The new infraction system explained

I just think it will mean a lot of regular posters will receive bans for short periods for no real reason, and they may leave.

I echo the little Toad's comments (I'm referring to Paradigm's Avatar, BTW). As well as agree with them.

We are all not machines here, we posters are human too and sometimes make little slip ups. Not just the Moderators on this board.

I'm a humanoid mushroom.

Is this seriously going ahead? Have you actually considered what would happen? The levels of "gamming" the system and the absurd amount of time for an infraction to expire?

Why don't we stick with the old system?

I think some of the more annoying posters have got the message, and calmed down somewhat.

With 12 months for all the points to be cleared, will possibly create more double logins. I can say the chances will be higher if this system is still in place whenever a new Civilization game come out.

I do have a problem with the piracy being 10 points. That's harsh. Even when the word piracy is obvious an misnomer for the word file-sharing. (but we do still have the pm though) :)

- Points expire after 12 months in all cases
- In the event of your death, your points (or ban) will be transfered to your heir's account.
Fixed

It seems to fit right in with the new system.

Thirded.

Why don't we have a poll on who likes/dislikes the new system? That way the mods could see how many are opposed.

Do you think people receive bans for imaginary reasons? It's not like we have a daily quota or (at least in my case) we don't wake up one morning and decide to ban somebody just for the fun of it.

It's 5 freakin' points over an entire years. Absolute peanuts.

Ban people who are actually the problem, not someone who posts something stupid every few months.

It is not harsh; it is the law. If anyone is caught using our PM system for illegal file sharing, they will be permanently banned.

This hurts, but I agree with Perfection.

This is why I proposed making it harder to get the first ban, but easier to get subsequent ones. Raise the threshold for innocent stupidity, and lower it for repeat offenders.

Yes, this is what we're looking at now.

Like I'd already said early in this thread, but I guess nobody bothers to read entire threads these days, before posting their assumptions.

I presume that you are referring to this post:

Yeah, I really like BSmith's idea and have reposted his suggestion in the relevant thread.

Hopefully it'll be revised, along that line of thinking.

Since I didn't have access to the staff discussion forum, and couldn't see how seriously you guys are taking this suggestion (merely posting it might be of questionable worth), I couldn't really assume that said idea was being reworked.

Really though, until you guys say it ain't gonna happen, I feel it's appropriate to express my opinion on the matter.

That's a fair point Perfection and as soon as we can agree on something amongst ourselves, we'll post the revised suggestion.
Don't hold your breath though, we aren't the quickest bunch to agree on things

Does this mean we aren't allowed to talk about Somalia? :p

As I said, I think there ought to be levels of expiration. Instead of the over-all year.
