The Chronicles of Kongming
Volume III:
I last wrote of the great chaos, and how one Christos Lee came out on top. Let me first speak of this ruler and his reign. Below is a portrait of King Lee after enjoying the fruits of kingships for several days:
Now this King Lee was the most tyrannical of kings. After taking the throne, he ordered a nationwide purge of any who disagreed with him. Gangs of his followers dragged rich men off the street, killing them, sometimes after torturing them almost to death, and robbing them. Other bands of men pillaged rich manors. One of these, 200 strong, was dispatched on personal orders from King Lee, to arrest Li Hao Shi, and his guest, Shao Yu.
Meanwhile, a craftsman named He Zong was elevated to a high position in the court. He is waiting for orders.
Li Hao Shi, hearing the news about the attack, sent the refugees under his care to one Lobsang, a Buddhist farmer, and prepared for the attack. And it was ferocious. By the end of the battle, King Lee's men were dead, while Li Hao Shi had sustained 214 casualties, out of his 1,000 men.
Strizu Hao, appointed in charge of the production of Wu Wei, put together another worker unit, as well as many horsemen.
Meanwhile, Pang De, hearing of the cruelties being perpitrated in King Lee's court, refused the offer of King Lee, and began preparing for war.
Somehow, the sages managed to continue their studies in this chaotic period, and after divining the secrets of Military Advisors, began developing a Code of Laws.
That was when Ma Dai, Ma Teng's nephew, known for his skill with the lance, came of age. He managed to avoid the gaze of King Lee, however, and remained free.
More cavalry were mobilized, and many of King Lee's foes began to be worried.
That was when Li Jue, the rebel who held the emperor hostage, made arrogant demands. King Lee's response was a drunken rage, as he ordered Li Jue's messenger to be beheaded.
When the bands of men ravaging the countryside heard of the defeat at the hands of Li Hao Shi, and where he had sent the rich fugitives, mobbed the holy place Lobsang had set up, intending to burn it down, after trapping the fugitives in it. When Lobsang heard of their coming, he and the fugitives prayed earnestly to Buddha to save them. As the temple went up in flames, Buddha heard their prayer, and sent rain from heaven. The rioters were filled with holy fear, and many layed down their weapons, and begged Lobsang to teach them the true way.
In Wu Wei, Strizu Hao opened a weapons shop, and managed to accumulate 69 gold from it.
Meanwhile, in the court of King Lee, the slaughter continued, as people who opposed him were executed by the dozens by his personal order.
Then, a savior rose. Pang De, enraged at the mistreatment of the Liangzhou people, enlisted the help of Chen Yi, and with a force of 21,000 soldiers, swept into Wu Wei. King Lee smugly summoned his troops, to find, to his horror, that they had gone over to Pang De. Even so, he managed to raise 14,000 peasants to his cause, and the fight was bloody. In the end, however, King Lee was defeated, and Pang De declared Chen Yi king of Liangzhou, while the former King Lee was cast into prison. Ma Teng and Ma Chao were released, and both of them, along with Pang De and Ma Dai, pledged their allegiance to King Yi. A portrait of King Yi is below.
After the battle, a man named Nigh Ture offered aid to the wounded, and healed many wounds. Thus ended the Reign of Terror, as the historians now call it.
All hail, King Yi!
