The NOTW Information Thread

Actually didn't know exactly where to post that, I can clarify a little, if it doesn't belong here I don't mind not cluttering up your thread. Regarding the game I don't want to give away a ton before it's finished/before there's a reasonable time to get the game going anyway. The game will not be FFH based, if that's the typical qualifier for NOTW it's not that. But it will include items, abilities and traits of characters, different victories, and other perks. Also, looking at the Mafia threads here (obviously things get very different/complex in a lot of ways, but it's cool, glad to just have found out this community, also glad this idea seems to fit together) I can't say exactly how it will compare to NOTW games, probably a little less secretive, it won't have a set "lore" of course, and remember the tone of the game would be rather different.

There are others such as NotW "Dark Radiance" which are not based on FFH lore. Basically it's just a style of gameplay which is more complex than mafia games (involving ideas such as items, personal goals, etc). Really the LotR game is a NotW game not a mafia game.

The reason I think NotW became loosely synonomous with FFH lore is because most of the early players were from the FFH community. They then went on to make other NotW games but (understandably) kept using FFH lore. Obviously that's changing now that it is becoming more open to non-FFH players!

I'm curious as to what you mean "less secretive" - NotW is definitely about being secretive, treacherous, and ruthless!

Earthling, it sounds like you are a lot farther along with your game than I am with mine, so feel free to go ahead and start yours first.

BTW, mine is a Star Wars game. Trying to keep number of roles under 50.

Well, yes...I meant GM provided information will be more similar to the writes up I've seen in the "mafia" games around here - also I saw ATPG Monty Python game and that one looked hilarious. Also...given the unique nature of the game there will be a lot of players thinking they can "guess" other players' roles and abilities...don't want to spoil that now. I'll just keep working on it, thanks for the support all, and of course, good luck to you too z4ckdabeast, I'm sure your game will be great.

Quick question in regards for the mafia roles that I am assigning to my game that I am developing. Do I as the GM write up the full kill story or let the individual who has the mafia role write up the kill story?

In NOTW the GM does all of the write-ups.

Ahh, that makes it so much easier than relying on the Mafia to provide a write up of his kill :).

And no clues from the style of writing/vocab/fluency of english. It's a much better system.

I have a question.

Say Person A decides to protect Person B during the night. They are both attacked by Mafia.

What happens?

I would say that Person A dies, Person B survives. It's really up to the GM though I think...

Set up rules for as many such situations as you can think of, and stick to them.

Or, just make a no-power game. Then it's easy. :)

I was thinking, what about a mafia game with hitpoints? With the x amount of accusations left on someone at the end of the day taking the x amount of hitpoints?

When you reach 0 you die.

I volunteer to help Zack.

If someone wants to help me organize an NotW game in .org be my guest :).

I mostly need role names...

Just wondering, how are all you groups of two going about making and running a NotW? Like how do you split up the work load, what will each person do once the game actually starts, etc.?

I'll be looking forward to your game choxorn and Zack - just to be clear, are you guys going to be ready to start soon-ish? After Camikaze's game in March sometime? I will hold off now and I'd be fine continuing to hold off until after you're done if you have it worked out where both of you will be around and ready.
