The "I Got A New Game!" Thread

Timesplitters deserves a comeback, and so did Rayman. I'm hoping to see Timesplitters 4 in the nearest future, because that game fills loads of my childhood memories.

It's not a "new" game, but it is a game that I only recently have gotten (again).

I went to my parent's house and picked up an old X-box game I haven't played in what seems like forever, Timesplitters: Future Perfect.

Now THAT is a great game. I like it much more than TF2. This series would be huge if it ever came to the PC, IMO.
TimeSplitters 2 was possibly the greatest couch multiplayer game of all time.

...transferring a discussion from the screenshots thread (since I don't have any screenshots...)

Each of the five routes has a good ending and an neutral ending, four of them have bad endings and there is an additional bad ending if you manage to miss out on all of the routes.

...you might guess which one I first hit ^^. Must have some sort of talent...

Whatever, now I'm the first time through it, with Rin.
The first time the "adult content" came up it was....disturbing, at it's best. Not physiologically, but emotionally. Man, writing that sounds weird.

Hard stuff. Somehow. Quite depressing in some sense (even the good ending).
Are the others in the same way?
Not sure if I want to play ("play") it again.

I read something on RockPaperShotgun about it. The author talked in the article if it still qualifies as game, and that interactive comic would describe it better. Can't disagree. A bit more interaction would probably be good, but it has its right to exist. Not really recommendable in general, though.

If it involved a bottle of whiskey then yeah, I got that one the first time too.

Each route is a fairly different experience, even in the way they present the adult content. I recommend playing Hanako's route before Lilly's though and doing another one or two between them. It also helps when replaying it that you can skip (fast forward) through all the text you have already read (since the first hour or so is mostly the same stuff). Shizune's route has some great moments but some parts get a bit odd. They are all worth playing through though.

For some reason Visual Novels are counted as game, but I guess that is because in Japan they are often available on the consoles (mostly the Playstation I think). I haven't played any others so I don't know if any of them have more RPG-ness to them or not. Some are extremely long though, KS is 6+ hours while Clannad is ~60 hours.

:yup:
Not sure if this reflects my RL socializing ability :mischief:.

Phew, good to hear.
Because Rin was now very stressing (...lack of a better word), and not sure if I could say "fun". And I'd not really want to go through that again if the others were not different.
But so...mhh...think I'll try Hanako next, but I don't think I'll go through all.

Already noticed the fast forward thing (skip text, or so?), good to know :).

mmhh...interesting.
Is there anything else freely available? Might try others too.
Because I personally think that RPGs could need more story (...I can't be arsed to try Oblivion again at the moment...), so everything with a good story is welcome.

Just played Jade Empire, that one had a really good amount, but sadly that's not really common :/.

None that I know of that are legally free. Most of the other ones I have heard about are professionally one bad can be extremely long (Clannad is ~60 hours long per route, and takes 300 hours to 100% using a guide).

Bioware's attempts at relationships, at least in their recent games, feel less than impressive now.

Damn.
I guess the rest would need importing, am I right?
At least I haven't read about anything comparable, so the games are probably not available here.

That is again maybe a bit long.

I guess this means Dragon Age and Mass Effect (haven't played both), yes?
Because I mentioned Jade Empire (also Bioware), and found the romance in there quite nice (at least considering that it's not a dating game, but a RPG; I think I'd not really want to have that amount of relationship like in K-S in a real RPG).

Jack of all trades, master of none.

playing Kingdoms of Amalur liking it and not liking MassEffekt or Elderscrolls or DragonAge or Witcher
Can play it with a PAD and graphic is on the level of WoW
The game content is rather huge, up and above 100hours there is and also DLC

Got Kid Icarus: Uprising for the 3DS. It's a pretty good game. I'm looking forward to test it's online multiplayer.

I've had my copy of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for a while now and I have been obessed with it. When I saw the reviews for it, I thought pre-ordering it was a mistake. After playing it though I have to disagree somewhat with the reviews.

The game does lack polish and at points it becomes obvious that it is kinda low-budget, but for some reason I can't stop playing it. I have played through the campaign six times already and I'm still not tired of it. I guess part of it might be that the game takes place during one of my favorite parts of the Resident Evil Universe: the Raccoon City outbreak.

I just received FtM (For the Motherland!) as a gift from another member of the Paradox forum. That's five or six gifted games in the past two years!

... it's a bit ironic that my name is in the HOI-3 credit roll, but I can't afford to buy myself a copy once the game is finished...

They're really good at pissing off their fanbase.
They have one of the worst, most neurotic, jumpy, and easily enraged fanbases on the Internet. This was widely recognized long before the company did things that vocal sections of that fanbase disliked. Pissing them off is a side effect of doing anything at all.

Meanwhile, die-hard Valve fans can barely be assed to whine about the quiet and highly disturbing demise of the Half-Life franchise.

Well, considering I didn't know BioWare existed until Mass Effect came out, I wouldn't have known.

Valve fanboys used to complain about HL3, especially on the Escapist. I don't see it at all any more. Very disconcerting.

I think they've just given up hope, particularly in the wake of the disaster that was Duke Nukem Forever.
