The pre-AFSNES I.

I refuse to respond based not on my distance, but rather on the fact that I hate you as a person (in character, naturally). Sorry, the Athanoi are very honest people and I just thought you should know.

In character? Damn... No excuse to take this outside...

*rolls down sleeves and looks disappointed*.

The deadline is usual time, 2nd of August. And I'm happy that we finally have more people joining in.

I think a named map is in order :p

I think a better name for your nation is in order. ;)

About the whole diplomacy debate - it usually would be psosible to send a short-term embassy just about aynwhere you've heard of, and most nations have at least heard of the others in the Old World, or at least those lying on the main trade routes. Contact isn't impossible.

Making something practical out of it usually is, however. The Romans you had mentioned had very intense trading relations with India, but next to no diplomacy there. It is indeed generally difficult to conduct long-distance diplomacy in this time period.

But not impossible, ofcourse. One could also bring up the example of Byzantines contacting Central Asian tribes to stab Persia in the back. So I suppose that if a nation really does need to establish a real diplomatic contact, it usually can do that much, and a simple agreement to kill some mutual neighbour isn't all that hard to achieve.

At the same time, what diplomacy I *have* noticed to be going on generally makes sense, within the short term (and that can often influence the long term in unexpected ways).

the missionary efforts - were shrugged off as largely unsuccessful

In the beginning, yes. Within time these things changed a bit...

After the pre-AFSNES is over, the AFSNES will start. AFS stands for Advanced Fresh Start, which is what we're setting up right now. The real NES will feature actual rules, with stats for economy, army sizes and quality, education, stability, etc. The turns will be much shorter in span, probably 5 years in a turn or so. That's when all the fun maneuvering and politicking can start for real. ;)

Yes. Furthermore, I plan to introduce some more stuff (technological and political, largely) to spice things up and generally allow for greater chaos.

If anyone should be having a god-complex, i think it should be one of those great emperors in china or india!

Neither India nor China had as much opportunity for that as in OTL. Sumerians, on the other hand...

I'm tempted to start summarising the technological and religious state of the world at present, but it will probably be best to wrap all of those developments up at the end of the pre-NES, as there still are many things that will likely change quite soon.

As a word of warning - I was foolish to say that the dark age would come during the fifth update. If it will come, it will be in the sixth, because from what I already know of player plans and those of my own, well... there will be quite a mess, especially in the west.

we do try our hardest :p

I win *gloating*.

I deserved that.

Then just wait till the current king dies then contact him.

Can you still join?

Sure, why not?

Unlike you two I can't say the same :p Everything that's been done by moi truly has all crumbled to be usurped by other.... less savory nations. ;) Everything has taken a 180 degree turn from the beginning as my nation is admittedly so weak, disunited and etc etc.

I despise this East Asia passionately :king:

Why? your state is still around, unbroken continunity but with a new name. Usually east Asia just has you and maybe Bananalee, this one is better.

im currently fighting myself through the nation reservations.. Is there any list? And is the Armenia region still free?

Nope, no list. :p Most of the presently-existant civilised nations are taken, except in the New World where only Danipaguache (the green nation) is. So you should probably try and start something new.

They are? who is incharge of the ones in and around China?

Okay, I was exaggerating. I suppose that a lot of nations in the Far East aren't taken neither.

I just realized that this thread didn't start two days ago, but an entire month ago :D. Well, I guess I will wait for the next das NES..

I'd advise against that, as this one is yet to even begin. I suppose you could always jump in when it does start for real.

Those updates are actually just developing a setting. After that, the real NES begins.
