Looks more like a DoC bug :D

Well, I did an extremely quick and sloppy playthrough on DOC viceroy, but I conquered everything from Arabia to Tibet. Sadly, I just got the plague, and my empire collapses into civil war next turn even though it is only shaky. Also, the Mongols are about to show up.

But if you press enter a few times... Free Mongol empire!

Hope you all like it! ^.^

Spoiler :

China has far-flung influence indeed...

Pfff. In my current game (playing as Russia on a 3000BC unlocked start), Byzantium is Taoist.

***

Also (and I'm sure this isn't really that unusual, but it came out of the blue after many centuries of peace):

Soon my numberless minions will destroy you all! (Ghandi declares war!)

Evil Gandhi is around for quite a while already:

I never noticed that

Ok, another report from my current game.

A little bit of background:
Spoiler :
As mentioned, I'm playing as Russia.

I'm currently at war with the Mongols, the Indians (and their vassals Khymer), France (and their vassals Netherlands), and Japan, all who declared war with me within the last hundred years or less.

However, none of them are a major military threat: the Mongols are too low tech, Germany won't sign open borders with France/Netherlands, and the Turks are blocking the route to the Indians.

My main military threat seems to be the Germans and the Turks, both of whom are at peace with me, but are "Annoyed", and I have enough of a tech lead that I'd be worried about them taking a city (and so losing my UHV) if they decided to DoW.

The most critical threat comes from the Japanese, as they are only 50 years from completing their UHV, so I need to build up a force large enough to plough through the Mongols and capture at least one Japanese city.

Anyway, its 1796, I need to take a Japanese city to deny their UHV, I'm already at war with multiple civs on two fronts, and fear a sneak attack by the Germans and/or the Turks.

I normally avoid Mutual Defence Pacts, because I find that's just a grand-sounding name for "Agree to get dragged into a massive war, probably against people you are currently on good terms with". However, I decided that in this case, the risk of war against a major power was already high enough that I'd want to sign one just to ensure at least one of my frontiers was safe, and that I'd get some help if needed. The Turks (my most serious rivals) didn't want one, the Vikings (my best friends) didn't want one either, so I signed one with Bismark.

France already had a pact signed with Mali and the Vikings; so did the Turks and the Mongols.

Then, two turns later, the Romans respawned:

1802 AD: Rome has declared war on you!
1802 AD: Germany has declared war on Rome!
1802 AD: Germany has declared war on France!
1802 AD: Vikings has declared war on Germany!

1802 AD: Deal canceled: Horse to Ragnar for gold per turn (7)
1802 AD: Deal canceled: Cow to Ragnar for gold per turn (2)
1802 AD: Deal canceled: Open borders to Ragnar for Open Borders
1802 AD: You have declared war on Vikings!
1802 AD: You have declared war on Aztec!
1802 AD: Aztec has declared war on Germany!
1802 AD: Mali has declared war on Germany!

1802 AD: Deal canceled: Deer to Mansa Musa for Gold Per Turn (2)
1802 AD: Deal canceled: Iron to Mansa Musa for Ivory, Gold Per Turn (2)
1802 AD: Deal canceled: Open Borders to Mansa Musa for Open Borders
1802 AD: You have declared war on Mali!
1802 AD: Germany has declared war on Netherlands!

1802 AD: Rome has agreed to become a vassal state of France
1802 AD: Germany has made peace with Rome

1802 AD: Roman cities have declared their independence from foreign domination!
1805 AD: Rome converts to Christianity!

Not "OMG!" in the sense that its bizzare or absurd, but I think it qualifies in the "ah, crud" sense.

Gee, thanks Rome! What have I ever done to you?

(Fortunately, this might not be as serious as it looks. As long as I can defend St Petersburg against the Vikings, all my new enemies are either too far away or too weak to be a real threat, and with the Germans acting as a buffer to the west, I may even be in a better position to concentrate on the Mongols/Japanese than I was before).

Edited to add: oh, and a couple of turns later, a congress was called. Bismark demanded St Petersburg, won due to so many civs hating me, and the declared war when I refused. On the plus side, Suleman is now a little friendlier towards me, on account of "our mutual military struggle", and finally agreed to an Open Borders agreement for the first time in history.

Whoa. I have never had that happen for me, even with free religion or with Arabia.

It's my first Reply, but I have to post what I have seen.

I played with Japan. Everything were fine. I build a fairly decent army in the case if China want to attack me, and I even begin think about how can I colonize California.

It was at 960 AD and I got a message. Somebody discovered the liberalism. WTH???
I open the wold builder, and I find that the Greek was who discovered liberalism. And that wasn't all. They even product cannons at AD 960.
It wasn't a great empire, they have only one big city and two small.

Anybody have this kind of experience before?

Yes. That said, I usually have that experience when I'm playing Greece - I find the AI doesn't quite go that fast ;)

Are you playing with an older version of the game?

They probably got the parthenon, and if they're that advanced as to have cannons and liberalism, probably the leaning tower too. combine that with their up and explosive culture, and you have a recipe for anachronistically long lasting hellenic states :/

I was going for Aztec UHV, and I founded Havana. I didn't want to pay maintainance so I gave it to Incans (Even though they Declared war for some reason the next turn:confused:). Just before, the Turks came with caravels but I avoided the conqurors. Incans got the event later.
