The last challenge -- Team game -- Deity trial

Played 10 turns, finished chemistry. Oxford will complete in Delhi in about 3 turns (maybe 2 with a chop) and the last two theaters will complete next turn. We need to decide where to put Globe and HE respectively.

Let's see.... first started by revolting to NSR and then kicking off some serious tech whoring:

After the civics cool down, I revolted to slavery/OR (stupid) to whip the universities into place. I also continued tech whoring:

Meantime, Nidaros fell:

But I think Monty/Rags are on the cusp of getting some decent military techs to actually defend themselves. Somewhat.

The tech whoring continues:

with a bad event too:

With the universities done, I revolt again:

Meanwhile, an AP vote pops up:

This is the current price to broker peace:

So I don't think it's as one-sided as Ragnar's territory loss would indicate. Or at least I hope... We should probably send our scout east now that it's finished mapping most of the NW. And our current tech situation:

Joao/Toku are in a GA, and one of them also built the Taj.

I'd also revolt back to slavery next turn to start building the Globe via whip overflow (from catapults). Not sure where we want to built it though...

And in case you're wondering, I picked up HBR to avoid trade unbalance. Also, Delhi is working some plains forests to speed up Oxford. Steel should probably be done in another 7 or 8 turns, I think. Hopefully we'll still be able to catch Monty... Do we want to consider gifting gunpowder to Monty in hopes that they'll hold off the English/Dutch? Or are we going to just hope for the best there?

Also as an aside, now that we're in mercantilism, we may actually get Toku to friendly...

Good tech :)
The draft city is the fish/horse one and having draft in its name.
Resource city is the HE.

Nice, our diplomatic effort finally got paid. Next couple of sets will focus on military build.

Do we want to consider gifting gunpowder to Monty in hopes that they'll hold off the English/Dutch?

This is quite a problem. If we let them get cuirassiers, they can rape our cannons when we advance. Tuff call, but I guess it may be for the best if we think over all it blocks Monte from vassaling. On the other hand, that idiot will be spamming stupid muskets now instead of longbows, and this makes his downfall even faster at the same time.

I'm going to take a break from civ probably for a long time so i won't participate in this game anymore. Game looks good, i think you'll win it, good luck.

Ps: I wouldn't give gunpowder to Monty.

No problem, take care, Dirk.

Plan:

Resume 100% teching to Steel after OU.

Switch EP to Joao/Toku, we don't need spy support while going for cannon war.

Switch to OR and Slavery when available. Many cities need Forges and barracks. This set will focus on infrastructures.

HE in Resource City. GT in draft city after Forge and will take Fish tile.

Will trade Gunpowder for Theo with Ragnar, We need ~20 turns to build our SOD, so they will get it anyway. Their land area is still enough for them to stand for a while, so I won't stop the war, just let it go.

Oxford should be ready in 3 or 2 turns and NE should be extra 6 w/ OR. There is time to fit it, I think. Need not a high priority.
Although the city will need a grocery too.

On a side note:
* we are 0.7*power of Ragnar, provided we don't really have any military he must be truly in bad shape.
* something more serious, we have not asked Toku anything for quite some time (he refused Dirk's demand, iirc), I think it's time for him to show us some appreciation and not consider war against us. Ask him few gold coins at some point.

I think Grocer and Market in Delhi are more important than NE atm. They will not only provide health and happiness bonus, but also tax income. We can sacrifice other cities for military units before economic buildings, but not in our best commercial city.

Ragnar's power in screen is low, but this considers his population and techs, so his real troops should not be too bad. Indeed, either Ragnar or Monty has no chance of preventing losing the cities, but AI need long time to capture a city, especially they will reduce the defense to 0 before final attack in 3.19 patch.

Regarding Toku, I think he granted Dirk's demand and I begged Joao in my set, so yes we can ask some cash now.

Noticed just now that Joao got democracy, so soon we will see the SoL+Sistine at the border.

Wonder when we will be able to deal with them... if they go SM->communist instead of rifling it could be in the not so far future.

I think after steel we should broker peace, if possible.

Played to the completion of Steel.

920 AD -- Traded Gunpowder for Theo with Ragnar, begged cash from Toku.

960 AD -- Switched to OR and Slavery

980AD -- OU in, resumed 100% research.

1030AD -- Willem/Churchill called for AP victory, why not let them be happy for nothing, so I voted for them. Forgot to print Screenshot.

1060AD -- Steel in. Cities are ready to produce units, we may want to adopt Theology next. Resource city is ready to produce 1 cannon per turn with some chop/whip. Delhi may want to continue on infrastructures such as Confucian buildings and Bank.

I think we should speed up the next great person for a golden age to help production of the cannons.
In 15-16 turns we should have rifling and the globe but I think we have to stop the war before Churchill deprives us from any plunder.

Quite impressive SoD, hard to believe Monty/Ragnar can be squashed like a little bug.

Well, our production won't be a problem with HE city up, we can produce ~20 cannons in the next 10 turns with whip/chop. The real problem is that we are short of strong defensive units, It will take ~20 turns to Rifling, alternatively we can go for MS so that we can start the war earlier with the protection of Grens, while the downside is that we can only draft musketman. I prefer the latter. We need to hurry up the invasion and aim to start it in 15 turns.

Xochi is a mediocre city, I think we can let it fall, which can save us several turns before we stop the war.

hmm, so you prefer cannon/drafted muskets/grenadiers and jumbos.

I am afraid pinch will own the grenadiers and flank the cannons, so we will need some other anti-mount stack defense.

I will take a closer look. Generally, I prefer the standard rifle draft but if that would too late...
