The "I Got A New Game!" Thread

Got BF1942. I'm really bad at it, but it's still tons of fun to see your own tank sliding down a cliff because you can't yet handle the control that well.

Just bought Left 4 Dead GotY for $7.49 on Steam!

Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - Terrible terrible story. Great fun otherwise, lots of time can be wasted customizing. I kinda miss random battles and the serious overtones of FFT for the Playstation, but this is still a solid 8.5 game.

Dragon Quest V - I love DQ games. This one is fantastic 10 hours in, the grinding is actually not to bad and enjoyable. The story unfolds much better than it seems it will at first. It is a pretty long game but the longer the better (thats what she said lololol).

New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
It's a DAMN hard Mario game. Mostly spent the month getting extra lives and items. Found the warp cannon from World 5 to World 8. Sweet. But now, Mario's getting owned.

I do miss all thos items from SMB 3 and SMW that made them legendary, and NSMBW isn't quite as good as the old school Mario games. I'd keep all the moves Mario/Luigi/Toad has (Triple Jump, Wall kick, ect), but add the hand stand, hand stand jump and the slide jump. They also don't break as fast as the old school Mario games either, and you end up overjumping or underjumping; the mechanics just aren't up to par.
I also like Yoshi and his signature hover, but I would love Yoshi to chuck eggs like in Yoshi's Island/Yoshi's Story, instead, brough out the old school Yoshi, that really dosen't do anything.
Still, multiplayability makes up (almost) to the lack of features that could have been. I mean, seriously, ice flower? I would rather have the leaf then that crap! No supersized Mario on Wii, but the tiny Mario is back.

I give this game, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a 2 out of 5. It could've been a lot better. I'm disappointed.

IGN and most of the reviewers I've seen liked it...now I'm unsure though. I've really been wanting New Super Mario Brothers though :undecide:

I dont trust most reviewers. At least not the professional ones. They have too many resons for thich they could...bump the scores.

What do you think of red dead redemption?

Azale, go to Amazon.com and read the most helpful user reviews if you want a fair opinion.

What ever you do, DO NOT listen to this guy as he doesn't have any clue what he's talking about.

http://bestof.ign.com/2009/wii/wii-game-of-the-year.html

As you can see, this game won IGN's annual Game of the Year award, and you'll
missing out on a damn fine game by not picking it up.
The game plays like a classic 2D Mario Game, and yes, it is difficult.
But as long as you don't suck at Mario games, you should enjoy it.;)

If you'd like, I'll endorse the game in more detail in my next post.

But first, let me deal with this guy:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
I do miss all thos items from SMB 3 and SMW that made them legendary

Power-ups in SMW:

Super Mushroom
Fire Flower
Cape Feather
Starman

Power-ups in NSMW

Super Mushroom
Fire Flower
Starman
Propeller Mushroom
Ice Flower
Penguin Suit

lolwhat?

Similar to SMB3, NSMW allows you to take power-ups found in Toad houses with you.
Except this time, you can carry up to 99 of each item and you no longer get useless
crap like the anchor/music box.

You might complain about the lack of a P-Wings/Cape Feathers, but they wouldn't work well at all in multiplayer mode.(the screen keeps you from moving too far ahead of the pack)
The propeller suit is a multiplayer friendly substitute imo.

They also don't break as fast as the old school Mario games either, and you end up overjumping or underjumping; the mechanics just aren't up to par.

You ARE aware that shaking the Wii Remote in mid-air can be used to increase or cancel your momentum right? RIGHT?
Wall Jumps allow you to recover from falling in pits and the aerial platforms aren't any harder to land on then they where in the past.

You are the first person I've ever seen whine about the game engine.

Oh, and I adapted to the game's physics after about five minutes of play, and this is coming from someone who grew up with SMW, so I'll just assume your skills at 2D platformers is relatively weak.:p

I also like Yoshi and his signature hover, but I would love Yoshi to chuck eggs like in Yoshi's Island/Yoshi's Story, instead, brough out the old school Yoshi, that really dosen't do anything.

"Chuck eggs?"
Really?
You're complaining about a feature that has never been a 2d Mario game?(Yoshi game=/=Mario game)

And as for the "doesn't really do anything" BS:

Gives you an extra hit point.
Allows you to eat enemies and potentially spit them back at other foes.
Permits the famous "Yoshi sacrifice trick"
The previously mentioned hover Jump.
Extremely powerful in multiplayer mode.

Still, multiplayability makes up (almost) to the lack of features that could have been. I mean, seriously, ice flower? I would rather have the leaf then that crap! No supersized Mario on Wii, but the tiny Mario is back.
"I would rather have the leaf then that crap!"

Really?
Freezing enemies and using the frozen block of ice as a weapon/platform sounds useful
to me.

If you're whining about the Ice flower/Penguin Suit comparison,
why aren't you bringing up the Leaf/Tanooki suit comparison?

Yoshi's nasty enough in multiplayer, but Mega Mario?
Baaaaaaad idea.

This is the headline of the most helpful user review:

156 of 165 people found the following review helpful:
Games like this are the reason I own a Wii!!

Luckily, most people weren't "disappointed".
The user score is even higher then the critics score, so it looks like you're in the minority!

But whats the fun in that? That's too easy. And I'm sorry, I have to agree with PreLynMax. I really didn't care for this game very much. I got excited when I heard about a new 2d platforming mario game coming out, as opposed to all this "Mario makes a bagel" crap. Sadly, when I actually played it, it just wasn't SMB. I'll stick with the originals, thank you very much.

And to the Age of Empires games, I'd get one of them, but I don't know which you'd perfer. Age of Empires 3 Is a lot different from 2. In fact, it's almost more like Age of Mythology. Whether you would find that good or bad I don't know.

I have to admit that I never really liked Super Mario to start with. And I had a NES in the 80s as a kid. Even the kid nostalgia doesn't make me like it. Man, the controls in Super Mario 1 were just awful. My favorite SMB game is probably Super Mario 2, and it's not even a Mario game it's Doki Doki Panic or whatever that was. Then Super Mario World, that one was pretty good. The other ones were just annoying to me. I hated Super Mario 64. I thought it looked like crap back then and 3D platforming is generally a bad idea unless the platforming isn't the main purpose of the game. What I mean by that is that I'm okay with the third person perspective, but whenever I play a 3rd person game and I am expected to jump around on platforms (even in 1st person that's dumb), I just think it's stupid and annoying.

Anyway, that's just me.

What was the point of that ad hominum?

Some ignorant child used to spam IGN lists and review "scores" here a lot. And IGN has a horrible website design.

As for the new Super Mario, I don;t think you should expect it to be exactly like the past ones, if so then why not just play the games already made which ARE the old ones?
