The NOTW Information Thread

Neat, Sprig. I am thinking about hosting a mNotW after yours, but I am not sure I have the time. It would have to be more 'back to basics', but I don't necessarily think that is a bad thing.
 
Sounds good, One of the things that i am liking about Civplayers Notw is that it is more a more back to the basics one. From what renata has been saying i think it might suit her down to a T without being boring for innocent players.
 
Hi you may remember me if you were here a couple of years ago (I made the NotWW's II game which introduced items and individual goals etc). I'm having some thoughts about making another game - I have a couple of interesting surprises for the game but it's only in its infancy (therefore not confirmed). Just some feedback from players please...

Q: How long is best for "daytime" and "nighttime"? e.g. 24 hours each?

Q: Is there any strategic benefit people have found with the use of secret voices? If you have any examples of how it made the game better (mostly strategically!), perhaps you could link to those examples. I don't want unnecessary clutter in a game...

Day is typically 48 hours and night is 24 hours.

Since I've been playing I don't recall secret voices ever being used.
 
I think you'd have to have specific mechanisms in the game that make it advantageous. Otherwise there's not much point these days.
 
Ive used secret voices several times- most notebly in oyzar's game.
 
That's true. IIRC it was a situation where you wanted everyone to give Sepuku the benefit of the doubt without revealing the identity of the person who was vouching for him.
 
I am also designing an MNOTW. I can do it either as the next one or any time thereafter. I have most of my characters done, an 18 person.
 
Bad Player, there is no standard. In many of the games, most or all of the characters are male, in others there have been equality or even a majority of female chars (Renatas game?).

The players are mostly males. I don't think there are more than 2-3 females in the NotW community, at max...
 
I remember you, Bad Player! Don't think I ever played in any games you were in, though (were you in NotW VII?).

Re: the male/female thing, all NotWs now have blind signups, so the players just say 'in' and the GM picks their character for them out of the ones they've created. So the player him/herself doesn't choose their gender (apart from in special cases like Niklas's game). Honestly I don't know why this is the case, but that's how things go. Not that you couldn't bring character choice back, though...

Secret voices: as Pinman said, he used them in oyzar's game to save a person he knew to be innocent (Sepuku) from lynching without revealing the identity of an important player (the werewolf-curer) or putting himself in undue danger. He also used them to bamboozle the innocents as a wolf in my game. Basically, Pinman uses them, everyone else ignores them. (And Pinman has enough rope to hang us all with as it is.)

NotW II: unfortunately that is the case, along with NotW III-XVI. But Pinman did find this archive that contains the first several posts from all the NotWs except Court of the Crimson King, Children of Stone and Operation Enduring Freedom (:gripe:), so, you know, every cloud.
 
I plan on running my NotW next after Paulus. It will be titled "Dark Radiance". It will combine aspects of a lot of ideas from other NotWs, but it should have a lot of completely new ideas as well. I will try to get a sign-up post up after we are a bit farther through Paulus' game.

edit Looking at the archive it says you were a surviving villager... Did you escape the village using a special mechanic (I remember there was one way to do that...)
