The Multipolar World (MP)

You did notice that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation resolution was passed right?

Nope! And since when were PBs nukes?

Does anyone else sometime read the thread title as the Multiplayer World?

...You really don't pay any attention to the UN, do you?

-Nukeknockout

Nah, I just want someone to try it.

You're being somewhat illogical. The goal is to NOT attract attention. Especially for a "pacifist".

All was quiet. The cave entrance loomed over the valley, seeming to warn travelers and explorers away. The Crusader garrison in the town had a running bet – a bet that one day they would go inside and find the Holy Grail. None of them wanted that day to be today, however.

The two trucks pulled up outside the cave, headlights gleaming, wheels crunching the gravel. Six men jumped from each, all carrying old M16 rifles. From one truck followed a man in a dark gray suit, fiddling with his black gloves. He eyed the dozen armed men as they fanned out around the cave.

Two of them pulled another figure from inside the other truck. The woman had bright black hair, and wore the jeans and T-shirt that the man had first seen her in. Her hands were bound behind her, a cloth wrapped around her eyes.

“Good to see your smiling face again, Miss Atkinson,” the man said. The woman turned her head in his direction.

“Please, I don’t know what you want. Just let me go. I – I’ll pay you! However much you want!” She twisted against the ropes, terror flitting across her face.

“You can call me Pierre,” the man said with a smirk – it wasn’t his real name. “And I want you for your extensive knowledge, Miss.”

“Of what?” Samantha Atkinson sounded on the verge of tears. “I just know you grabbed me off the street and threw me in your truck!”

“Of the Dark Cave,” Pierre said. Samantha blanched.

“The Dark Cave is a mythological legend,” she whispered. “What do you want with it?”

“A legend?” Pierre laughed. “Is that what you think? Come now, Doctor Atkinson, you’re not that stupid. The ancient Knights Templar themselves found the Cave here in Palestine. There are records of it – hidden ones, true, but I found them. As did you.”

Samantha shivered. “Please, let me go. I can’t help you!”

The men had entered the cave, and Pierre moved to follow them. Samantha’s holders dragged her in his wake, over her protests.

“Oh, but you CAN, miss,” Pierre replied, a smug note in his voice. “You see, we stand in the Dark Cave as I speak.”

Samantha stiffened. “No . . .”

“Yes,” Pierre said. “And you, Samantha Atkinson, will help me unlock the power of God.”

“God’s powers are not for mere men!” she exclaimed. Pierre ignored her and focused on the Cave.

Deep down further inside, he saw a statue of a woman – Mary, perhaps – seated cross-legged, hands in a meditative position over her heart. There was a large sapphire where said heart should have been, and two smaller ones in place of the eyes. There were many unlit torches around the statue.

“Legend has it,” Pierre began, “that God Himself created this Cave and stored his power inside it, to be used by the one worthy to be his heir. Jesus himself, perhaps, was buried in this very cave.”

“Jesus would have been that heir,” Samantha protested. “Listen to me! You can’t just try to take the power of God for yourself! It won’t end well!”

Pierre turned and backhanded her sharply. She gasped, her holders dropping her to the floor. One ripped off her blindfold, revealing soft green eyes.

“Do not lecture me, woman,” Pierre said, drawing a pistol. Samantha’s breath caught as he pointed it between her eyes. “Now, either tell me how I can access the power of God, or I will kill you and figure it out myself. You can’t stop me by saying nothing – just delay me for a little while and get yourself killed. Is that worth it?”

Samantha swallowed. “The legend says that God will send upon the world His power when one puts a hand upon the statue’s heart, and wills it to be so. This Power will be sent to protect the needy and defenseless-”

“Semantic bull,” Pierre chuckled. One of his men hit Samantha in the head. “Though why they represented God as a woman when they made this statue eludes me.”

Samantha looked up, and there was a glint of knowing in her eyes, but Pierre ignored her. He walked up to the statue.

“Stupid Multinational,” he muttered. “They always quashed my ideas. Always! I thought we should claim the Power of God for the Company, but no! But no! Money was all that filthy monster commanding us cared for. Money!”

“Please, you don’t know what you’re doing,” Samantha murmured. Pierre paused. “Please. Any sort of thing could happen if you try this. Just walk away.”

“You are trying to prevent me from attaining divinity,” Pierre growled. He heard the sound of a gun butt slamming into flesh, then Samantha’s scream. Pierre ignored her sobs, stepped up to the statue, and raised a hand.

“I desire Your power,” he murmured, smiling, as he put his hand on the sapphire heart.

