The Realms Beyond - Succession Game Discussions

Hi Speaker - I'd be interested in participating in your SG.

It would be my first SG, but in SP I'm regularly able to win on Monarch...

You can see my Adv 2 and 4 reports posted on the RB site.

Thanks for the consideration (in advance)! :)

Welcome Yosh and Methos. We are now full, roster edited on the previous page. Look for the start tonight.*

*Author assumes no responsibility for any interpretation of the word "Tonight." Discretion therein is his alone, and may mean tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday, or even Monday, depending on what his weekend looks like.

Scowler, Silver, Liq, I've updated the rules a bit to simplify their concept and usage. Other details have been solidified.

Diplomacy will be allowed in case we want to honor any loyal vassal civilizations with continued existence at our end-game.

Also, Scowler, Liq has notified me S.ilver will be out of town until March 20th. I'll wait to start this game until around then. So don't hold your breath with this game :)

Finally, I have a loose 24/72 hr window of opportunity for report in and gaming. I believe when you're upfront about when you can and cannot play, we'll have a smooth and enjoyable game for everyone.

That's fine by me. RL has been a little busier than expected this week, so a small delay will allow me to sort things out so that I can give this game the attention it deserves.

Guys, my Always War game has perished due to lack of oxygen. So much time has passed since I conceived of the game that (for the moment) I've lost the urge that originated it. I also don't expect to have the necessary time -- and this assumes the patch actually does come out this year.

I appreciate everybody who signed up. I will probably want to do this, eventually, and everybody who was signed up gets first dibs on resigning. ... Uh, wait. That doesn't sound so good if you read it quickly. I mean to say first dibs on RE-signing (up).

However, for the moment, consider this game (or any SG games involving me) to be on indefinite hiatus.

Meanwhile, I have ended the three month drought of official RBCiv activity by launching Adventure Five. My apologies to everybody I let down by allowing this vacuum to exist. I hope those of you who decide to play will have a good time. :)

When the next patch is out, I intend to start a LARGE MAP Always War game on Prince, Epic Speed. Looking for five regulars (including me) and three alternates, with anybody who played Civ3 AW games with me getting "go to the head of the line" treatment. (Seniority hath its privileges!) Also, a military win on Monarch or better is strongly recommended.

Lurkers REQUEST:

The patch is out, so get this party started:) I'm sure half of the new Sgers on CFC are here because of RB1 (just check # of views) so don't waste a great chance to gain even more activity by launching another sure-to-be classic!

The patch is out, but the moment passed. (See the post right above yours).

I do plan to play more SGs eventually, though.

I saw the post, but still wanted to put the subject to question, because I seriously looked forward to following that SG, as I think many others did.
Didn't mean to pressure you, Sirian. (maybe just a little ;) )

Anyway, there are a lot of other quality Sgs to follow, and the adventure 5 reports are due on monday, so we'll probably live:)

Well, it's been almost two months since the last Realms Beyond SG. Although there is a rampant increase in tourney events over the last few weeks (it seems as though Sirian might be compensating for several months without them), I think RB needs to have a fresh SG.

So, I wil be hosting.

The Game:

Upon studying Marx, Lenin and Stalin today, in my history class (p.s. All UCLA students: DO NOT TAKE History 22C! It's horrific), I thought about the other side on the left.

Yeah, the hippies.

The peace-loving, smoketacular, politically-active, rock-and-roll-listening-to people of ... the time long before I was born. In a completely flagrant disregard of anyone who was actually hippie, this game will be played under the Hippie variant, as designated by me.

The Rules:

1. WE MAY NOT EVER DECLARE WAR! Never if asked by another civ. Never. Ever. If we are ever attacked, we can defend ourselves, but we cannot wage an offensive war. We can take on the barbs, though.

2. Our Civics must be as 'free' as possible. That means that we cannot use the following 'restrictive' civics: Police State, Vassalage, Nationhood ("Hell no! We won't go" indeed), Slavery (we may have slavery instituted, but cannot whip) , Serfdom, Mercantilism and Theocracy. The encouraged Civics choices (methinks) would be Universal Suffrage, Free Speech, Emancipation, Environmentalism and Free Religion.

3. We must be politically active. Just cause we're pacifists don't mean that we take stuff lying down. Au contraire we are allowed to ask for help, demand things, etc. Our leaders before us didn't take no guff! We also help everyone who asks for it. Man that's way cool.

4. We cannot build Barracks or Drydocks. Military units are ok, but a barracks is offline. Our army is just a buncha people that mess around for fun. We're not serious about fighting. Nukes cannot be built.

5.We must win by either culture, space or diplomatic. Conquest and domination will still be allowed, but we can't win by them.

6. We want to get wine and incense. Furs are NOT allowed.

For a leader, I was originally thinking Hatshepsut, for Spiritual and Creative. However, since the SGOTM is playing with Hatty, I think we should shy away from her. So, we will be playing as...

Cyrus!

Dude, this guy was far out. He let the Jews chillax back to Israel, and was all around a cool guy. Plus, he's just looking perty cool 'n' into Eastern stuff.

I didn't want to play as Mr. Cheapo (Mansa Musa), or Asoka (organized doesn't seem to fit). I didn't really find anyone else appropriate (Gandhi too seemed too easy for a cultural vic) Plus, it doesn't seem as though the Persian is played ver' much.

The other specs:

Level: Monarch
Climate: Tropical
Sea Level: High
Map Type: Titled Axis, Random.
Size/Speed: Standard/Normal
Rivals: :D We'll see...

And I already have to correct myself:

The game number is RB 17 and the title is The Hippies

as a hippie in RL, i'm down for this :smoke:
have some of this stuff, man ~

The game number is RB 17 and the title is The Hippies
filthy, forgetful pothead!

Adv6 is cyrus, though (but i'm still game)

edit: Environ. almost seems like a "Must swap to" civic

edit2: also, maybe Pacifism is necessary too? I can see Pacifist hindus...hare hare..krishna krishna..hashi ravi

Hey I never said I was a hippie!

Pholk, you're in.

Rex, are you interested?

Yes, Those last five civics ARE mandatory. As for Cyrus being in Adv 6... whoops... I did mean to choose someone not very much involved in SG's.

that is fine ~ i feel the need to practice with him

I'm in if the start is after Adv 7. I'm still putting together "Tokugawa, human shield".

edit: by "after", I mean "after I'm done", not "after it's closed".

Zalson,

As leader, might I suggest Saladin: not oft played AND is Philo/Spiritual ~ try for a multi-religious, Great Priest thing and in late game, w/free religion and 5+ religions, everyone will be super happy with all those far-out ideas, man :smoke:

I was thinking of Saladin... but his favored civic IS theocracy... but who says we have to follow that.

Btw, by posting more than twice, Rex has enlisted in this SG :p

The Roster, playing as Smokin' Saladin.
