The new patch breaks savegames + new games don't work too (e.g. no city founding)

I've been hampered by this same problem for nearly a 1.5 weeks. Had just bought it only a month ago, then this happened. Quite unhappy, but the fix worked. Thank you so much, guys. You really have saved me much aggrevation & frustration. Just one Q: Does anyone know why this happened? I mean, I thought the patch was only supposed to change how mods function, not the base game?

Where did you hear that?
There was some preparation regarding mods, but it was never said that it will not affect the rest.
 
G&K is not your average mod, but it is a mod, that would have the potential to change a lot. Timing just stinks when it comes to Civ V. They should have waited on the "patch", or pushed it out earlier. I am not too conspiratorial, but why not allow your selves the ability to help a certain demographic out. Seems to me they wanted every one involved in troubleshooting this adoption.

Perhaps getting every one ready for the new G&K is worth the risk, even if very few people purchased it.
 
Last played 2 nights ago. Well, I tried again tonight and the only games available to load were those committed before G&K installed, i.e. I've lost everything saved since I bought G&K. Any idea what's going on?
 
Pre G&K save games are incompatible with post-G&Ks. You'll have to start anew.

That's the hell of it. I installed G&K on Sunday, played probably about 16 hours with the Greeks over three days saving and loading successfully, and then suddenly when I came to do the same tonight the only options available in the menu were my old games from pre-G&K time.
