The Road or The Resistance

Your country has been invaded by a powerful foe. The enemy has captured the capital city, the government has fled and is leading the resistance in exile. Your city is in ruins and the enemy is in full control. Whatever able bodied people they encounter in their patrols are forced into slave labor clearing away rubble and serving them in other ways. Your family has fled to safety up in the mountains, youre on your own. While hiding from an enemy patrol in a cellar, you meet an officer in the Resistance and he offers you a place with he and his men, who are staying in the captured ruined city to harrass the occupying forces and strike at them in whatever ways present themselves. He's honest with you and tells if you stay and join them, all he can promise is hunger, cold, misery, the likelihood of a violent death, but at least you'll have a chance to strike against the enemy. Youre free to turn down the offer. You can hit the road and if youre lucky manage to hook up with your loved ones up in the mountains, where for a time you'll be safe before eventually having to flee again.

I'd definitely fight.

Taking into account, of course, the small chance that this man is an occupier looking to round up the resistance before it gets started.

depends on who is the occupier and the reasons behind. I would have fought the Nazi in France, the US in Vietnam, Israel in the West Bank, but not the US in Irak.

So your saying if your family and all the poeple you knew were run out of there homes......including you....and your city was destroyed.....and your country taken over.....its still a mayby?

WHerever I would be most useful. I don't kid myself; I don't think I would make too good of a soldier. If it makes more sense for me to become part of the diaspora that tries to work at things from the outside, then that is what I would do. If there was no-one left to fight (or no-one better than me!) then I would swallow hard and stay.

Yes sir. I'd fight if fighting is a solution. It is not necessarily the case every time. Fighting the American in Irak today is for example couterproductive. If they leave before stabilizing the country, Iraq would fall into a bloody civil war, it is almost the case already, but without the GI, it would be worse.
I am not saying that I would not fight out of anger if the occupying force happen to kill one of my kids even by accident. But I still think it is counter-productive

I'd fight.

As I said, probably yes in that case, but only out of anger, I still think it would be counter-productive as it will make things worse for the whole country
