Leoreth, I am fairly sure France is this strong due to settling Brest instead of Cherbourg, the first of which gets more food and does not choke Paris. I think Rennes (1E) would be an in between. Perhaps the French settler map should be altered to make Cherbourg less likely and either one of these the most common city, like Santiago for Spain.

That super-Egypt and that random Mali colony in the Caribbean look far more interesting to me.
Or am I wrong and that's just a regular Spanish colony?

France starts with only 2 settlers, as it's supposed to flip Marseilles or Lyon, depending on the start. However, Lyon is often raised, if not by the Romans, by the Celts or Barbarians. And Marseilles can be raised quickly by the Spanish if they get lucky with Barcelona.

France should get 3 settlers for the 3000 BC start. Not once have I ever seen a Gallic city survive the Migration Period.

well, i decided to play some Inca. im still using the latest full patch, so no new stuff for me.

i start on Stone, build up 5 cities, then ended up settling a 6th because free settler(first real honest play of them).., so it got settled 1W of the Oil and 1S of the Clams in Venuevula(in order to allow easy reinforcement and access to Oil.

1369 AD: Italy of all nations makes contact first. luckily, the conquer trigger doesn't activate. Which means thats one good thing...

No, it's not spain, nor is it France, Norway, England, Porugal, or HRE(who own a city 1N of Gibraltar for some reason), its a 3 city, completely inclosed by foreign culture, weakling.

Genova on the (free) stone is better IMO. Less choking of Venezia and Roma and a virtually guaranteed culture flip of Marsiglia if it's your capital. Not like the AI cares about that doe..

The even worse part is that it is a rename of the Roman city Diaroritum on taking by the French. Diaroritum is where Rennes is, not Rennes-le-Château.

So we obviously need to add Flat as a rename of a Spanish owned Anchorage.

If you think I know every corner of the code you're severely overestimating my knowledge. I mostly avoid the CNM because it's such a mess, but now I have made it my task to copy every rename entry into a dictionary to get rid of the huge if/else blocks.

There's just so much weird stuff accounted for in this module that you'll never see in game that I don't know whether I should be impressed with Rhye's love for detail or simply doubt his sanity.

Darioritum (not Diaroritum) is the modern city of Vannes, not Rennes. Rennes was called Condate.

I was referring to the CNM, and there is a Roman city that gets called Diaroritum (probably meant to be Darioritum) when they settle on the spot which when France settles it gets named Rennes, which when taken by the French gets renamed Rennes-le-Château.

Rennes-le-Château is much farther from Vannes than Rennes geographically, and with Rennes generally being the more important French city in the area, is quite understandable.
