With respect, the Poles were in charge of the whole thing back then, with Swedes on the sidelines. At least, that's the commonly-accepted version. ;)
You know, this started to distrub me so greatly that I even started a thread in the OT, so far nothing conclusive has been found out. If it's "commonly accepted", then I wonder why there are so many version around about this story.. :p

Well duh, thats rather inevitable with such events that are famous enough to be known and obscure enough to be not known too well. But indeed, there are many versions out there. The one that partially inspired my NES2 V althist was a really funny one about how the Stroganov mercantile family was pulling the strings all along - first inviting Poles in, then throwing them out with Uralic (sic!) militiamen despite the fact that most of them came from Vladimir and the like. Though I suppose that by the 18th century the Judeo-Masons overthrew the Stroganovs...

That sounds more like a History sub-forum topic than an OT sub-forum topic.

Alright. I've decided that it was time to revive this from the depths of the forum to give everyone the impressions of a Four Month Old Hippie. Now you don't have to agree with me, nor do you even have to care what I'm saying. This is just my oponion. Also, I'm not holding anything back. I speak to alot of you in aim, so I've become to be more friendly. But I'm still not going to hold back what I think.

I'll be editing this over the next couple of days, so don't fret if you ain't up here yet. Basically I'm just rating players on a fier tier system, with five being the highest (bviosuly). I apologize for an offense beforehand.

Tier Five

das: Whats good is a list if it doesn't start out wth (undoubtly) one the bst NESers anyone has ever dreamed of? das still manages to amaze me with everything he does: NS iv was one of my favorites so far, he dwarfs just about every other writer's stories in both content and length, and still manages to wage wars better than 4/5s of the entire forum. Added togethor.

Alright- now that I'm done with the rabid fan thingie- I'll give a few short reasons (like any are needed). I've only been here a short time, so remember that. I like to point to DisNES as good example: He managed to fight, in my oponion, one of the two best warmongers here for several turns, only to have the other one one join in on the fray. And he still held out- not to mention the joining of several other powers against him.

I doubt anyone really needs me to go any further in the explanation and I also doubt anyone would argue with my placement.

Symphony_D: I better do this own before theres a riot. I started with das simply because he's arguebly the best in all around, not because he was the best warmonger. Symph is prob the one person in the entire forum that I really don't want to go up against (theres some hesitation with Silver and das, but I'd try against either one of them if I had to.)

Symph, like I said, is undoubtly the best fighter here and I give him great respect for that. While anyone would be impressed with his abilities, I'll say the onyl thing bad that I can about him: his stories tend to be static form what I've see. Maybe its just what he's been doing lately, but the whole spy thing tends to be a turn off to me and I can never read em to the end.

I wish I could actually say more, but I can't. And yes, I know he did an incredible job against das in Disnes. I'm not basing everything off just that one, remember. It was just the easiest example for me to pull up.

Tier Four

Tier Three

Kentharu: (Time to get blunt) When I first started NESing I, to be quite true, hated Ken. I couldn't stand him to the extreme point. I thought he was a coward who had no backbone and that he had to be extremely lucky just to get where he was. I hated all of his stories and thought that he was even worse at writing than me. Basically I thought Ken was a complete idiot.

I'm happy to say now that he's proved me wrong in all of those areas. I actually kinda liked some of his stories from das's last nes (I still ain't too fond of the Gorin ones through). Despite the fact about his un-kosher habit of quiting in the middle of a game, he's still managed to surprise me a couple times- I never saw the attack on Lengels coming that turn (who knows, I might just have been out of it then.)

While Ken's not the best, hes still better (or at least on the same level) than (as) most people here.

Tier Two

Luckymoose: Egh- first of all, LM know that I'm just basing this on how you play. You seem like a pretty decent person from AIM conversations. But, when it comes to playing, you just don't seem to know everything that you're doing in my eyes. Sure- I'll give it to you; you've had a few successes here and there. But overall I just see things that strikes me as ...."unsmart."

