The North / South Divide

North south north south north! All within a country that could fit inside Labrador!
It's not just North and South that hate each other. Lancashire & Yorkshire, Wigan & St. Helens, even two schools in my town hate each others guts.
It's what being B RITISH is all about.

As well as having rivals such as the Scottish, Aussies, French, Germans, Welsh, Argentinians, ect, ect

See, Hero's got the idea! When we grumble about someone in Canada, there has to be at least 200km or a provincial (or national ;) ) border between us before we start calling each other names.

Unless, of course, we speak different languages, in which case, its ok to grumble about people closer by...

And if you don't fit either of those restrictions, then both of you can just grumble about the US instead. :)

I think grumbling about the US is what the loyalist movement was founded on

Of course not! YOu have to work at it....

Of course not. It was, as is the rest of this thread, rather tongue in cheek.

 Well hey, we hated Canada for a while, but that got boring and we had to turn our attentions to other countries. Besides, y'all keep sending us comedians, how are we supposed to keep up a good grumble to that?

In a word, "no". Because at the end of the day, there is something quintessentially British about taking the piss out of yourself. And when the North digs at the South of England, that's pretty much what we are doing.

Oh and Hero: Consider yourself reported for almost having to follow on against BANGLADESH!!

You can see by the rpelies by the whinging Poms that this is where the true rivalry lies. Does this score line seem familiar to you guys? 3-1. :mischief:

We're still gonna win. How is the ODI series going in India. :hmm: How many matches have you won in India?

Rivalry is not quite the term. Sympathy or pity is closer to the mark when talking about English sentiments towards Australia.

As for 3-1, isn't that your ratio of sheep to men?

Yeah, it was the score we were beating Germany in Munich shortly before we banged a couple more in.

Unless you are refering to a competative match, it doesn't count.

That do for you Soccerroo?

Well it is the Indian team after all :groucho: Sometimes I don't pass Norman Tebbit's test, especially when it suits me.

The Aussies are like that 12 year old Son you have that think's he's better than his Dad at sport. Until he gets a slapping. :)

That's why we stick to hockey.... ;)
