblivion.

I played Oblivion for six hours today. Doesn't matter how far I get, I have to start from the beginning every time I play.

Um. Save your games?

I think I play this way way way to much, I am already Listener to the Dark Brotherhood, Arch Mage of the Mages Guild, about half way threw the Fighters Guild, and a few quests away from being the leader of the Thieves Guild. Then again I haven't really done the main quest yet, I right before going to the Mythic Dawn shrine place somewhere west of Imperial.

But I am like 40 hours down, another 100 to go :p
