Chieftain
The year is 1520 AD. Barbarian hordes rage against the northeastern-most cities of the empire. The solomn war generals are pushing their few Keshiks hard to hold the line. It wasn't always like this.
Once, Mongolian Keshiks were as the sea. In those far-gone days, foreign powers existed. They are no more, unable to withstand the Horde's once-mighty wrath.
The scribes failed to ascertain much from the ruins left behind of either civilizataion. The Horde was that complete in its rapid and destructive rampage. It is only known for sure that their were two, in addition to the Mongolians.
One lie in the eastern lands of the continent, and was dealt with first. This civilization had access to iron, and Kublai Khan flew into a jealous rage at the revelation. Such was their fate.
To the south was a much more prosperous people, at least for a time. The opposing king's arrogance at founding a city within a month's ride of the Mongolian border sealed their fate, so it is said.
The few Mongolians who dare to speak out will say without hesitation that, yes, Kublai Khan is mad. And yet, his absolute power persists.
(The image below is a shot of the empire and its home continent as of 1520 AD, with the culture overlay turned on for grins.)
(This next one is a blow-up of continent's center.)
(Here's the continent's south.)
(Finally, the east.)
