The "I Got A New Game!" Thread

Most games let you adjust the sensitivity. Does JC2 not?

Just Cause 2 lets you adjust it, but when I tried it it was either EXTREMELY SLOW or EXTREMELY FAST. I couldn't find a comftorable middle ground.

I just bought Jade Empire. It's 75% off. The first time it's ever been 75% off, I believe, and during the sale it was 50% off (first time for that, too). I hear it's essentially KOTOR but NOT IN SPACE!

I don't have KOTOR, but Jade Empire is a damn awesome game. If you can deal with the scenario itself, and if you don't need an open world, then it's the perfect RPG.
The combat is interesting, the story is nice and good scripted, there's an alignment system, you have different ends, a good working character system (but not extensive, same for the inventory), and something which you rarely find in other RPGs and I don't want to disclose that :p.

FYI Risen is available for free via GamersGate's VOID program, and its okay I guess. Not bad, but I don't think I'll ever finish it. Very similar to Gothic 3 but less buggy and less interesting.

I hate all the Gothic games, but for some reason i liked and finished Risen(1).

The world is smaller
Not really an improvement. It works for Risen but still.

, not so generic,
Bandits/freedom fighters vs magic wielding inquisition/monk dudes who indoctrinate people with both sides trying to find a magical source of power hidden on the island. Sounds pretty generic to me.

the atmosphere is therefore better
I didn't notice much of a difference really, although it did really feel like an island with a small population.

Better comparable to G1/2, and not the mess of G3.
By G3 I meant of course with the community patches.

I gave it a try, but I failed to find a reason to really care about most of the characters and the combat wasn't any better than Oblivion's.

That's now definitely strange :D.

The world in G3 was definitely to big. At least in my opinion. If you liked it, then sure you dislike this part about Risen.

Not story-wise :p.
More about the landscape and the people. It's more interesting to explore a cave in Risen than in G3, because you just have fewer, and it seems they put some thoughts into them.
You will also know the people. Do you remember any name from G3, besides your fellowship from the beginning? In Risen you'll remember some of the names (at least while you play it).

Oh, and I thought most people like Oblivion :D (I don't :hide:), so this would be good, wouldn't it ^^?

Hey the mages are pretty cool guys, don't lump them in with those Inquisition jerkwads.

The first chapter is amazing fun, but the other two are more about combat than listening to the AFGNCAAP snark it up. Maybe it's cuz I was a mage and not a bandit.

Linear caves that I don't remember.

I don't remember the names of anyone in Risen, and I honestly don't care what their names are either. Most of them were simply people I sold crap to, got a quest from, or delivered something too. I haven't played Gothic 3 in a couple of years or so and I don't remember names that well off the top of my head for most games (even ones like Morrowind that I put 100s of hours into) anyway. Although I can name quite a few Morrowind and Mount&Blade NPCs off the top of my head regardless.

The combat (among other things) in Oblivion is mediocre, so no it isn't a good thing.

Magic combat, at least, is much improved in Skyrim. I would argue bows are as well.

I agree. Even though there are less spell effects, the ones that are included are much more interesting and fun to play with. It's not boring anymore, particularly when you compare the 'touch' range destruction spells with the flamethrower/hose type spells in Skyrim.

I picked up Sid's Pirates yesterday, and I think it messed up my laptop's 'Fn' key, lol. So my keys:

7 8 9
U I O
J K L

have turned into a number pad deal. So unless I hold down the 'Fn' key, they turn into:

7 8 9
4 5 6
1 2 3

I'm going to have to restart my laptop or something, hope that fixes it.

EDIT: Derp, I fixed it. Thank you Google.

Pirates is so fun. Especially if you have a frigate.
