Maxis has announced that it is working on a sequel to the best selling PC game in history, The Sims. The Sims 2 will feature much better graphics, improved animations (including facial animations), a genetics/DNA system that passes traits on from generation to generation, Sims aging through time, and a Life Score, among other things.

Looking at the screenshots, I can't wait for it to come out, and I'll almost certainly get it. What about you? What are your thoughts on this?

Well, I imagine that there's a slight possiblity that Maxis will include the features of the expansion packs (pets, downtown, etc.). However, that'd take up quite a few CD's, and Maxis is probably smart enough to realize that they would probably make more money if they make repeat expansions for The Sims 2.

YES! FINALLY! WOOHOO! YES! ALL RIGHT!

seeing as it seems it will just be better graphics i say pass. It'll be the same gameplay, which gets tiresome quickly, atleast for me, with suped up graphics.

Hopefully this time they will actually focus on the home environment and not get all askew with the damned expansion packs that killed the original Sims. Where was the home environment then? Only in the first two expansion packs. Then the next four were all profit-making expansions, out of the house, giving what players wanted instead of the original focus of the game.

I do find it interesting that the Sims will age and die, and that it's more genetic. I hope they will improve the installation and stuff like that with Sims2. It was horrendous to install the Sims and its expansion packs, took ages. And to transfer all the files I downloaded...it was like installing multiple modpacks for Civ3 (not a good experience)

God forbid.

Then what it would be is a huge recycled game with a few more features, instead of a completely new look and strategy and focus. I would never buy that kind of game - one that was mostly recycled.

Probably not. Although my sister would get it. I bought the first one, played it for a while, and now my sister plays it waaaaay more than I do.

Resist! You could try wasting your money on other things so that you cannot buy it...
