Well let's be honest. Very few programs today stand up to the quality of All In The Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and so forth.

etc etc

I remember far too many of these sorts of things not to have serious doubts about my sanity.

USA stand up, admit it, and weep for shame.

Will you believe that wasn't that bad?

Here looks like my mistake. Some kid in the USA likes it:

I'm 14 and I love these older shows, I agree that most of the shows today are full of crud, that is making my generation stupid and perverted :( why can't they make shows like this , gilligans island, and leave it to beaver! Ugggg, so annoyed

The people that say today's television is worse than the past are the same as those who say todays music (or movies, books, games, etc) is worse than in the past.

Of course during the so called "good times" you can see people making the exact same thing (watch "All in the Family" and you will see Archie talking about how good things were in the '50s and crappy they are in the '70s).

The fact is that most production in all forms of entertainment is garbage designed for mass consumption and always has been.

The past always looks good in retrospective largely because we forget the crap that was out there and what is popular is often not remembered as a classic (note The Archies Sugar Sugar was the 1969 top song on Billboard). Twenty years from now, people will be talking about how great the TV/music/games/movies were in 2000-2010.

And this is from a huge fan of older TV shows (mostly sitcoms and cheesy Sci-Fi), music (70s and 80s rock). and movies. I admit a good part is that it is easier to find the good stuff and part because styles and technology change (it is hard to find any new TV shows like BSG or Star Trek) not because they are objectively superior eras.

I very nearly bought that single. But decided I'd spend the money elsewhere.

Oops. Watch out. I almost gave my age away, there.

Spoiler :
I think I got away with it, though.

I still like older TV shows, although some new ones are good.

Let's see there is... um... um...

Didn't I mention I'm under 30? :p

Me too. Honest injun native american white man with forked tongue as the day is long -ish person.

Edit: Never mind.

Probably the same reason people hate the Yankees.

But I personally am a support of Chelsea.
I can't decide if I dislike this because you're a bandwagoner, or if I dislike this because it means you care about soccer.

I would say people hate Chelsea because they were one of the first clubs to be bankrolled by a billionaire which meant they could spend lots of money on the best players and pay them high wages. This led to allergations that Chelsea had "bought" the league/FA cup/ League cup and so on.
Plus, a lot of people hate John Terry because all of his controversy he is involved in over his career (especially the left) and he is booed when he gets the ball at certain stadiums - hes the captain ;). You also have players like Ashley Cole who is unashamedly materialistic and moved to Chelsea for the big pounds over notions like club loyalty.

I would say the Chelsea hate has died down a lot these days. The rage against the big money is now directed at Manchester City who got bought out by an Arab oil tycoon in 2008..

Reagarding soccer, not long ago I decided to arbitrarily choose a Premier League team as 'my team.' I chose Arsenal. As a new fan, though, I'm still struggling to learn about my adopted team. While I am soaking up all I can from arsenal.com and seriously considering subscribing to player.arsenal.com, I would still appreciate any helpful information from anyone who has Arsenal in their blood as it were. You know, what teams should I truly despise, that sort of thing.

Thanks!

VRWC developing an appreciation for soccer?

What is this?

Eh? I played in "little league" for a few years when I was a young pup. I've always liked the sport at least a little bit.

Hmm, intriguing. The More You Know™.
