The Obama gun ban list is out

I'm confused. I thought under feudalism the head of state did indeed own all the land in his demesne, and his vassals held it only with his permission. And that this kind of liege lordship continued all the way down the line. It did only apply to land, though, didn't it?

In theory. In practice it doesn't seem to much have existed like that. But to generalize, the lords owned, everyone else did what they were told. Very much a free market system, actually. :mischief:

Feudal tenure meant that radical title to lands within the royal demesne was held by the Crown; basically, William the Conqueror had ownership over all the lands in England. Or perhaps more relevantly, William was Lord Paramount of all land in England and it was all held by virtue of the Crown; land not held by virtue of the Crown was held by allodial title. This meant that the Crown could assign parcels of land as it pleased. But this is essentially the fictional basis of land tenure today too (which is why land is resumed by the Crown (eminent domain for Americans)). Doesn't mean land was literally held only at the King's whim now or then, and it's absurd to say a free market system can't coexist (seeing as it plainly does and has).

I'm very disappointed in this thread... it was supposed to be our 1,345th thread about the 2nd Amendment, and you guys have turned into some sort of historical civics lesson.

Back on track!

Here's another example.

Someone said, a dragunov! That's a sniper rifle! Well, barely hahahaha. First off, it sucks in comparison to other rifles, commonly used in hunting as well as sniping, such as the Remington 700.

Hunting rifles... they are designed to shoot, with accuracy, at a great distance.
Sniper rifles... they are designed to shoot, with accuracy, at a great distance.
Same freaking thing people.

And ofcourse the 2nd amendment hasn't got anything to do with civics... Right.

In the ACT I believe all land is owned on 99 year leases rather than owned in perpetuity.
