The future of Fall from Heaven

Though I know I shouldn't as people seem to dislike change:

Why would it be based on EITHER mechanics?

Most likely because that's what Kael has the most experience in (TBS at least). Not to say he can't grow and learn new things, but it would be a natural to think he'll stick with the tried and true.

Actually, I think he has more experience as a DM, time-wise, then he has in this project. That's why I'm betting on a character driven RPG.

Not to say you aren't right, or that the next game Kael makes will be a FfH2 remake, but there IS a REALLY good reason for any of those things to be true: MONEY. Developers these days really like "tried and true." There isn't a whole lot of "lets take a risk on this new and innovative idea" out there, especially for a "first time for profit" game maker.

I'm not saying it is the case, but I would say there is a good enough chance to discuss the possibility.

Not developpers, publishers.
I'd love to see another TBS personally. Dominions 3 is a bit old, Civ V is quite alone in that department, unless Elemental gets patched into something fun and modded into something with a soul.

From the money-maker perspective, it should be something close to succesful version (FfH2) but with noticeable differences.
TBS not based on civ mechanics would meet both of this criteria.
Tbs based on civ 4 or civ 5 would not, any game other than strategy woud not either.
So, in my opinion, it is quite probable that it would be a TBS, not based closely on Civ mechanics.

Of course, there is always possibility that a money-maker would hope that setting itself has commercial power, and that FfH is a proof that Kael is good at doing stuff, so there are surely other possibilities

As LDiCesare, if it's a strategy game, I sure hope it's not a real-time one :)

I think FFH would be a great role-playing game. Of course it would obviously be good TBS.

There is so much backstory and rich myth in the setting, I think it would be perfect for an RPG.

which is DRM ;)

Hate to say it, but Richard Stallman's not making video games. Like it or not, DRM is a commercial reality. Be glad it's not Ubisoft.

Could I boycott Civ5 on principle? Sure. Will I? Of course not. Steam is the poster child of what DRM should be - a value-added service instead of a big-brother nanny.

I don't know about poster-child.... I dislike steam.

Of the mainstream options, though, it is one of the best. And there is no way in hell 2K Games would sell anything without DRM.

Exactly. If a game is going to have DRM (and it is, games have had DRM since the days of floppy drives), at least it has Steam. Steam isn't perfect, and it is DRM, but it's really not that bad.

Anyway, I doubt anyone's minds are being changed. And this has been discussed ad nauseum on the Civ5 boards, so this time I promise, no more Steam rants from me.
