The "OMG! Look what happened in DoC!" Thread

TRIPOLANDTANIA, or Poland in exile. Like the Empire of Brazil in our timeline. Captured Tripoli. Lost Krakow. Captured Oran. They survived until end of game in 1940.

I did not know we were playing IOT X (one of the nations in that IOT was the Third Polish Union. it was located in the exact same place as you see here.)

I think it would have been better if they were Zoroastrian. Displaced Islamic Poland in North Africa, Turkey, the Caucasus or Arabia is just too common.

I am surprised we have not seen Tibet doing something similar with their UU. Every now and then a city in Africa, but otherwise not too much.

I'd make a 'proof that Poland is in North Africa' joke right now but this thread has seen enough of those.

I think Mexico/Aztecs needs to have a timed respawn if the Human player is America.

Just a first step towards full scale Decolonization. A necessary one.

Once upon a time I still played American starts where all Mexico is controlled by a European civ (usually Spain or England). Now I just re-roll - it's too much trouble and not very enjoyable at all.

I don't know if I'd make an entirely new Mexican civilization, since they're not all that expansive in real life, but I could see making/borrowing a Benito Juarez leaderhead and having the Aztecs respawn around 1810-1820 to represent their independence. Just for the sake of completeness, I think his favorite civic should be republic, since we need more of those, and he should turtle a lot.

No screenshot (I don't have patience to upload one), but as the Byzantines I was wiping Islam off the face of the planet (moving eastwards towards Iran and India and Indonesia, then into Mali). Meanwhile, France went through my territory and took every single independent city surrounding me. I had a -8 "Our borders are close" diplomatic penalty against France... In 1700

The Byzantines are doing surprisingly well in my current game: it's 1650, and not only are they still in existance, but they've actually got a pretty big empire. They're the tech leaders too.

They also had Babylon until it went independent a few turns before I took that screenshot.

^Tibet somehow acquired some kind of military, they even had a knight. Of course I destroyed the whole thing with the 3 troops in that galleon there so they weren't exactly a powerhouse.

After raping, pillaging, and looting my way through England, France, and Germany for my Viking UHV, I kept playing to see who would fill the razed areas. At first the Holy Roman empire (debased to Austria and Italy) seemed to be recover, but then they collapsed. By the 17th century, Spain took France, the Netherlands expanded a little into Germany, and eastern Germany fell into Byzantine hands. Also notice that the Byzantines completely displaced the Ottomans, banishing them to Crimea:

A few turns later, Wien changed to Poland, but the Byzantines kept on taking more of Germany and Italy:

This crazy Byzantine Empire managed to collapse Arabia quite early and has also expanded to the south:

hats off to the byzies here. they successfully managed to be something

Changed my name when the game was starting up. I don't like a mythological figure like Ragnar being the leader of Scandinavia, it's like king Arthur leading the English.
