The NOTW Information Thread

We've built up enough of a bank of fairly experienced players that killing strong players often only means that you're picking from 2/3 of the population, rather than all of it. I don't think that's a problem, and I think your solution, especially with the current counter-spam measures, is cumbersome and a real load on the admins.
 
Moderator Action: I've allowed in the past and will continue to allow using some minor cursing in the NOTW games if its done while roleplaying. I've noticed some lately that is being used outside of roleplaying and as attacks on others. Please don't do so. If it continues, then I'll have to go back to not allowing it at all.
 
Let me run this idea by you - to stop 'meta-gaming' whereby the good players are murdered early if they are innocent (to remove their threat to the WWs), I could create 30 new accounts and passwords (e.g. Wainwright Smith) and then give them to the players. This way it's like everyone's at a masquerade!


I've made significant (50%?) headway (ie several pages of brainstorming and some definite ideas) into my 2nd NotW game but I don't want to officially state that it is under design just yet.

If you hosted the game on an offline forums, that would work.

Actually I think we have enough interested members here and in the org that we could probabyl set up our own Mafia forum succesfully. Just throwing away ideas here, but we can have somethine like 500 or even a thousand pm's, we can set up double accounts like you mentioned etc.

But it's just an idea, as right now I don't see any problems with CFC. :)
 
I hope that it would be alright that I start planning on a Fallout variant of the NotW (not to worry, I plan on having this one more better than the Mafia variant). Though its roughly just going to be called NotW: Fallout, A Post Nuclear Werewolf Game

I plan on having various groups within it along with characters to fill the roles
Brotherhood of Steal (innocent though must eliminate Enclave group for victory)
Raiders (Werewolf group)
Enclave (Werewolf group)
Wastelander (general innocent, includes merchants, doctors, vault dwellers, etc)

The Slavers and Super Mutant factions are a bit iffy since I don't wish to overwhelm the innocence with too many werewolves. Plus the Super Mutants within a group of innocence do kind of stickout like a sore thumb and want to have both werewolf factions to be able to have a cover role (though use of them (Mutants and/or slavers) is still open for ether Mafia groups)

Though in this one, I will be more draconian in regards to night and day phases (though close to or more stricter than the EPYC game I am also hosting)

It's still in the works ATM. I'm also looking at previous NotW games to gain some insparation, especially the ones that utalize a multi werewolf group like the X-men ((Friends of Humanity and Brotherhood of Mutants), along with two "protagonist roles" (Non-Mutant innocent & X-Men))

The Raiders and the Enclave players would have cover roles (akin to wolf in sheep's clothing) to blend in with the wastelanders.

The Brotherhood of Steel's goal is to eliminate the Enclave faction while the Wastelander's faction aims to survive and eliminate both Raider and Enclave factions. The Brotherhood of Steel in this game would be more closer to the Capital Wasteland's Branch (Allied to the wastelanders) in Fallout 3 than the ones in FO1 and 2.

Again, as I stated earlyer. I did not want to have a Super Mutant faction since it would be quite difficult for them to be a wolf in sheep's clothing, considering there apperance would give them away.

As for items, that's still in the works since there are going to be chems (non-medical drugs), medical supplies, weapons, and other misc items. Each tailored made wastelander would have a small minor victory goal for them to achive (eg. A Wasteland Junkie aims to get Psycho, A Wasteland Doctor aims to get stimpacks, etc)
 
To add, Im planning to implement a Wrath of God mechanic (Though calling it a Slaver Raid) to lessen the vote the inactives during the days. Just wanted to place that there (Bad enough I had to track inactives in my EPYC game)

Love - I might implement some from Fallout 3 (Vault Dweller finding Father), as well as another vault dweller in having to get a water chip as part of there goal when the item drops happen (though certan other wastelanders will have the same goal as well, to aid in competition for the water chip)
 
Take my name off, I'm going to do it as a Mafia game instead (it will be a lot like the LoTR Mafia game going on now, so it will play very similar to a NoTW game).

WWII + history related Mafia game in development - large number of players. Tone will tend towards the comical and absurd. Not sure when to time it with so many people who sound like they have great games to run as well, plus rea life timing concerns but the idea really came together and the framework is done.

That doesn't totally seem like NOTW - certainly more similar to mafia, but not having all of the info I can't make an accurate call. With regards to the write-ups, how are you planning on putting them together? Something similar to Camikaze's game or ATPG's Monty-Python game where the write-up specifically lists which role did what at night? Or will it be not nearly as revealing, something similar to most of the non-mini NOTW's where only who died gets posted? Also typically NOTW follows the FFH lore, but this is not always strictly the case - my NOTW XXII is one that didn't follow anything FFH like. Also what's your time-line for when to host it? If I added you to the list there's a good chance it might take a year or so to get to, and it sounds like you have most of it done (which reminds me, I should put mine together...).
 
Actually didn't know exactly where to post that, I can clarify a little, if it doesn't belong here I don't mind not cluttering up your thread. Regarding the game I don't want to give away a ton before it's finished/before there's a reasonable time to get the game going anyway. The game will not be FFH based, if that's the typical qualifier for NOTW it's not that. But it will include items, abilities and traits of characters, different victories, and other perks. Also, looking at the Mafia threads here (obviously things get very different/complex in a lot of ways, but it's cool, glad to just have found out this community, also glad this idea seems to fit together) I can't say exactly how it will compare to NOTW games, probably a little less secretive, it won't have a set "lore" of course, and remember the tone of the game would be rather different.

Oh and if you meant if I want it "officially recognized" as NOTW then no, I'm not looking for that, and whoever's next for XXXII etc... can go on, I wasn't thinking like that. But I do have nearly 50 roles pretty well outlined - it's gathering flavor/organization/finishing touches now and I'll just be looking at my academic schedule to be sure I've got 2-3 weeks come later in February/March...and of course I don't want to interfere with other games, not in a hurry, so just giving notice. I know bigger games require more time/players/heads up anyway, and while the roles could fluctuate the total number isn't changing much...

If anyone is dying to know more as a teaser (my first post is, to say the least, a dry description of the game, but see, I'm thinking part of it is the surprise, don't want spoilers/speculations before signups)...or alternatively someone who for whatever reason would not be interested or can't play but wants to hear/see the idea...just PM me. I think I've got a handle on how the balance and feel of the game should go anyway but we've got a lot of experts here, I know, and running an online game will be a new experience (well, I'm still newish to Mafia in general). But I really want to promise it would be fun and exciting.

Edit:Right, I'd give Civgeneral and I think z4ck precedence as they mentioned something...plus I wouldn't want to disappoint if for some reason it wasn't done in a couple of weeks, so I'm not saying I have a concrete timeline, I'll just update when I'm a bit more sure as well.
 
Since it sounds like you're not looking to host a quote NOTW and given the fact you want to run it very soon, I won't add you to the list. Around here typically the mafia crowd doesn't quite have their act together in terms of who's hosting when and in what order (ie - no thread like NOTW has). Usually what it boils down to is whenever someone is ready they host, providing another game isn't already going on. I don't *think* there's any other large mafia style games due soon, so my guess is it would be alright to host yours once Camikaze's finishes. Once his game finishes the who's-hosting-what picture will be more clear.
