The "OMG! Look what happened!" Thread

I didn't get taught as much about it than the average American, but iirc the Colonies broke away to get rid of this particular oppressive Monarchy, not Monarchy in general. I recall vaguely there were even some voices that wanted to crown Washington. But it seems they didn't want to run into the same problems somewhere in the future.

Were they even against the Monarchy itself? I swear the argument was over taxation and that the "Americans" tried to make it clear their quarrel was with Parliament, not the King?

However the King threw all that out of the window and declared the Thirteen Colonies to be in rebellion and sent the Navy. Great guy :p

Yes, some wanted to crown G. Washington, but my point was that they broke away because of a monarchy but switch to monarchy, a bit contradictory...

And yes few wanted to make Washington a King, there is even a painting of what Washington would have looked like as a King, but Washington would not accept it.

My Germanies in DoC never seem to collapse, and generally wind up as a superpower.

Yeah Germany can get powerful, but so can spain.

i always see uber-germany, or at least super power germany, but that's the reason they collapse sometimes, and we can use that for our advantage, i already saw a Uber-Germany (AI) that spammed from France to almost Muscow, from Scandinavia northern tip to anatolia, and was invading (with sucess) Spain and Russia at the same time. but then after taking a lot of these territories they collapsed together with Spain :) i guess Russia was like...:woohoo:

1 Good Job Vikings
2 WTH no conquerors!

about the conquerors, you only get it if you've meet the astecs or incas in their core area, if you for example meet the astecs when you saw a scout in USA east coast then you won't get conquerors when you get to mexico.
you can't meet them until your boat gets to mexico! if you do then bye free units :p

You will never be able to get a conqueror if they had any contact outside America on or before 1300AD, but in return, they only get the nasty plagues. :)

not sure how common this is but in my game as japan New Orleans got conquered from the French by some natives and then the Chinese conquered it from the natives.

So for 4-5 turns before China collapsed and the Americans took over, there was a Chinese New Orleans.

Just downloaded Dawn of Civilizations (thanks for the cool mod, Leoreth). You know how sometimes Babylon survives rather late into the game? Well...

German conquerors isn't too uncommon, but this is still pretty impressive in my eyes.

The poin is that i met them in their core area and didn't get conquerors, the same thing happened with incas.

I find that I have to have my boat end its movement right next to land, or at least inside their borders, in general I end the movement before I get into contact prematurely, or pick a route that I know will work. Also, what is the year? If its too early, you wont get it (although since the aztecs are there it doesn't seem likely).

The conquerors are just plain glitchy for me.

Super-Scandanavia isn't that out of the ordinary, but the French Inverness and Norse Iceland... Huh.

This was the real shocker for me. Son, I am impressed.

I've seen the French control Scotland before but I've never seen the Vikings have over like 6 cities without collapsing. (Scand. owning Iceland is quite common if they had a city in Scotland.)

Edit: God I can't believe I'm up at 6:40 in the morning stupid insomnia

your probably right about the boat ending its turn next to land, the year was 1450 something and I've gotten conquerors as early as the 1300s so that shouldn't be a problem.

I want to see AI Spain take over the Netherlands... Anyone ever seen that?
