The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I hate Sancre tor. It's what stuffed up my mainquest. I should never ever open doors requiring locks with ~ unlock ever agian. :ack:

Alright I got through it. Now I just gotta destroy all of those gates for every damn city. I need more arrows!

Just a question, has anyone made a hand to hand player that survived the farther levels of the game? I mean the only combat is hand to hand

The game is easy if you know what you are doing.

You don't have to close them all... talk to Martin and you can move on. You'll just get fewer soldiers on your side during a later event.

Though you will definitely want to explore every single inch of the Chorrol gate though ;) *hint* *hint*

Difficult, but doable. Yes, I've read such reports. You will do everything, ANYTHING, to get items that help you boost your HtH skill, luck, strength, armor, armor skill, and endurance. It will be extremely difficult if you have to fight multiple enemies at once. Sneak/invisibility and chameleon will help a ton here.
Actually, there's one super item aright inside Imperial City. It boosts your HtH by 30pts (IIRC) and some reflect damage (also IIRC). You will have to steal it though.

I started out as a Hand-to-hand combat guy. I even beated the Arena with it! (I confess though, tweaked the difficulty slider a *bit* ;))

But, as these things usually go, when I got into DB, I slowly started to use a knife at worst enemies. With sneak. Then I used it to everyone.

And now, well, I've ended up with a character that sneaks and shoots the enemies in the back. :p

What do you guys think is the best race, specialisation, attributes, majorskills, birthsign?

Im currently: woodelf, stealth, agility-personality, block destruction illusion sneak lightarmour marksman speechcraft. Birthsign: Thief.

However i havent played that much so i can easely load back to when you are leaving the sewers and can change all this things.
I want to focus on killing with a bow, and having a few cool magic tricks up mu sleeve aswell.
Should i stick to these, or change something?

Is there an awesome bow somewhere in there? I hope!

@ Godwynn: Yeah, the strongest bow. It's a leveled item, so be at least level 19 (to max it) before you go for it. Also in the same place you will get a great mace as well.

@ sweetpete: You might want to take speechcraft out. The persuade mini game is very easy, and low personality/speechcraft just mean you max out earlier (e.g. 65 instead of 90). If you talk to everyone you bump into in Imperial City and try to max their disposition, you will level up your speechcraft very quickly. My first character, an Imperial Knight of the sign of Lady, fresh out of the prison, talked almost everyone in Imperial City to 100 disposition... got him 5 levels with speechcraft alone. And all that happens in a single night of a working day - my first day in Oblivion, actually.

Other than that I think your choices are great! :D

Ew, I'm only level 10.

I just want a strong bow!

9 levels are not very difficult to get when you're low level... :)
Just go crazy with alchemy and use poisons in the mean time.

oops! I missed that bow then. :( I was sick of closing the gates so I went directly to the tower and grabbed the sigil stone.

where is this bow? I am level 19 :D

As for charachter Sweetpete, those sound like pretty good choices for that, I wanted a similiar effect but I chose Woodelf with archer and mage birthsign, works pretty well for that effect.

The bow is called "Hatred's Heart". If you search the official forum's spoiler subforum, you will find a very detailed walkthrough, with screenshots, about how to find it.

But searching for it yourself is more fun... just know these:

1) Be level 19+ for best effect
2) It's in one of the Oblivion gate templates. The Chorrol gate use that template. Random gates might also use it, so you will be able to get multiple copies if you're lucky.

Time for screenies!!!

100% Chameleon is great for taking pictures of wild life

:cringe: My eyes! The goggles, they do nothing! How could you be so cruel, showing us a close-up of the annoying fan?! Push him off Dive Rock already!

Also the Hackdirt quest is a bit weird for me. My first character waited till 8pm to talk to the "good" guy, then went directly to the trapdoor in the inn afterwards (when I was heading to the inn I saw the Hackdirt townsmen walking out of their houses). Never seen any Hackdirt brethren on my way in and out. Once out of inn I fast travelled. :p

Lucky. Hackdirt bretheren are easy to kill though. :p

And I see you've done Mephala's quest, eh, Thunderfall? Watching those families rip into each other is fun. :)

Yup. :) Gotta say Oblivion has some really insane quests, more so than Morrowind. :crazyeye:

BTW, I got this powerful Finger of the Mountain spell as a reward from a quest. That magic requires something like 1500 magicka to cast though. :( I don't think it's possible to have that much magicka.

You just need to max destruction magic and max your intelligence. Then you maybe be able to cast it. How much damage it does?

I've read analysis about the MP requirements... it's a function of your spell skill (destruction in this case) and your luck.

Luck works here because it gives you hidden bonus to your skill. Luck at 50 has no effect; for every point below 50 you get a -0.4pt to every skill, and for every point above 50 you get +0.4pt.

So the Thief sign is quite good... it gives you a +4 to all skill right from the start.
