The Real World NES

Actually, NK, of all the NESers you strike me as the lincolniest (I really do like creating neologisms...). :p

I think that he might make a nice Roosevelt - either of the two. Not really sure about Truman, but that could work as well.

Oh no, I'm very authoritarian in NESing style. It's just... I'm rather more inclined to diplomatic solutions than Symphony, so unlike Lincoln who simply tried to avoid getting other people on the CSA's side, I would actively seek out nations to be on my side of the war. Symphony, by contrast, wars usually on his own if at all possible.

I had Disenfranchised pegged for FDR, interestingly enough. I still haven't got myself pegged for anything.

Here's my list so far:

George Washington: Jason the King
John Adams: Stormbringer
Thomas Jefferson: Azale
John Madison: Dachspmg
John Monroe: Cuivienen (minus the whole gender thing, of course  :p)
Andrew Jackson: andis-1
James K. Polk: Insane_Panda
Abraham Lincoln: Symphony D.
Ulysses S. Grant: emu
Chester A. Arthur: alex_994
Franklin D. Roosevelt: Disenfranchised
Dwight D. Eisenhower: das
Lyndon B. Johnson: Erik Mesoy
Richard Nixon: ~Darkening~

Some of them might seem odd, but I have my reasons. :p

Oh, now that's a damn lie. I seek all available advantages. I just prefer to control the troops myself. Less mistakes that way. ;)

I would like to see of these explanations, out of curiosity.

I can understand andis as jackson I suppose for his military experience? And Darkening as Nixon for paranoia? :p Das seems a little more proactive than Eisenhower and Stormy more successful than Adams. Not saying you're wrong, I'm just curious as to your reasoning :)

Why on earth am I Arthur? I know he did a bunch of reforms clearing out corruption but how does that fit me?

Now that is a sentiment I really disagree with. Can't you people deal with nations rather than with players?
Added to the fact that Teraden was considerably weaker than Ilion, and that it didn't have as much potential as a good ally.

Who is Andrew Jackson?
"Old Hickory"; a pretty good general (who won the Battle of New Orleans and basically annihilated a lot of Brits just after the War of 1812 ended) and a rather authoritarian president who was called "King Andrew I" by some because of his very high-handed playing around with (and subsequently destroying) the US economy during the 1830s banking crisis; also founder of the modern Democratic Party.

It does sound very apropos, no?

BTW, I think Madison for me isn't a bad comparison, although I'm not a very American-style player. ;)

Littleboots hit in on the mark with Harrison.

Andrew Jackson was also one of the worst things to happen to the Amerindians of the US from the founding of the country. In order to carry out the Trail of Tears he went behind the back of the Supreme Court and broke inumerable treaties. In my opinion he was one of the worst presidents we have ever had, even if he was an exraordinary general.

Nonsense! Andrew Jackson was one of our finest presidents and extremely popular in his time. Yes, he ordered Scott to force the Amerindians to leave but he was also a man of the people! He supported the poor farmers out west against the wealthy east.

I should remind you, George Washington, our founding father, did order the complete destruction of the Iroquois in order to secure his lines against the British. Men must do what they believe is right in their times regardless of what the future will say about them. We can't go around our lives worrying about history will say about us, only do the best job we can with our morals and ideals.

Some people have their heads up in the sky thinking about what history will say about them while others dam*ed the future and concentrated on the present. Andrew Jackson was such a person, and despite his ah... reputable traits and actions, he was an excellent man.

EDIT: Actually, after just looking it up it was actually his successor who forced the Trail of Tears, Martin Van Buren. Not much but a technicality.

First, don't you mean "disreputable"? Second, although I am one of the most apolitical Americans in existance, I must say that I think that Andrew Jackson was probably one of the worst presidents in American history not because of any domestic policy regarding natives of one kind or another, or his slightly fake "populist" policy, or his haphazard marriage history, but because of his singlehanded destruction of the American economy, mainly through his singleminded (or pigheaded) bent on the end of the Second Bank, whose collapse forced America into a recession for much of the thirties and a small chunk of the early forties.

(Ironically, the serious damage done to the economy are - at least superficially - paralleled by at least two andis nations: the NES2 V HRE and the NES2 VIb Romania, although those were mainly due to "breaking" eco levels, in one case to get more troops, and in the other to finish his project faster.)

This really isn't the place to argue about Andrew Jackson, though. There are much better places to do that.

The fellow on the US$20 note.

If it's any comfort, I can't tell my Washingtons from my Bushes. Where I come from, rulers last long enough for me to remember them :p

Richard Nixon: ~Darkening~

I believe this was more of a personal jab, than real comparison, wasn't it ;]?

I associate NK as more of a George W. Bush......then anything else......;]..........
