The End of Han: The Three Kingdoms

As do I.

On the War Effort

I propose that two armies to march to Chang An. A smaller army composed of crossbow and pikes will bottle in Chang An and distract reinforcements while our main army will ride in and capture the city.

I agree with Terrance. Our two armies must help each other, and not fight individually.

absolutely. we should merge our armies and then attack

Volume V:

I was telling you of the first of the wars of Liangzhou; a war against the foul rebel Li Jue, who held the Emperor prisoner in Chang An. On hearing the news of the war, King Yi was filled with righteous wrath towards Li Jue, and ordered the forming of legions, and the levying of troops. Ma Teng and Pang De were quick to bring together a host of cavalry under their command.

The levy took place in Wu Wei and Tian Shui, reducing their population, and on the hamlet outside An Ding. The levied troops were brought together in An Ding, ready to march.

The cavalry stationed in An Ding quickly took out the Xiongnu who had slain the worker, to prevent the pillaging of more improvements.

That was when the blow fell. A messenger came from the Rice Taoist leader, Zhang Lu. He had declared war on us!

At the same time, troops under the command of several famous leaders were marching towards An Ding. They turned, however, and instead garrisoned Chang An.

Shao Yu, a warrior who had distinguished himself against King Lee in the Reign of Terror, requested command of a small division. His request was backed by Li Hao Shi, and it was granted. He was given command of his own spearman, along with a crossbowman, and some light cavalry.

The army was finally ready to march! Seeing a scout of Zhang Lu on the borders, Ma Teng's vengeance was swift.

For reasons unknown, Li Jue appeared to be abandoning Chang An to it's fate. He left a small force of crossbowman and halberdiers to defend it.

Envoys came from the Heishan Bandits, led by one Zhang Yan. King Yi was rightfully cautious of making friends of such men.

Then the battle began. Wave after wave of our glorious troops smashed into the enemy ranks. With Ma Chao, Ma Teng, Ma Dai, and Pang De it was no contest. With minimal casualties, we entered Chang An.

But the battle was not over yet. Several of Li Jue's generals were out in the open, making it a perfect time to attack. This we did, scattering the full force of Li Jue to the winds.

That was when the following message was intercepted. A man was trying to smuggle it to Christos Lee.
Spoiler :
Die, dog! I do not make bargains with fools. Do not expect a warm greeting when I conquer Wu Wei!
-Li Jue

The people of Liangzhou are outraged, many of them taking this as evidence of an attempted pact with the rebels.

After the battle of Chang An, a man named Fang Zi-An traveled to Han Sui's court, looking for trading opportunities. He was informed that he would be payed 100 gold if he would take a trade caravan to the city of Shang Dang, ruled by Zhang Yang, who lives directly east of the Heishan Bandits. He also informed Fang Zi-An that he once came across Feng Tong in the city of Luo Yang.
Finally, Lobsang traveled to the land of Han Sui to spread the words of Buddha, but found out that they already knew them. They still treated him with much respect, as a wise teacher.

Prestige:
Chen Yi: For rescuing the Emperor, Chen Yi receives 50 Prestige.
Li Hao Shi: For managing the draft, aiding in the downfall of Chang An, Li Hao Shi receives 20 Prestige.
Shao Yu: For leading a division in the Battle of Chang An, Shao Yu receives 15 Prestige.
Lobsang: For teaching in Han Sui's lands, Lobsang receives 5 Prestige.
Nigh Ture: For commanding his troops at Chang An, Nigh Ture receives 10 Prestige.
Strizu Hao: For commanding his troops at Chang An, Strizu Hao receives 10 Prestige.

Shao Yu is offered the position of governor of Chang An for his distinguished efforts in its taking. His troops, along with those under Nigh Ture, are responsible for escorting the emperor to the city of Wu Wei.

There we will discuss arrangements for his lodging and a way to garner support for our kingdom's ascension to the rule of greater China.

I feel a rush of creativity!

Li Hao Shi said:
As the walls down crumble
Down upon Li Jue's Head
As he runs in fear it rumbles
The rebel soldiers down fall dead

Men of Liangzhou through the gap
Dashing apart shades of black
Seeing through each and every trap
Emperor Xian's gratitude will not lack

Shao Yu graciously accepts his new station as governor of Chang'an. On the way back, to Wu Wei, Shao Yu begins to build rapport with the new conscripts. While the men who followed him from Liaodong had already been accustomed to his habits, Shao Yu makes it a point to build trust with his new soldiers. He sits amongst their camps and refuses to receive any special treatment from the aides & adjutants; subsequently eating alongside his men & sharing the same drinks with his most common soldiers.

