The "OMG! Look what happened in DoC!" Thread

I am about 2 turns to complete 2 SS engines, which was my last spaceship part. I researched every tech for space race.

My strategy:

Luoyang, Shanghai, Fuzhou(on stone), 4th city is Lu'er-dao(Kagoshima, Japan gold), and 5th Qingsen(Aomori, Japan silver). Oracle currency; research machinery and build the grand canal ASAP. 2 Japan city build nothing but workers and settlers (let'em flip when Jap spawns); conquer India about turn 160-170. Build Mauseleum of Mausollos (conquer Persia to get Z'ism), forget UHV #1 and you can get near-perpetual golden age.

If you are interested, try my savefile... I researched steel & railroad by 1150, Mongols are not even a threat. But when Mughal spawns, bug happened - they got no tech and no unit, only flipped Delhi and didn't flip their flip zone. This made my game less solid.

By the way, I got about +60 stability at military. Nobody is my match. It felt good when I massacred English & French trading company stacks with bomber, infantry and tanks.

The only explanation I have for that is that they recently respawned in Pantheon and other similar civics, which they seemED perfectly fine with, because they never switched out of them.

Yup. Greece will keep running Pantheon until all Pantheon wonders are built. So, if they respawn with Pantheon (because they died running it) and at least one Pantheon wonder wasn't built, they'll stick with it. The Colosseum is the most-missed Pantheon wonder, and it also never obsoletes (unlike others, like the Great Library, that are also often missed).

Shouldn't the Portuguese city in Guangdong be called Macao?

Given that it's on their stability map, it's not overall that surprising... but it's the first time I've ever seen them actually go and settle it.

Edit: Same game, and Norway, Poland, and the HRE, as well as Russia, Byzantium, and Ethiopia are Orthodox. There are two Catholic civs: me and Portugal.

AI doesn't like trading for bee-lined techs. And you thought it was stupid ...:p

It's not a side effect of the Chinese UP. It's a separate game mechanic. China (human or AI) is blocked from trading techs on which it has a monopoly. Otherwise, the Chinese UP would cause the whole world's tech rate to speed up massively.