There was a pulse of blue light – a burst of energy that left him stunned. He began laughing, feeling power course around him –

But not in him. He froze.

“I DEMAND THE POWER OF GOD!” he roared. He spun, ignoring the smoke coating the chamber, and grabbed Samantha. She cried out as he drew a knife.

“Please, no!” she screamed.

“YOU LIED TO ME!” Pierre bellowed, ignoring the facts of his own research. “YOU DID SOMETHING TO IT. YOU DENIED ME MY POWER!” He raised the knife.

“NO!” Samantha cried again.

Something caught Pierre’s wrist. He dropped Samantha, spun around.

A figure wearing a facemask that reminded Pierre of a demon, blue and black cloths wrapped around her – almost like a ninja – was holding his hand. Auburn hair was visible around the mask, as well as incredibly pale blue eyes.

“Ninja?” Pierre breathed, frowning. The figure didn’t respond, simply planting a fist into Pierre’s face with inhuman speed. Pierre fell to the ground.

Gunshots echoed through the chamber, and screaming. There was a pulse of blue light and three of his men came flying through the air into a wall, falling in limp heaps. The gunfire ceased quickly, forms moving through the darkness like ghosts.

Pierre grabbed his pistol, rolled to his feet. The ninja stood by him, raising a pair of fans, of all things. He laughed and fired, ignoring the ninja as it opened the fans and covered its face.

There was a pulse of gray light from the fans when the bullet hit – and it bounced right off. Pierre stared for a half-second, then emptied the gun’s clip at the figure. The fans twisted around in the air, catching every bullet fired.

“What are you?” Pierre demanded. The ninja ignored him, slammed the fans into his head. Pierre cried out at the sudden pain – if was like being hit with rocks.

A sudden sharp pain exploded in his back and he dropped to the ground. Another woman appeared from behind him, wearing a brown shirt and forest-green pants, with a similarly-colored cloak trailing her. She had recovered her rapier, an honest-to-God longbow on her back.

Pierre was aware of Samantha letting out another scream, and a woman’s voice saying something soothing in a language Pierre didn’t know.

Then he slipped away . . . .

You used "x said" too much. Also, having "Samantha shivered" twice in a row looked bad.

...You really don't pay any attention to the UN, do you?

-Nukeknockout

I can barely read the crappy format of the resolutions without wanting to tear the skin of the right side of my neck off because it's twitching so damn much.

Sorry LH but there isn't another NGO slot...although if your willing to wait a few turns, I can wipe Christos out for you.

SR Somalia Withdrawing from the United Nations

"SR Somalia believes in the ideas of sovereignty, dignity, and the right for governments to determine their own policies. The United Nations infringes on all three. No international organizational body should have the right to call for binding treaties certain members do not wish to sign. As such, SR Somalia withdraws from the United Nations and declares certain resolutions passed by the UN to be null and void with Somali borders. We will work with the UN for the purposes of free enterprise and security but we will no longer work within the organization."

I would like to see someone try to conquer me. :) My air force could destroy them in no time flat.

Your giant air force is also causing you to have one of the worst economies

Sorry LH but there isn't another NGO slot...although if your willing to wait a few turns, I can wipe Christos out for you.

Until you find me, my plan to retake China will have succeeded.

Actually Arya, I've decided to allow LH. We have 20 nations so 4 NGOs isn't too bad by comparison.

All he needs to do is pick which state he wants to puppet, provided it was still free at turn start.

As a note: London, Perth, and Venice have all ceased to exist due to annexation.

I'll just say I've got a new feature. I will reveal which state has the strongest of anything, but not by how much.

Land - Siberia
Navy - Coruscant
Air Force - Takrur

Let the guessing game begin.

Having the strongest carries a prestige bonus of extra Industry so keep that in mind.

Takrur's air forces are 34/35% more effective than Kongo's (if I did the math right). However, Kongo is not unduly worried. After all, sheer quantity can sometimes beat quality. Of course, quality can't hurt either.

Therefore, I, Primaire Holt of the Marxist Democratic Republic of Kongo, do hereby declare....

The Kongo Aerospace Agency

This agency will be dedicated to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Kongo's Air Forces. I have selected Anton deGrace to lead the Agency.

I also declare that no funding shall be used to increase the size of our glorious air force. Instead, all funding directed to the KAA will be used to develop techniques to improve our aircraft in the future.

(No orders change this turn, however)

In another vein, I declare that voting for a new motto for the nation has ended.

Le regard tourné vers un avenir prometteur, Looking towards a bright future, has been chosen as our new motto.

Kongo, Le regard tourné vers un avenir prometteur.