EDIT: ooc: I just noticed that Scout right by the southern outlying towns of Chang'an.
EDIT2: ooc: I just noticed that the Scout is gone and there's a big stack somewhat in it's place.

Shao Yu orders the bulk of the army to hold tight and hold Chang'an while order is restored. Fortifications must be raised immediately.

As a commoner, I feel no pride in leading my army. I live among my men and eat their food. Though special food and drinks are brought for me, I do not accept them, but let my soldiers take what they want from it.

As they also had a large part in the capture of Chang'an and the rescue of the Emperor, I would also like to offer a reward to Li Hao Shi, Nigh Ture and Strizu Hao, along with Shao Yu. Each of you may ask one boon, and as long as it is within reason and within my power, I will attempt to make it reality.

A boon... I will wait until the others ask one, so I can see what's reasonable.
I travel to the east to help the scientist to measure the world. I leave my army in Chang An, and order them to obey Shao Yu until I'm back.

That light Cavalry does not look too light with that armored horses (renamed Cataphract?) :D

Enthusiastically though professionally, I accept the trade mission mission. I also ask of Han Sui his support for craftsman He Dong, then use what money I currently possess to supplement my armed escort in case bandits or Bandits do indeed pose a problem.
Spoiler :
About a third to half my funds end up going to a sturdy but spirited and surprisingly swift steed named Iridescent Dashing, incidentally from the same altitudinal herd as Shao Yu's own Shy Fluttering.

Within Liangzhou lands, I run a short errand or two before my longer journey. Since I too am interested in a Journey to the <strike>West</strike> East, being about to head in that direction myself already, I ask scholar Zhao Da for information relevant toward his ends, such as precision-measuring techniques.

Advisor Li Hao Shi soon hears from family members of mine, requesting that he send some men to assist development along the lush riverbank east of Wu Wei. To show precedent, they present relevant documents from the time of Strizu Hao's governorship. The mulberry bark papers bear official stamps and seem genuine -- if unusually worn, over such a short period of time -- though it's unclear how the deposed chamberlains came across them.

Less mysteriously, the governor is also presented a comparatively pristine scroll with pretty fine calligraphy, addressed from me to him in his capacity as Minister of Propaganda. I detail what I know about the local politics of Chang'an, whose political opinions are currently divided between themselves but could be harnessed and synthesized into a coalition to our own advantage. I'm confident though not positive about the results of even a single direct attempt at sending advocates of our own Division. When successful, it will be enough to make our newly-conquered city more focused and productive once the revolt has lost steam. Although the attention to Chang'an with divert temporarily from efforts in longer-standing domestic lands, it would inform similar future efforts in current Pass-West territory.
I lead the caravan to Shang Dang on a northerly route, avoiding as best as reasonably possible the lands under Li Jue's influence. Once in Zhang Lu's lands, I hope to pass as a humble unaffiliated merchant, appealing openly to Tian Shi Dao philosophical sensibilities if necessary. Along the way, I also keep my ears open for rumors of who might have marble to spare, and plan on an also-risky trip south to Luo Yang after Shang Dang.

OOC notes
Spoiler :
to Terrance888 and governors of cities who can build missionaries: Since Chang'an has two competing ideologies already (as does Ping Yi: Rebellion and Unification, if I'm reading them right), there's about a one-in-five+ chance it'll require than one Missionary-analogue to convert. Assuming that this mod didn't change too many underlying mechanics, and that we don't change civics to something that will make ideology less important.

+ You guys probably know IV mechanics much better than I do anyway, but, about four-fifths down:
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/strategy/religions.php

about Han Sui: He looks like he already has money to spare... assuming this is the same guy, and he probably is, more or less.

(Also looked for a picture of Hanzui holding a sword made of coins. That site seems to be long-gone, now... oh well.)

I propose that He Zong, the craftsman, to travel with us and meet with the leaders of the neighboring lands. If he shall go with the trade caravan, I shall go as well as companionship and as friends.