First you switch sides with little hesitation: you make one alliance and then switch it with little hesistation. Thats why I trust you very little anymore and I doubt anyone else here does. Second you seem to attempt "unsavory" polocies- going from a french supporting Egypt to an anti-French Egypt in one turn isn't a good move. Third you seem to be horrible at making the right friends- you isolated the only other powers that could counteract Rome in Jalnes leaving yourself to be attacked. (Despite how it seemed, before your little rants I would have assisted you against Rome by funding you {kinda like how Alex did to us ;]}). Its impossible to do such now.

You seem like an okay story writer, just lacking in a few grammer skills. I suggest Microsoft Word if you don't already use it- I write just about all of my final drafts in it. Spellcheck is a god-send. Work on that and become a stronger ally and you'd easily either high-level 3 or low 4.

Tier One

J-eps: Sorry. I'm trying to be as truthful as I can. I'm grading people on their wrinting and playing ability, if you're wondering. If anything, J-eps you seem like a high level 1 right now. It seems to me that you just need some writing lessons (what grade level are you in?) and some more experience and you'd be good to go. I haven't seen any of your orders, so I wouldn't know.

One of the few new kids that I'm actually looking forward to having more contact with ;].

Tier One

j_eps. If I'm lucky, tier two. My orders.........

Just ask Imago, Jal, Sheep, or EQ

Don't worry, no offense taken.

I'm not sure where I am. Hope this doesn't get flamy...

Technically it's "flamey," as a flam is one of the twenty essential drumming rudiments.

Or you might have meant flan, being a tart filled with custard.

I'd put myself in Tier ^_^.

Yes, this is spam, and yes, I'm still working on that update.

*shrugs* I'm pretty good at story-writing, somewhat less so at warfare, good at diplomacy, better at domestics than some (who ignore it altogether) :p... I don't know.

Well, das is surely quite a good NESer, but you can hardly say that I was at my best in DisNES - the orders were horribly short in comparison to the best of my orders in NES2 VI. Symphony, meanwhile, was at a huuuuuge disadvantage, and it was not he who invaded Das, it was das who invaded him, expecting a much quicker victory. The fact that Symphony fought a nation several times greater than his own to a standstill is in my mind a greater achievement than das holding off me and Symph. Das has failed in his objectives in this war, and the Ottoman Empire no longer is no. 1.

A few of my very short impressions [have longer version from reading old NESes and lurking for a while, but too lazy/tired to post.] (mods of NESes I'm in or was in or almost in):

Imago- feels guilty for being harsh on NESers.

Jal- Extremely lazy. Good mod, but lazy.

Israelite - Too busy.

EQ - Gives NESers a chance to redeem themselves. Also, admits to not being perfect (+1 humanity).

Sheep - can keep a NES alive only if he likes the concept a lot.

Nuke, Carmen - Has map problems.

I have to support Panda there- I don't think Dis' NES is a good representation of his abilities.

As for me... I can't really rate myself, I'll leave that up to my peers. However, as one of the old order of NESers with some competency, I should at least be tier 2 or 3...

If you want demonstrations of my ability, see GoobNES, Dis' NES, etc. I've never really had any significant bad NESes. I guess I am fairly consistent...

Bah I do that in practiaclly every NES...

Imago- feels guilty for being harsh on NESers.

That's the first thing that comes to mind about me?

In my defense, my NES is the most consistantly updated out of all of them, right now. (Though that honor I am sure I will soon loose to a revived ITNES.)

Agreed. What really did doom me was moving troops from Hungary just before Panda's attack (well, that and some other inforgivable blunders at a later date, like the turn just after that attack that I, in my opinion, mostly wasted)... Had Panda attacked earlier, he would've had a much harder time.

Really, I'm not all that good a warmongerer, especially on a tactical level; I consider myself rather better at intrigue and diplomacy, despite occasional flashes of military inspiration.

EDIT: Anyway, personally I'd place myself on Tier Four; Tier Five is probably for Symphony D., and possibly Insane_Panda and North King. First place is overrated anyway - the Ottoman Empire was on the first place, and where it is now? ;)
