Got the game, its great and having a ton of fun
 
Got it about an hour ago....playing the training session now. The only problem on install that I had was with DirectX. Fortunately I know enough to trust what comes with the game so I installed DX that came with the game before panicking and all is well. I foresee many a support call to Firaxis for that one problem alone.

Beyond that I've run into a few glitches with the game seemingly stalling for a few seconds (in the training session.) And at one point I couldn't click continue on Sid's window without being in a city. :eek: Odd.


Oh on a side note. Best feature of the game? In game clock and alarm by far. This is going to save my sorry but from oversleeping in the morning. :D :D

Dell Optiplex GX270
-2.8Ghz Pentium 4 (HT turned off.)
-1.5GB system RAM
-120GB SATA hard drive
-Original SB Audigy
-GeForce 6800 GT 256MB
-Windows XP w/ SP2
 
I'm not going to be the drama queen of the day, but I had a bit of drama today. I pre-ordered the game with 2-3 day delivery. Could not stand waiting to Friday for delivery, so bought a standard release today from EB local.

The game didn't like my video card at all, the pointer flickered and the land was dark. Was about to go to outer suberbia to buy a video card then realized that Staples who's in the neighborhood might have a video card, and sure enough they did have video cards. Bought a 128k card, Verto from GForce, cost $99 + tax. Removed the inadequate video card from my Dell. Instal new card. Game runs GREAT! Dell computer lays on its side because the video card has a TV thingie that doesn't fit the Dell case. The installation directions call for hooking up the power supply to the video card. WTH no way I can do that. I'm playing the game now so what if I burn up the video card .....Might also burn up the mother board!
 
got it after school today (had a half-day, so that means around 1:30 i was walking out of the gamestop w/ my civ4)
 
Got mine tonight at Metrotown Mall during my lunch break, and I'm about to install it now!

I was lucky, too. The guy in front of me in the line-up also preordered, but he didn't get the call (not everyone who pre-ordered got their copy today) and will have to wait until tomorrow, the poor sucker.
 
Went to 2 Gamestops, EB games, Circuit City, and CompUSA and none of them had it. The closest I got was a pre-order box at Gamestop. I'm going to try Fry's Electronics tomorow.
 
You guys are lucky. :) I am still waiting for my copy from Amazon. I checked the status earlier and the expected delivery date is November 3rd. That's what I get for picking free shipping.
 
I bought mine at Best Buy. My Amazon order hasn't shipped yet.
 
I'm jealous! I've got the thing sitting on my desk, just can't get past the big "You-shouldn't-have-used-an-ATI-graphics-card-you-dodo" startup error! :eek:
 
i just checked my amazon order webpage and the statues has changed from "item has not yet shipped" to "item is shipping soon" YAY! :D

anyone else get their copy from amazon?

i think i'd be emberassed asking anyone to take a picture of me picking it up at the mail office but maybe i'll take a self-portrait of my glee in the privacy of my room...

oh, one more thing...it seems like the west-coast has taken just a bit longer to get it...anyone want to troll this thread to map out the spread of civ4 copies across the US? (i suppose i could do that tomorrow while waiting for my copy ;)

i'm pretty sure you can change that option if you want pay for shipping
 
It's ok. I have been playing the game for a long time, so no rush. ;) Don't really have time to play games much in the next several days also...

I ordered mine from Amazon as well and I'm expecting to get it by November 1st. That is, if the payment goes through; I had my mother pay for my copy with her credit card but she lost it during someone's wedding. She was able to find it but in the mean time the company cancelled her card...so hopefully she's going to sort the whole thing out before my order is cancelled. I don't want to get stuck with the regular edition after pre-ordering my copy way back on the 6th. :rolleyes:

Same here. :rolleyes: But BOY would I've been angry had I gotten my copy today just to find out it won't rund due to my ATI gc. And BOY will I be happy when I get my copy Nov 3rd and the fix is out *waves an admonishing finger@ATI&Firaxis* :mischief:
 
Well, reading all this has got me curious!

My mission today is to hit the highstreet in Glasgow and get my copy of CIV4!!!

Mercade who lives in the Netherlands has already Civ4 and I who live in Austria can wait one week, although I have ordered it through amazon.de?

Why do I have to waiiiiiiiiiit. Has anyone good ideas to survivr this time?
